Levi Scherschel Rachel Reynolds English 106 April 29, 2014 Reflection I can remember going to meet up with

my advisor to sign up for my classes. I decided to begin my journey to become an engineer so I wanted to sign up for classes that would put me on the right track to CODO into the engineering program. My classes for the spring of 2014 consisted of Chemistry 115, Econ 251, Math 161, and English 106. My English class didnt worry me much because I had taken AP Composition in high school and I was pretty good at writing. The other classes, I knew, would pose to be a real problem. Around this same time, Id realized that writing in my leisure time was a very good stress reliever for me. I knew that English 106 was the class thats going to help me keep my sanity. The first project was the Literacy Narrative and that one ended up being one of my favorites. I knew I wanted to write about my AP Comp teacher, Mr. Kupersmith, because he had helped me so much with understanding what it takes to read and write with more than just black and white information. It was easy to write this paper because I like writing with vivid detail and painting a picture for my audience through words. I was able to hold my head up high as I turned in this project and my grade for it showed too. The Audio Essay was a lot more challenging for me. All throughout high school, I never really had any use to learn how to use more advanced programs. I could use Microsoft word and

Microsoft Excel but that was about the extent of my computer skills. Using a program like Audacity was very challenging and frustrating at first and I knew it would take a lot of practice before I was somewhat comfortable with using it. But Im glad I got to mess around with it because it could be something I use later on in my college career. Next was my Ethnographic Essay. This was another one of my favorite assignments. I feel like I always write about my cross country team but those guys turned out to make a big impact on my life and I really like bragging about how much fun we had and all the accomplishments wed made. Its always so easy for me to write about my high school cross country team because it seems like my fingers never stop typing. I always have so much to say about my team and it made this assignment a lot easier. My last project was the Article Analysis. It took me a little longer to figure out what I was going to write about since the paper was supposed to be about your major and I was still somewhat undecided. In the end, I decided to write about a major I had considered for a little while, which was Education. I found an article on a new teaching technique (mostly for children with mental and behavior disorders) called The Good Behavior Game. Some of the techniques in the article didnt seem to make sense to me and I wanted to challenge the authors theory. Now that the semester is over, I feel like English 106 was very helpful to me. It helped me to relieve some of the stress associated with taking so many difficult classes. I really enjoyed the classroom discussions and I feel like the conferences with Ms. Reynolds were very helpful. Its going to be a lot different without having English 106 next year to help take the edge off of the stressful classes.
