REPORT WRITING A GUIDE TO
ORGANISATION AND STYLE
1. WRITING REPORT
Organisation
To inform the reader
Helpful both to reader and the writer
The title
First contact the report
Using ordinary English grammar
The summary or abstract
Give a brief overview of the whole
report.
The list of contents
Help reader find specific information
The introduction
To set the scene what to expect from
the report.
The main body of the report
Present the material in two sections
- Methods and materials
- Findings (where you present your
evidence)
The conclusions
- Should arise naturally
- Give opinion
- Should include any new information
The recommendations
- Out as brief statements.
The appendix
- Peripheral matter which overload
your main argument.

2. STYLE

Be brief ( use no more
words, be particularly
wary of section you are
proud of
Be clear
- Take came to use

precise meaning you
intend to convey.
- In subjects that
already have
compound nouns
- Do not invent words
Be human
- Easier to read
- Readers feel a
human being has
