Dont let the joy of salvation and new life in Christ pass by without responding. Express thanks to God through your service. In response to your Vision 2020 input, service opportunities are being lifted up separately from financial stewardship. And now is the time to commit for service this fall. Eastminster provides over 120 different ways for you to move beyond yourself in service to Christ. Please inform us of one or two ways youd like to serve and well make sure you get connected. Here are a few samples of ways Eastminster members served this past year: --Prepared meals for people recovering from hospitalizations --Made & served lunch on first Tuesdays at Washington St. Soup Cellar --Extended hospitality by greeting at Sunday Services --Taught Sunday School and served as Youth Advisors --Washed the feet of people that are homeless --Delivered 144 dozen cookies to 18 fire and law enforcement stations --40 volunteers mentored 85 students in four schools --Love Bearers wrote 250 notes to congregation members Join in Gods work in the world. Pray about how you feel called to serve, then Help us help you match your talents with Gods will! You should have received a Service Commitment Form (formerly Time & Talent) in last weeks mail. Let us know your interests by either completing that Service Commitment from or by clicking on quicklinks at eastminsterpres.org and following the instructions. Christ is Risen!

WomenBuild with Habitat for Humanity- May 7

Central South Carolina Habitat is hosting a WomenBuild next month. Eastminster will partner with volunteers from SCANA and other community volunteers to work on the house. We have 15 spots to fill on Friday, May 9, and on Saturday, May 17; and 30 spots to fill on Saturday, June 7 and on Saturday, June 14. The site is located off 12th Street in West Columbia, at the intersection of Pine and Elizabeth Streets. Men and women BOTH are encouraged to participate! Contact Mark Rosenberg at 446-0003 for more information or sign up in the E-NEWS or on the website.

On Sunday, May 11, Presbyterian congregations in the five presbyteries in South Carolina will participate in a special offering benefiting Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC). The special offering is placed each year into a resident escrow fund at each of the resident campuses (Clinton, Lexington, Summerville, Florence, and Easley) and is used to help with monthly costs for those who have lived beyond their financial resources. Last year, PCSC celebrated 60 years of giving and provided over $1,100,000 in charitable care for seniors. Please use your separate pledge envelopes marked Presbyterian Communities or write this offering name on the memo line of your check. The Parents of Teens Sunday School class will welcome Patrick Cobb, communications and social media director for AARP South Carolina, on Sunday, May 18, to present Growing Pains: Teens, Parents and Social Media. The 10:10-11:00 a.m. presentation is open to all in the CE buildings Adult Reception Hall. Patrick is uniquely qualified to speak on how to communicate effectively with our children, as he can identify with both parents as older folks (he works for AARP) and our children (a parent of two teens himself). Whether its about Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, apps, you name it, he will come armed with his iPad and phone and help us better connect. A graduate of Appalachian State University and Airport High School, Patrick has more than 25 years of professional work experience in non-profit and community-based health, education and public policy organizations and is a long-time volunteer in Rich-Lex District 5 schools. At AARP, he manages social media platforms on Facebook and Twitter and uses each daily to engage and inform more than 13,000 followers.

Service Commitment (Formerly Time and Talent)

Each family should have received a letter from the church recently with their Service Commitment (SC) form enclosed. We encourage you to fill out the forms you received, or go to our web site and under Quick Links located on the front page, locate the online SC form and fill it out. Please return these forms to the church on Sunday, May 18, during services, or mail or drop them by. Let us respond to the Good News by giving of our time and talents. As the Apostle Paul wrote, This service you perform is not only supplying the needs of Gods people, but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.... (2 Corinthians 9).
