1. Product Overview
Manufactured by the latest and advanced technology, DAV311 is undoubtedly the best choice of portable audio/video player for those who pursue fantastic audio/visual enjoyment. DAV311 is the next-generation digital audio/video player, which plays audio CDs, video CDs, as well as the latest MP3 CDs. In contrast to other portable CD players, DAV311 is relatively lightweight and is much convenient to be carried anywhere you want to go. In addition, its solid-state design makes it impervious to the skipping and jitter experienced during heavy exercise or while being jostled. Even after repeated playbacks, there is no degradation of the sound quality. The track number and time count of each audio track will be displayed on the liquid crystal display (LCD) of the player for your convenience. What is MP3? MP3 stands for MPEG layer 3 (Motion Picture Experts Group), an audio file made by using audio data compression technology. The MP3 audio format allows you to enjoy high quality music playback from files that are a fraction of the size of a normal CD audio file. MP3 files can be 1/4 to 1/20 the size of a commercial CD audio file-yet retain a high sound quality. MP3 files usually have the extension .mp3, and can be downloaded from the Internet, or can be legally made for personal use from your favorite CDs that you purchased. As Internet is getting dominant in the world of information technology nowadays, the usage of MP3 has been broadened and become much popular. In this case, the DAV311 MP3/VIDEO CD portable player is designed to meet the demand of the trend, and plays as the pioneer in the digital audio/video world of next-generation.

2. Advanced Playback Functionality


Compatible: In addition to playing the new MP3 CD, DAV311 is capable of playing other type of disc including VCD and CDDA; and it is absolutely VCD 1.0, 2.0 compliant.

3. Power Operation Instructions


NAPA DAV311 comes with a DC transformer in the package (as shown below). Plug the power cord into an A/C socket, and the other end into the DC input jack of the player.

Attention: The DC transformer accompanies with the package is given according to the local voltage supply of different areas. Please verify carefully if the DC transformer in the package meets the requirement of your local area. Exchange it from your dealer if it is not the correct one. 1, The player operates by 2 sources of power supply: DC power supply connector, or, 2 x 2A Ni-MH battery. Using DC Power Supply Connector: First of all, properly connect DAV311 with the DC power supply connector provided with the package. Press PLAY to start operating DAV311. To turn off the power, simply press STOP. Each time when finished using DAV311, it is suggested to disconnect the player with the DC power supply connector.

Using 2 x 2A Ni-MH Battery: Whenever DAV311 is not connecting with the DC power supply connector, the Ni-MH battery will start to operate automatically. Press PLAY to start operating DAV311. To turn off the power, simply press STOP. However, for first time using DAV311, the battery has to be charged for at least 15 hours. 2. Battery Charge First of all, properly connect DAV311 with the DC power supply connector provided with the package. DAV311 will then detect the level of power of the Ni-MH battery. In case if the power level is detected as lower than the standard, the battery will be charged automatically. Once the charging starts, the LED on DAV311 (little dot beside the LCD) will be on to indicate the charging is in

progress. Please be advised that even when the charging is completed, the LED will still be on. However, you are advised to turn the player off while the charging is still in progress, as this will shorten the overall charging time of the battery. Also, in order to avoid any possible damage caused to both the player and battery, you are recommended not to charge the battery for more than 20 hours at any time. 3, Battery Charge Indicator Power on the player, and observe the battery charge indicator displays at the top right corner of the LCD, where users can observe current battery status of their players. All black indicates fully charged battery. Important: To avoid any unexpected damage caused, disconnect the player with the DC power connector when it will not be used for a long period of time.

4. Using DAV311
ATTENTION For DAV311 to operate properly, please be sure the power supply input to the player meets its specified requirement. The player may become faulty if the electric current input exceeds the level of which the player is configured to tolerate. On the contrary, the player may experience difficulty in operating when the level of electric current input is lower than its specified requirement. PLAY 1, Power on the player by connecting with the DC power supply connector, or using the Ni-MH battery. 2, Open the deck by pressing down the OPEN button on the top of the player. Load the player with a disc. Be sure the side labeled should face on top. 3, Close the deck. Press PLAY to power on DAV311. The player will auto-scan the data on the disc, and display the total number of tracks on the LCD. The playback will start automatically from the first track. 4, While playing, press PLAY/PAUSE once to pause, and press again to release and keep on playing.

