Racism/Racial Profiling
In Reyna Grande's memoir, Reyna faces many problems. But one of the problems is one that
not only affects Reyna Grande and her family, it affects everyone coming into the United States.
Racism/Racial Profiling; the act of ignorance/non respectfulness towards another person
belonging to a different culture/race. Thinking low/less of another culture. The thought process
of labeling that different person as no good and knows nothing due to belonging to another
culture/race. But how can this problem be solved? Who has the power to make this problem go
away? A solution has been brought to the table and it's up to The House, Senate, President, and
U.S Government to make the change and listen to my proposal/solution.
When Reyna Grande moved into the U.S with her father. She was amazed to know that school
was free and so was opportunity. But when she started school her eyes opened and she was
racially profiled immediately as a immigrant by others and was even teased by her classmates
because she didn't want to single out her last name (Grande pg.172). Another example is when
her older sister named Mago had a crush on a boy named Pepe, but he had been racist to her for
not speaking English he also called her and her little brother Carlos "Wetbacks! Wetbacks!"
(Grande pg. 211). This is what some immigrant children encounter in school but can also face in
the outside world, not to mention all the future problems such as racism, these children will face
when they grow up as a immigrant adult/parent.
Immigrant parents are always in danger of being separated from their "Americanized"
child/families. Both immigrant Parents and immigrant adults encounter higher problems such as
being racially profiled by police officers, deportation, no SSI, healthcare and more. Why are
immigrants being profiled as people that mooch of society, criminals, people who won't pay
taxes and "take jobs away from the Americans" ("Illegal Immigrants Taking Jobs 2013"). I heard
stories of immigrants paying taxes using a fake social security to feel better about themselves
and give back to America for all of the good it's done for them (Germano prg. 1). What's even
worse is that the U.S Government is establishing racist laws against the immigrants that helped
bring America to what it is now. Such as Arizona's new anti-immigration law, giving power to
police to detain immigrant looking people and ask for their green card (Morse prgs. 1-2). With
this racist law installed in Arizona, it's amazing how a riot or rebellion hasn't broke out in the
state capitol.
The Senate, House, President and U.S Government should care for this problem, because it can
lead to destruction or even a possible revolt. If this problem of racism/racial profiling still goes
on, the "future" of the U.S will be in danger of racist raised citizens thinking that immigrants
shouldn't deserve health care, aren't worth to be in our hospitals if sick, only commit crimes, and
don't deserve to be citizens. This is a big threat to the children, because children are always
taking in information given out by others such as news or school. What if America's poorly
treatment towards the immigrants will influence children to act a poorly way towards them.
Children are our future and we can't have our future thinking in a racist ignorant manner. With
my proposal/solution the problem can be solved.
My proposal/solution to this problem is called "Education of the REAL America (EOTRA)", a
solution that will merely cost a bit of money and take little resources. It will be established
in schools around the United States at a specific time children are not present. This way children
have no way to be in contact with the ignorant/racist and their minds have no chance of being
manipulated into thinking that immigrants aren't the same as us, don't work as hard as us, and
don't deserve the same rights as us. It will target the racist/racially profiling people and educate
them to think a different way about others, a non racist way. Different schools will have
different days of operation and time schedules for the person's convenience, with a effective
education plan.
The educational teaching will be constructed by historians of Native Indians and Minorities.
the educational plan that will take place in EOTRA will be two main courses. Course one
titled the "Education of Native Indians and Minorities". Which will educate the racist and
ignorant about how Native Indians and minorities helped America be the America it is today.
And Course two titled "What It Took to Make America What it is Today". Which will talk about
how America took the Native's and Mexicans land with bloodshed, greed, and extortion. All the
suffrage and negative outputs the Americans gave out during the raids of un found land that was
occupied by people.
The solution will target ANYONE that is racist/racially profiling anyone due to the culture or
color of the skin. Anyone establishing or supporting any racist/racially profiling movements or
laws against another race/culture. Anyone including Government officials, President etc.. can be
targeted by the "Education of the REAL America (EOTRA)". Any person showing any sign of
racism towards another for belonging to another culture shall be targeted. No "Immunities" shall
be given out to anyone for any reason.
If the targeted person passes the EOTRA classes and psychological interview. The person shall
be instituted back into its job or "living" it was in before. The person will no longer need to take
the classes anymore but will be "checked" up on randomly by a EOTRA agent to see if the
person has been racist in anyway like before. If the targeted person passes its random "check"
ups the person shall no longer be targeted for anymore random "check" ups and will be let go out
of the program. The name and credentials will still be in account with the department of EOTRA.
If a person passes the EOTRA classes and Psychological interview but not the random
"checks" ups, that person shall have one last chance to pass all classes, psychological interview
and random "check" ups . If the targeted person passes both classes and interview
but fails the random "check" up again. The person shall be sent to a court of law and be given a
sentence, fine or even exile off the U.S with appeal if the problem persist. If a person passes all
three steps; EOTRA classes, interview, and random check ups, but shows proof of being
racist/racially profiling people the person shall be sent to a court of law and be voted to either
stay in the U.S or be exiled to another country after their appeal. People who fail the EOTRA
classes and psychological interview shall be given 3 chances to pass, if not passed an appeal of
court shall be sent for an explanation of why the person is not passing EOTRA protocol, decision
of the court may vary.
The House, Senate, President and U.S Government have the power to fix this problem with
education (EOTRA). The role of these leaders/government officials is that they have the power
to give influence to the American people and install plans. The U.S Government also has the
power to establish law. If the President can give an introduction of this proposition to the people
of the U.S it may be thought of as a right decision because the president himself is introducing
the problem with a solution. Not much money will be taken out of taxes and the program was
made for a good cause, our children and future.
Once inspiration and influence is given out by the president, news and media. The support for
this solution/proposal will be gained enough to be signed by the American people and be
introduced to the U.S Government. The proposal would then be put in effect within a year, once
all teachers are hired and schools are chosen. It is up to everyone in the United States to unite
for this plan and make it happen. Racism in the U.S will decline to a great level, and racial
profiling in the U.S will be extinct only the true Americans that believe "every human is the
same" will be able to stay, work, govern and be free.
We have learned from our past mistakes and must never go back, just move forward to never
make those mistakes again. The people that have the power to do this change are the ones that
have the power to make this country truly the land of the free, the land where no one will be
discriminated for where there from or because of how they talk. The land where everyone has
equal opportunity and no advantage over others because of skin color. It's starting to be the mere
future and our future has no space for racism or ignorance, only space for peace, advancement,
and moving together as a whole nation to a better future.
