RE: Service Learning Project Proposal for Comunidades Unidas (Communities United)
OVERVIEW
I would like to propose for this service learning project to inform the Latino community about HIV. The program Ponte el Sombrero gives out a free condoms and information cards. These cards are not too catchy for the Latin audience. We would not only be informing ourselves about the subject so we can also be aware and learn how to speak about STDS, but also creating a card that does catch the readers attention. The program has not succeed as wanted by the organization, they are lacking on taking of the taboo in the Latin population. Too many people are ignorant about the subject, and it is important to reduce this ignorance. This will help us because the project will require us to: use our business communication skills interact with a different community group gain experience with the promotion of a Non-Profit Help other individuals to learn and research

RATIONALE
This project is going to benefit us as we develop a better response from our target audience because we will: use our skills of speaking, writing, listening and critical thinking. interact with volunteer coordinator, director, coordinator in charge of the HIV program get to know what the Latin community thinks Networking with a non-profit organization in Salt Lake City

As business communicators we can make a difference by helping our minority groups. Since the United States is a multicultural country, in order to succeed in business, we have to know how to treat different cultures and learn how to approach them and helping others gain the knowledge to prevent and get tested for any kind of diseases is also helping ourselves.

PLAN/TIME FRAME
Methodologies For us in order to accomplish the goal of obtaining the attention of the Latino community, we will be meeting with the organization and as a group about how we can target this minority with our business communication skills. Also, as I have mentioned before, we need to be respectful about the subject, get more informed so we do not make false predictions and make somebody uncomfortable with the subject. Time Frame Week 1 Weeks 2-3 Set up an appointment with the coordinator at the CU, and ask questions on how they want us to help promote this programs Research online more about the subject, and ask questions to the Hispanic population about their comfort zone, so we are aware about their reaction is when we try to promote the Sombrero and also how we can make it more comfortable for them to open up to listen about the theme. Start making up the new poster and information cards to make them more appealing for the community. First of all complete a progress report, group report, finish up the poster and cards, presentation to the class and CU, and give them our findings and what have we learn throughout this service learning project.

Weeks 4-5 Week 6

PERSONNEL
To accomplish the goal of promoting HIV, I need three to four people with the desire to inform themselves and also the Hispanic community, those also are willing to take off the taboo about STDS and wanting to make them less ignorant.
