DESTINATION RIO
My name is Kimberly Lyles, and I am here to talk to you about Destination Rio. Destination
Rio is a about the woman who desires a getaway to an exciting, relaxing place where she can discover
not just the beauty of the people and the place, but also can discover herself. In 2016, the Summer
Olympic Games will be held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This will be the first Olympic Games held
in South America. All eyes of the world will be on Rio. In years past, such as the London Games, the
host city has inspired fashion, and with Rio, there will be no exception.
Rio is known for a relaxed, laid back, party atmosphere. The people are colorful and sensual.
This is a desire of all women. Living such busy lives, who doesnt want to escape to a place like Rio?
From Hot Days to Steamy Nights, its Always a Party in Rio. This story I will share with you gives you a
look into the feeling of this woman.
She walks off the streetcar and wonders what the day will bring. This
confident woman has come to Rio to explore the sites, sample the local food and
drink, and dance the night away. Mostly, she has come here to find herself.
Her morning is spent walking the shoreline at Imponema. She takes a deep
breath. The wind in her hair, the sound of the ocean, and the smell of the sea all
relax her mind into a state of bliss. It is intoxicating.
In the afternoon she takes a walk through the city. Shes amazed by the
colors of Rio. Everything is vibrant, alive! The buildings are a rainbow of colors.
Many of them showcase very exciting graffiti art. She wonders in to a local caf
and starts to fall in love with the people. They are friendly and beautiful.
When day turns to night, the city really awakens. She is at Carnivl! As
the people dance in the streets, she starts to feel the rhythm of the Samba Drums

in her soul. She cant help but join in the dancing, the singing, and the
celebration! The music takes her away. She has not a care in the world.
When she returns to her beachfront resort, she can easily fall asleep for she
has found true joy this day.

The colors that have been chosen are taken from the colors of nature in Rio. The brilliant
vibrant sunsets, the ocean, the tropical birds, and the bright colorful artwork of the city, all inspire the
feeling that Rio brings. The colors of Destination Rio have been selected to showcase the colors of a
brighter side of nature. Color has been evolving in the recent years to be more bold and vibrant. People
are seeking joy in dark times. Bright colors psychologically make us feel happy and give a sense of
promise. That is what the times are about now. Too much tragedy has been taking place in the world
and we desire a colorful getaway from the harshness of reality. The names have been chosen to
represent the part of nature they represent or the feeling of the city of Rio. Brazilian Sol, is a vibrant
yellow that encompasses the sun and the soul of happiness. Macaw Green is inspired by the beauty of
the bird. Together these two colors also represent the Brazilian flag, which will be very noticeable
during the Olympic Summer Games in 2016. Sunset Sky is a yellow-orange that can be seen in a
beautiful sunset on the beach. Carnival of Fire is a rich, passionate red that represents the fire dancers
of Carnival. Ocean Blue is the color of the ocean and sky. Birds of a Feather is the light turquoise of a
birds feather. Rainforest is the rich, bold, dark green of foliage. And finally, Rio Red is the color of wine,
of a silky, sexy dress, and the color of sensuality.
The textiles and findings are also taken from nature. They are inspired by the idea of being
relaxed and keeping cool. They are also sensual and feel good on the skin. For day, they are lightweight
and easy. Linens, jerseys, and cotton gauze are comfortable for daytime activities. These fabrics keep
the body cool from the hot summer sun. Silk chiffon, satins, and charmeuse feel sensual on the skin and