5, To stop playing, press STOP once. SELECTIVE PLAYBACK MODE 1, Press down SKIP NEXT or PREV to move forward or backward along the tracks to select the one you want to play. For instance, if the 8th track is the one you want to listen, just keep on pressing SKIP NEXT or PREV until you see track 8 is displayed on the LCD display. Then it will start playing automatically after a few seconds. 2, Alternatively, you can do it via the remote controller. Simply by pressing the numeric keys, for example, press 8 if the 8th track is the one you desire to listen. 3, When the selected track is the 10th or above, please follow these instructions: Press 10/0 on the remote controller (press 10/0 to select the track of 2-digit or single digit), and SELE -- -- will display on TV at the same time. Key in your selection by pressing numeric keys 1 to 9. If the 21st track is the one you want to listen, press 10/0 once, then 2, 1 to complete your selection. Press 10/0 once to key in track number of 2-digit. You will be able to see SELE -- -- displayed on TV.

FAST TRACKING While playing audio CD, hold down SKIP NEXT or PREV on the player or remote control to move forward or backward along the current track, right until the portion you want to listen, release hold to let the playback keeps on. However, for MP3 playback, when the current track starts playing for the first 5 seconds, hold down SKIP NEXT or PREV will cause the current track to skip forward or backward. The fast tracking function for MP3 disc becomes activated after the playback has started for over 5 seconds. SOUND MODE Different mode of sound output is available for selecting (it can be done by pressing the Sound Mode control R/L on the remote controller): When R/L is not pressed, sound mode - Stereo L/R is selected. Press R/L once, sound mode - Left L/L is selected. Press R/L twice, sound mode - Right R/R is selected. Press R/L again, stereo mode L/R is restored.

Attention: Sound Mode control R/L key is not available when playing MP3 and CD-DA disc. PLAYBACK CONTROL (PBC) If the disc playing is VCD 2.0 compliant, without pressing any button, the playback will start automatically after a while. For disc of VCD 2.0 compliant, press PBC once will then exit to the screen of program menu. LCD DISPLAY INDICATOR DAV311 MP3/Video CD portable player is equipped with a standard LCD display panel. Its outstanding LCD display function provides great convenience to users whenever they want to know about the playback status. Place disc to the player. It then starts to detect the type of disc; whether it is MP3, VCD or CD, and display the information at the left side of LCD. will be displayed on the LCD. And when While playback starts, the playback stops, the sign will be displayed. Once playback starts, users can observe at the right side of the LCD about the current playback status, like track number, and the elapsed time, etc. When the ESP function is turned on, you can see ESP ON is displayed at the top right corner of the LCD. When you have selected REPT 1, i.e. repeat the current track, the sign will be displayed at the left top corner of the LCD. When you have selected REPT ALL, i.e. repeat all the tracks, the sign will be displayed.

MODE CONTROL When pressing the MODE key repeatedly, it scrolls the main-menu as follows: Normal RPT [r] PGM [P] BAS [b] ESP [E] Normal

Mode Selection: There are 4 types of mode available. For each specific mode, press NEXT to switch to the next option available.

1, REPEAT (r) Press MODE once to activate REPEAT function. Press NEXT once, REPT ONE, to repeat the current track. Press NEXT twice, REPT ALL, to repeat all the tracks. Press NEXT the third time, RANDOM, to playback all the tracks at random. Press NEXT again, REPT OFF, to restore normal playback. 2, PROGRAMMABLE PLAYBACK (P) Press MODE twice to enter to the function of programmable playback. This feature is available to both MP3 disc and audio CD. However, please be advised that such feature cannot be activated when DAV 311 is operating with MP3 disc. Any operation has to be ceased completely before accessing the feature. PGM is shown at the bottom and on the left of the LCD. You will also see PGM MODE displays at the top right corner of the screen if the player is connected with TV. The program function is described as follows: A, Press MODE key until PGM mode (display P01 and PGM icon) B, Press PREV and NEXT to desired track number C, Press MODE to enter the selected track numbers (display P02 and PGM icon) D, Repeat step B and C until program memory full (LCD will display P03P30 accordingly) E, Press PLAY to start playing the programmed sequences (PGM icon) F, While the programmed sequence is playing, all function keys operate as usual except STOP and MODE G, MODE key only has operation of bass (BAS) and anti-shock (ESP) H, Press STOP to stop playing and clear the program sequences and returns to normal mode 3, BASS CONTROL (b) Press MODE for the third time to operate the bass control. This is to enhance the bass output level when playing MP3, audio CD and VCD. There are 3 levels of bass level available (b0, b1, b2). Press NEXT to switch to the next bass level available. BAS: b0 b1 b2

You will see BAS MODE displays at the top right corner of the screen if the player is connected with TV.

