Pre-Algebra Period: _____ Systems of Equations

Directions Part 1: Solve five of the seven word problems below on a separate sheet of paper. You can use any method for solving the systems of linear equations (Graphing, Substitution, Elimination/Combinations). Show all four steps clearly and show all work for credit. Each problem is worth 5 points. 1. Mr. Cresci loves starburst jelly beans and harvest cheddar sun chips. At the store a bag of starburst jelly beans costs $3 and a bag of sun chips costs $4. In total Mr. Cresci spent $20 at the store on 6 items. How many bags of jelly beans and how many bags of sun chips did Mr. Cresci buy? 2. A test has 16 questions worth 100 points. The test consists of some True or False questions worth 5 points each and some Multiple Choice questions worth 10 points each. How many True or False questions and how many Multiple Choice questions are on the test? 3. Scottos pizzeria makes the best pizza in the world. At Scottos a plain slice of pizza costs 2 dollars and a slice of pepperoni pizza costs 3 dollars. Patrick walks into Scottos one day and buys $19 dollars worth of plain and pepperoni pizza. The sum of two numbers is 66 and the difference of the same two numbers is 32. What are the two numbers?

Directions Part 2: On a separate sheet of paper, create 2 systems of equations word problems completely on your own OR you can create 2 word problems that represent the following systems of equations: In total you are creating 2 systems of equations word problems. After creating your word problem, solve your word problem using one of our methods for solving systems of linear equations. Show all four steps clearly and show all work for credit. Each problem is worth 5 points.
