Independent Technology Project

Ashley Jordan

For this project, I chose to make two examples and one activity that my students will be
able to do using the tool Kidspiration. I chose to just stick to Kidspiration instead of both
Kidspiration and Inspiration because I found that Kidspiration is more user friendly for a first
grade class. In order, for my students to create the two picture view documents in Kidspiration I
will have to first go over the basics of what physical properties are present in solids and liquids.
Once the content is covered I will then have each one of my students get their own laptop to
work on making these two documents in picture view. They will be instructed to first go to
tutorial on how to make a document in the picture view of Kidspiration which can be found at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uctGaeJT5Uo. I used the Fundamental environmental
molecular science of liquids and nanoparticles, What are the characteristic properties of solids,
liquids and gases, Solid Basic, What are Physical Properties and Changes articles for the
information I included in my examples and activity. I will then give my students my two
examples of the picture view documents I created; they will make one document for solids and
one document for liquids. Then, I will have my students go into Kidspiration and have them
create their own documents for solids and liquids. If any questions arise, I will answer them and
help the students that are struggling. As a reference, the students will be able to review the
tutorial as many times as they need to. Once the students are done with the solids document they
will be instructed to save and print out a copy of the document with their names on it; the same
will be done once they finish their liquids document.
For the third activity, I will personally have to have more involvement into helping my
students do the activity Alike and Different in Kidspiration. I will have to make sure that I save
my activity of Alike and Different using solids and liquids into an activity wizard. The students
will then be able to pull up the exact activity that I created for them to complete. I will instructor
them on how to pull up my activity on their own laptops. The Alike and Different Activity has
instructions on the left hand side of the activity that the students will be expected to follow. Once
the students are done with the activity they will be told to print off their completed activity with
their names on it. The two picture view documents and the Alike and Different activity will all
be turned in to me so I can review each students understanding and suggest any changes that they
can make to their documents and activity. If needed the students will be given time to go back in
and correct their mistakes because the documents and activity will be used later in the lesson or
as a reference guide.