4, ESP (Electronic Skip Protection) On/Off (E) When ESP function is turned on, you can see ESP ON is displayed at the top right corner of the LCD. The ESP function for MP3 is automatically activated whenever the player is used for playing MP3 disc. However, the ESP function for CD-DA is activated as the following sequence: ESP: on off on (CD-DA only)

5, OFF Normal mode restored. If the player is connected with TV, you can observe the entire operation on the screen. HOLD CONTROL

Push the HOLD switch to lock the keys on the player. This locks the current function in place and prevents the buttons on the player from operating due to inadvertent contact.

30 control 30 Use the remote within 7 meters from the REMOTE SENSOR, about 60 degree when facing the player. Operating distance may vary according to different intensity of light in the room.
Attention Do not expose the REMOTE SENSOR under strong intensity of light. Do not allow any obstacle to be placed in-between the remote control and the REMOTE SENSOR. Do not use the remote control, together with other remote controller from other source to operate the player at the same time.

6. Connect DAV311 to Other Devices


Power on DAV311 player by connecting with the DC power supply connector or using the Ni-MH battery. How to connect DAV311 to your audio system and TV set? 1, Connect DAV311 player to the TV set by using a video cable. One end with 3.5 MONO PLUG has to plug into the video-out jack of the player. Then plug the other end with RCA PLUG into the video-in (AV) jack of the TV set.

2, The DAV311 player can be connected to the amplifiers by using an audio cable. One end with 3.5 STEREO PLUG has to plug into the audio-out jack of the player. Then plug the other end with RCA PLUG (X 2) into the audio-in jack of the amplifiers, according to the left (L) and right (R) side.

7. Understanding DAV311 Playback Functionality


The following example is illustrated by using MP3 disc. DAV311 can output video signal when it is properly connected with the DC power supply connector.

Preparation: 1. After connecting with cables, switch on the TV. 2. If audio system is connecting at the same time, be sure they are power on. 3. Switch on the power of DAV311.

At this moment, a still picture with NAPA logo will be shown on the TV.

1, Power on the DAV311 MP3/VIDEO CD player. 2, Press down the OPEN button to open the deck. 3, Place disc to the player, pay attention to the labeled side is to face on top. 4, Close the deck, the player will auto-detect the type of disc inserted (whether it is MP3, VCD or CDDA, and start the playback from the first track). 5, Track Selection To select the track(s) you want to play, press SKIP NEXT or PREV on the player, or press the numeric keys on the remote controller. The entire operating process will be displayed on the LCD of the player. Attention: For MP3 playback, if the player is connected with the TV, you will see, on the screen, the file name of the tracks being listed as the order they are organized originally on the disc.

When playing MP3 disc, you may select your favorite tracks to play by: Move forward or backward along the tracks of the disc. Enter the track number(s) by using the remote controller. After the selection is made, the current track played (if any) will stop, and the selected track(s) will start playing by pressing PLAY. 6, Press PLAY/PAUSE on the player or PAUSE on the remote controller to pause playing. Press PLAY to release and continue. 7, Press STOP on the player or remote controller to stop playing. Remark: While playing MP3 disc, press STOP once, the total number of tracks of the disc will be shown on the LCD. However, for audio CD and VCD, press STOP will return to the opening picture (NAPA logo), which will be shown on TV. 8, Volume Control (25 levels available) Press VOL- to decrease the sound volume. Press VOL+ to increase the sound volume. 9, MUTE CONTROL Press MUTE to eliminate the sound output completely. Press again to cancel the MUTE function.

1, DIGEST (9-Screen) While playing VCD, press DIGEST on the remote controller and the screen on TV will be segmented into 9 individual screens. Each screen represents a portion of the program showing at different time interval. For karaoke VCD, there will be 9 different song titles showing on 9 individual screen. To select the portion of program you want to watch, press the NUM keys on the remote controller according to the number shown on each segmented screen, then press PLAY to start. 2, Tone Control (b- -#) Press b to decrease the tone. 8 levels to decrease. Press # to increase the tone. 8 levels to increase. Press to restore the original, standard tone. 3, OSD Function Press OSD on the remote controller, a message TRK TIME XX--XX:XX will be shown on the TV, represents the time count of playing the current track. Press twice, a message TRK REMN XX--XX:XX will be shown, represents the time remaining of playing the current track. Press by the third time, a message DSC TIME XX--XX:XX is shown, represents the time count of playing the current disc. Press by the fourth time, a message DSC REMN XX--XX:XX is shown, represents the time remaining of playing the current disc. Press again to cancel the OSD function. 4, TIME The TIME function allows you to perform fast tracking of the current movie. Press TIME once, you will see, GOTO -- -- : -- -which allows you to key in the time interval of the movie that you wish to watch. After you enter the digit, you will see GOTO PLAY xx : xx on the screen, and the playback will be started at the time interval being entered. 5, STEP Control While watching VCD, press STEP repeatedly on remote controller to view the playback moving one-step ahead. To cancel the STEP function, press PLAY/PAUSE once.

