Atlantic Treatment Organisation MUNECC 2014 Topic A) Integration of cyber protection to the NATO defense planning process. The UK is a sovereign state located off the north-western coast of continental Europe. The UK's form of government is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system, and its capital city is London. The current British monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, with David Cameron as Prime Minister. The United Kingdom consists of four countries:England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom is a developed country and has the world's sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and eighth-largest by purchasing power parity, It is a recognised nuclear weapons state and its military expenditure ranks fourth in the world. The UK has been a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council since its first session in 1946. It has been a member of the European Union (EU) and its predecessor the European Economic Community (EEC) since 1973; it is also a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Council of Europe, the G7, the G8, theG20, NATO. Against the background of increasing dependence on technology and web-based communications, NATO is advancing its efforts to confront the wide range of cyber threats targeting the Alliances networks on a daily basis. NATOs Strategic Concept and the 2012 Chicago Summit Declaration recognised that the growing sophistication of cyber attacks makes the protection of the Alliances information and communications systems an urgent task for NATO. The UKs Cyber Security Strategy, published in November 2011, set out the governments vision of a vibrant, resilient and secure cyberspace, providing a framework to guide our actions to enhance prosperity, national security and a strong society. To support the Strategy we put in place a National Cyber Security Programme (NCSP) backed by 650 million of funding to 2015. This year we increased that investment with a further 210 million in 2015 to 2016. This funding will build on existing projects and also support new investment, enabling the UK to retain its emerging reputation as a leader in the field of cyber security. The strategy set out 4 clear objectives: making the UK one of the most secure places in the world to do business in cyberspace making the UK more resilient to cyber attack and better able to protect our interests in cyberspace helping shape an open, vibrant and stable cyberspace that supports open societies building the UKs cyber security knowledge, skills and capability

These objectives continue to drive our work and are as relevant today as they were in 2011 even in the face of a rapidly changing technological and threat landscape. In this report, I will highlight significant areas of progress, new announcements and our forward plans.
