Overview
Feature Introduction
The intelligent TRX shutdown indicates that when the traffic of a cell is lowered to a certain degree, partial carriers should be shutdown to save the power and cost. If a cell is configured with multiple carrier boards, when the non-BCCH carrier has no traffic in the low traffic period, the intelligent TRX shutdown technology can be used to save partial power consumption of baseband as well as the PA static power consumption, thus saving the energy. When the traffic in the cell raises, the power supply of non-BCCH carrier will be triggered automatically.
2.2
Technical Description
The basic principle of the intelligent TRX shutdown is: when the BTS traffic decreases, the BTS can shut down some TRX without load through the software automatic control to save the power consumption. The transceiver module is the important module of BTS, also the important role of power consumption in the BTS. By shutting down the transceiver module without users temporarily, the intelligent TRX shutdown can reduce the unnecessary power consumption greatly, and enhance the resource utilization effectively. Under the condition that the network QoS is ensured, the ZTE intelligent TRX shutdown can reduce the power consumption effectively in non-peakhour period, especially for the period when the access users are relatively less at night. Specific implementation scheme: 1 Parameter switch control: set the parameters in the network management to determine whether to Switch on the iBSC intelligent TRX shutdown function. Period control: set the period when the intelligent TRX shutdown can be activated to allow the cell to enable the function in a certain period, so as to disable the function in the peak hours of traffic. Traffic threshold: you can set two thresholds for traffic: high and low thresholds. In the period when the function is enabled, the cell traffic is calculated in a certain period (usually you can set 5 minutes), and the function is activated when the traffic volume is lower than the threshold; the function is stopped when the traffic volume is higher than the threshold; the protective section between the high threshold and low threshold is required to avoid the frequent startups and interruptions of the function. TRX shutdown priority: before executing the intelligent TRX shutdown, BSC will select the TRX with lowest priority to power down. New call requests will not be allocated to this TRX. If TRXs with high priority have enough idle timeslots, the traffic can be handed over to these TRXs by the intra-cell handover method. Traffic timeslot combination: when the carrier that is to be powered down still has traffic, the traffic will be informed to hand over to another carrier with high-priority. Carrier emergency power-up: the carrier emergency power-up will be performed in the following conditions: the traffic channel in a cell is not enough for service; the BSC intelligent power-down function is forbidden; the cell carrier intelligent powerdown function is forbidden in current period. Carrier shutdown condition reporting: support the carrier shutdown condition reporting, including reporting time, total times of carrier shutdown (every 15 minutes), and total duration of carrier shutdown (every 15 minutes).
When the selected TRX has no traffic, the power-down operation should be performed. The electric switch is used to shut down the carrier power. At this time, the power consumption of the whole TRX is reduced to 0.
Carrier Power-down and Voice Channel Retention The power-down status of the carrier should be sent by BSC to BTS, and BTS enables or disables the carrier as required. Because there may be calls in conversation when the carrier is specified to power down, the intra-cell handover could be performed under the condition that the QoS is not affected, and the call could be handed over to another carrier, or the traffic can be retained, and the carrier power-down operation could be performed until the call is finished. Consistency and reliability guarantee The consistency of power-down and power-up statuses between the BTS and BSC is guaranteed by the BTS periodical report of power-up and power-down statuses. The BSC compares the statuses with each other when it receives the status report from BTS, thus controlling the consistency of power-down and power-up statuses between the BSC and BTS.