are light and cool for hot, steamy nights. Iridescent silk chiffon is especially interesting for exciting
evening looks, and printed chiffons will be a desirable choice. The laces of this time will evolve to more
interesting, modern patterns and be made from cotton and linen. The trims and findings will be natural
and flirty. Buttons are made of shells, nuts, and bones. Feminine trims of flowers will move forward
from soft roses to bright tropical flowers and leaves. These accompany daytime looks that are earthy
and relaxed. Lately, fringe and feather trims have started being seen on the runways. These trims
reflect well in the evening looks of Destination Rio.
The look of Destination Rio can be seen in three parts; day looks, evening looks, and swimwear.
The theme between them all is the relaxed, sexy style that is Rio. Recently, many looks for women have
been androgynous. Menswear fashions for women have been gaining momentum over for the next
season. 2016 will be a celebration of women, and the looks will be on point with that. This woman is
not afraid to show her femininity. She realizes that is what makes women different from men, and
knows that it does not take away her intelligence or abilities. The wide leg pant has made its mark at
the fall 14 fashion shows and has been noted as a trend to watch. This look makes a perfect daytime
pant made of linen and cotton gauze to give that comfortable, cool feeling of walking on the beach. The
maxi skirt will shorten to a mid-calf length to ankle length, but will continue to be a loose comfortable
staple in a womens wardrobe. The Kaftan is another daytime look that will be on trend. It was seen on
the Rio runway this season by Victor Dzenk. It was also a popular silhouette 1970s, which was a major
trend for Fall 14. It is a perfect bohemian style for the Rio look. The Kaftan can be in a full length or
used at a tunic length as a blouse. The romper and jumper will continue to be an easy laid back favorite.
The cuts will be more relaxed and loose. Printed jersey will match up well with them. The seventies
theme will also meet the sex appeal of the nightlife of Rio with looks that are asymmetrical made of silk
satin. These will stay on trend with the Disco looks coming out now that match with the feel of Samba
dancing. The high low trend will evolve to a side cut instead of the more recent front to back. This style

was seen in the Rio fashion shows recently by Ungaro and the Fall show of Versace. Another look will be
to mix shorts into evening wear. This is a sexy, modern look that is perfectly paired with a printed
chiffon. Street style has shown women wearing shorts under open button down skirts as an upcoming
trend.
The swimwear looks will accompany the theme of feminine, sexy, and strong women. First,
there are embellishments of fringe, flowers, and beading, for a feminine feel. Second, theres an athletic
look that will include asymmetrical cuts that make a sexier look. Surf styles will also be seen in bright,
vibrant tropical prints. The surf style looks will branch out to mainstream swimwear. These types of
swimwear have already hit the runways in Rio by Blue Man and Recherche. Another popular look will be
to mix bikini tops with daywear, like the wide leg pant and a button down linen shirt. These were seen
at Cia Maritimas show for this spring and are reminiscent of past designs by Jean Paul Gaultier, Carolina
Herrera, and Ungaro.
The accessories will mimic the trims and findings. The current trends in accessories will be taken
to the beach feel of Rio. A continuation of wearing necklaces backwards can be done with multiple
strands of beads. Arm cuffs and ear cuffs with tropical themes add interest and sex appeal. The head
scarf will be a popular way for women to wear the scarves they adore. Materials such as tortoise shell,
wood, and rope will be showcased in exciting jewelry and bags. Statement hats will be popular and
functional, to keep the sun off the face.
The hair and makeup will be from natural for day to bold and colorful for evening. The dramatic
look of the eyes will be inspired by birds. The popularity of beach waves will continue for day and can
be easily put up for evening.

In the world of home dcor, we have seen the bright colors of Destination Rio show up already.
From bright colorful walls and pillows, to the natural beach materials of doors and cabinets, the theme
is the same; cheery, relaxing comfort.
The worlds eyes will be on Rio de Janeiro in 2016, but Rio will be seen everywhere. The colors,
the feel, the rhythm, and the beat will be in our hearts and our souls. The colors, fabrics, trims, and
looks will take women away to this destination, even if they cant get there physically. This woman can
feel sexy, confident, relaxed, and powerful at the same time. The easy, laid back looks will be desirable
to all women at this time. It will be even more important to be conscious of the environment, which will
add to the desire for natural fibers and materials. This type of fashion will appeal to a broader range of
environmentally conscious women who want to care without compromising a sexy, fashionable style.
Destination Rio is a feeling and a lifestyle that many will be seeking in 2016. It is a getaway. It
is fun and excitement. It is the world coming together, and it is everyone being the person they want to
be.
