Minjeong Joo (Mindy) ENG 333 Adv. Writing: Non-Fiction Professor Shannon Carter Feb. 01. 2014 Assignment 1 - Annotated Bibliography (Binnion Hall) The theme of my essay will be a Binnion Hall. Obviously you know the Binnion Hall if you are a student of Texas A&M University Commerce. The reason why I choose the Binnion Hall as my essay theme is that I think the Binnion Hall is an evidence of development of the city of Commerce, and E.T. After World War II, the Binnion Hall under constructed on 1947, and be an official building of math, continuing education and the counseling center. However, there are only few students know the Binnion Hall was a womans dormitory. Thorough the researching about the Binnion building, I am going to reveal the history of Binnion Hall and its role throughout the history of the school, and the Randolph B. Binnion who was the second president of the E.T. after the W.L. Mayos death. They tried to make the university have possibility of development. During the time goes passes, the Binnion Hall had many roles, and many changes., I think this essay could be an amazing story of the city of Commerce, Texas, and the Texas A&M University Commerce.

E. Reynolds. Donald, H. Conrad. James, Professor Mayos College: A History of East Texas State University, Years of Crisis: 1925-1946, The East Texas State University Press, Book, 1933, 1 Feb. 2014 (63p) This is a brief history about the college and the president Binnion but also Whitley, and shows what they worked for the college and students. Binnion Hall named after the Randolph B. Binnion who was the second president of East Texas Normal College. After the name was changed to East Texas State Teachers College in 1923 and East Texas State University in 1965, there were such a many developments on this University. Although very different in their personalities, the second president Randolph B.Binnion and Sam H. Whitley shared much in their philosophies of education and their goals for the university. Both strongly believed in Mayos conception of normalism that the ET existed primarily to train teachers, but it should founded on the context of a strong liberal arts foundation. Also both tried to create a pleasant and functional learning environment and challenge to the students to develop not only the character and mind and but also the fullest extent possible.

E. Reynolds. Donald, H. Conrad. James, Professor Mayos College: A History of East Texas State University, Evolution of a University: 1946-1966, The East Texas State University Press, Book, 1933, 1 Feb. 2014 (100, 106p) This is a background about the construction of the Binnion Hall. There are two old photos of the Binnion Hall. The one is the Binnion Hall under construction in 1947, and the other one is the construction completed one. By 1945 East Texas State Teachers College suffered from the rapid increasing the numbers of students after the WW2. A rapid demobilization poured thousands of young men back onto the nations college campuses. The numbers of students increased so rapidly that institutions of higher learning could hardly cope with them and so did the East Texas State Teachers College. The ETs student population grew of 500 percent at that time period. Binnion Hall was designed by George L. Dahl the Dallas architect, and cost almost one million dollars in the construction, and originally accommodated about 306 coeds. The Binnion Hall was a $850,000 womens dormitory, and had a beautiful lounge which located on the first floor was furnished to hold a large number of student groups. President Gee announced in his inaugural about the important facilities planned by his predecessors were already in the works. The president Gee threw himself into the task of completing these projects, and the Binnion Hall was one of the several new facilities ready for use in 1948.

E. Reynolds. Donald, H. Conrad. James, Professor Mayos College: A History of East Texas State University, Years of Challenge, Years of Promise: 1966-1989, The East Texas State University Press, Book, 1933, 1 Feb. 2014 (180-181p) This is about the renovation of the old dormitories. Maybe just as important as the new construction during the president McDowell years were the renovation projects. Because of the increasing numbers of faculty, adequate office space scarce for many. Renovation of old dormitories, specifically the May, Binnion, and the Henderson hall, went far to create more elbow room for cramped faculty members, and also, provided new homes for a number of academic and service departments. Such as, Mayo hall would host the AFROTC offices, and Binnion hall would house the Counseling center, Math, and Continuing Education, and Henderson hall would be the new home of Psychology and Student Health Services. However, paradoxically, even as the president McDowell worked to find office space for an overpopulated faculty, a growing number of empty classrooms became the most troublesome trend of the McDowell years, because of the shrinking student body.

She described the Binnion Hall in detail and her dorm room. It is going to be an amazing material to describe (or imagine) the feature of Binnion Hall at that time period.