6, SLOW (Slow Motion) Press SLOW once to activate SLOW 1/2 slow motion playback. Press SLOW twice to activate SLOW 1/4 slow motion playback. Press SLOW by the third time to activate SLOW 1/8 slow motion playback. Press SLOW again to restore normal playback NRM PLAY. 7, PBC (Playback Control) When watching VCD, press PBC once will restart the playback from the beginning or the first track of the disc. 8, TV System (P/N) Press P/N on the remote controller, the colour mode output will become NTSC. Press again, the colour mode output will change to PAL. This function is used to unify the colour mode output of the player with the TVs, so as to enhance the output of audio and visual effect. 9, Sound Mode (R/L) Press R/L Press once, only sound on the left channel of the disc will be output (L/L). Press twice, only sound on the right channel of the disc will be output (R/R). Press again, stereo mode is activated. Stereo mode (default setting) When the player is using for karaoke, this function can be used to switch off the analog mode, or to switch in-between 2 languages when watching VCD. 8. HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS
Moist Due to sudden change of outdoor temperature and humidity, any component of the player which in contact with warm air Moist form within the player may cause moist to form. In this case, the player may not be able to function properly. To cure the problem, place the player under room temperature until it is able to function again. According to different conditions, the process may last for one hour or more. In case if the disc in the player is affected by moist as well, use a soft cloth to rub the disc. Starting from the centre, then move outward. Laser Disc Never use cracked or bend laser disc.

Laser disc operates at high speed in the player. Cracked or bend disc may cause damage to the player. Also, please do not try to repair the damaged disc by using sources like sticky tape or glue. If any strange noise or vibration occurred, press STOP immediately to cease the operation. Storage Instructions Take out any unwanted disc from the player after use. Keep disc away from places with sunlight, high temperature & humidity. Do not put label sticker on the disc. Avoid scratching the surface of the disc.

Maintenance To remove dirt on surface of the disc, always use a soft cloth wet with water. Be sure the disc is dry before put into the player again. When wiping the disc, start from the centre and move outward along the boundary. Never use benzene, diluting fluid, disc cleanser, or anti-static solution.

Safety Instructions Hold firmly whenever plug-in or pull-out the DC plug from the socket. The DC power cord should keep a distance from electric heater. Never place any heavy objects above the DC power cord. Do not attempt to repair or re-construct the DC power cord.

Avoid direct contact with any type of liquid. In case of accident, disconnect the DC power cord from the socket. External electric sources like electrostatic discharge can cause negative effect on normal operation of the player. Under such circumstance, power off the player, or disconnect the power cord. Wait for a while, plug into the socket again and the player recovers and operates properly again. DAV311 Maintenance 1, Power off the player, and remove the disc after use. 2, If the player will not be used for a long time, disconnect the DC power cord from the player. Open the deck regularly to maintain a good condition for the internal components of the player. 3, Others: Keep the player away from insecticide or volatile substance. Avoid the player to contact with rubber or nylon substance constantly. Do not store the player at or near the following places: 1, Strong sunlight 2, Steam or soot 3, Extreme temperature 4, Electric heating devices 5, Strong magnetic fields Attention: When DAV311 operates by using the DC power, the charging of Ni-MH battery will also be activated if it is not completely charged yet. This extra workload may cause the player to generate heat that is relatively higher in temperature. However, please be advised that such phenomenon should be considered as normal and users should not, under any circumstance, attempt to cool down the player by any mean.

9. TROUBLESHOOTING
The following information may be useful should you encounter the situations listed below:
* The player does not operate Check if the power is switched on. Check if there is any disc in the player. Check if the disc is loaded at the wrong side Check if the disc is damaged or unclean. Check if moist is formed within the player. If so, remove the disc and power on the player for about an hour or so. * Sound output is absent Check if connection is done properly. Check if audio system is switched on. Check if volume control is set to appropriate level. Check if the disc is damaged or unclean * No sound effect * No picture Use audio system with stereo mode Check if the TV is switched to video mode Check if connection is done properly * Picture keeps jumping, instable * Bad quality pictures * Disc stops at particular track, pause constantly or keep on repeating the same track Select the correct TV system signal (NTSC/PAL) Check if the disc is dirty, damaged or bend. Check if repeat mode is selected Check if the disc is dirty, damaged or bend If so, FAST FORWARD to skip current track

CAUTION: When DAV311 is operating by DC power, in case if the power of battery nearly runs out or completely exhausted, certain abnormal phenomenon may occur to normal operation of the player.
