IEEE Sections Congress 2005 Report

By Jonathan Raines, Morocco Section Secretary
(jonraines@ieee.org) During the week of October 14-17, I had the pleasure to attend the IEEE Sections Congress 2005 conference. The IEEE hosts the Sections Congress every two years and invites every IEEE section in the world to come and participate in sharing new ideas to improve the IEEE sections. The 2005 conference was hosted in Tampa Bay Florida, which is a beautiful city located on the Gulf of Mexico where it is warm and sunny most of the year. We were also fortunate that Hurricane Wilma did not hit Tampa until a week after the conference. I was able to participate in meetings to prepare 2 proposals for the IEEE global office to focus on. The first proposal was to Increase membership value by giving one free society membership with increased benefits according to membership grade, volunteer contributions, and years of membership. IEEE: a New Way to Enhance Skills

By Chaker El Amrani, Communications Coordinator
(celamrani@ieee.org) S i n c e engineers belong to the greatest community in the world, and as they are responsible for almost everything that makes life worth living, in whatever place they are, they should get used to communicating ideas and issues with each other. Also they have to update their knowledge, get more technical expertise and be aware of the latest discoveries. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a global organization which offers international engineers and students a wide variety of theoretical and technical materials in electrical, electronics, communications, computer engineering, and computer science. The IEEE provides engineers with a large amount of information, documents, training and news related to many fields. Furthermore, the IEEE is based on a global network, which means that engineers from different countries could communicate and exchange ideas with each other. The IEEE Morocco Section is a

The winners will be awarded prizes which include certificates of recognition, issued by the IEEE Morocco Section, together with prizes offered by sponsoring universities and companies. More details and criteria of these competitions will be soon available at our website: http://ewh.ieee.org/r8/morocco/

IEEE MS Local Offices

IEEE Morocco Section has local offices representing it in various Moroccan universities. Their role is to promote IEEE within their faculties and schools, as well as within the local private companies and industries. These offices are meant to be the first point of contact for local professors, students and professionals to obtain information about the IEEE organization and the IEEE Morocco Section. The local offices should keep the local IEEE members informed about any matter of interest that is dispatched by the IEEE Morocco Section or by the IEEE organization. They should also coordinate and work very closely with IEEE MS to organize and plan activities at the national level. Indeed, local offices form a global IEEE morocco network as they bring together professors, students, researchers and professionals. The main aim of this structure is the creation of opportunities where people specializing in different fields and with different backgrounds can come together to share and exchange information, expertise and knowledge. Activities planned during the Morocco engineering week (19-25 February 2006) aim to serve this objective. We hope this IEEE structure will assist all our members in their work and make them even more productive, for the good of our universities and society. Please dont hesitate to contact your local office and help with your ideas and suggestions.
