Student Council elections are fast approaching
The Speed School Student Council office is

State budget cuts to reduce money for universities

Kentucky is in financial trou-
ble. An unbalanced budget requires
something to be done in order make
up the difference.
Kentucky Governor Beshear,
who assumed office on December
11, 2007, is unwilling to raise taxes
in order to make up the deficit. As
a result, there are plans to cut

Speed School Student Council is
a very important student driven or-
ganization at Speed School. The
annual election for directors is ap-
proaching. By regulation the elec-
tions are completed before E-Expo.
Typically, elections take several
meetings to complete. As a result,
several meetings are scheduled for
the actual election process. Nomina-
tions for positions will be held dur-
ing the January 31 and February 7
council meetings. Elections will
begin the following meeting, Febru-
ary 14, and will last until completed
for each weekly meeting..
Those interested in running for a

reduce universities’ state

President, Director of Administra-
tion, Director of Cooperate and
Alumni Relations, Director of Fi-
nance, Director of Public Relations,
Director of Society Relations, Direc-
tor of Student Activities, and Direc-
tor of Student Affairs. To run for
President, all three co-ops must be
completed and to run for Vice Presi-
dent, two co-ops must be completed.
Only elected members of Speed
School Student Council can vote in
the elections. Those members are
elected by the entire student body of
Speed School.
Due to the decrease
in funding, tuition for
many students who attend
public universities across
the state will most likely
increase. With the imme-
diate 3% decrease in fund-
ing, many universities, in-
cluding the University of
Louisville, are working
quickly to make up for the
lost income.
