Teacher Preparation Teacher needs to have a station per community helper set up, with the picture and the information to that helper.
E. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards H3.1.3 Identify and describe occupations in the community that help people, i.e., police officers, fire fighters, and nurses. Student-Friendly Standards

H3.1.3 I can know what people do for work in the community that help people. For example: police officers, fire fighters, and nurses.

F. Vocabulary Police officer: a person who protects the people. Fire fighters: A person who fights fires. Nurses: someone who is licensed to tend to people who are sick. Doctor: someone who is licensed to practice medicine.

He/she will go to a station and give one example. 3. SW be grouped into five groups and be assigned to a station. 4. TW go around the room and observe and guide the students. SW will gather together in their groups at the desks. SW come up as a group and share what they learned about the helper they worked together on. TW ask students if any of them had the experience of any of these helpers helping them, and if they dont mind sharing to share with us. Make sure they understand that they dont have to share if they dont want to!

Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

The students will turn in the paper they wrote the information on. This will tell the teacher if they understood what the helpers do for the community.
Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.

The students will have written down what the helper does and how it helps the community.
H. Closure: I. Students will share their findings with the class.

Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? The modeling of what is expected of the students. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? Making sure the students are doing what they are supposed to be doing at their stations. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? The students will be learning how they can be part of the community by helping out at their school. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? Get a copy of each groups helper, give to those students and then have them look at the information at the stations for them to take notes or to refer to the information and notes. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I cant think of anything that I would change in the lesson. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? I didnt really have trouble with writing this plan.

*Note: These are actual fallon community helpers.
