G. Procedure:
1. Teacher will go over vocabulary for the day. Then teacher will start of by introducing
school and classroom rules to students.
2. After going over each rule. Teacher will talk about the importance of doing the right
thing and being kind to others.
3. Teacher will introduce Pretzels to students so that they are challenged to treat each
other with respect and caring. Teacher will have students discuss ways other learners
have been helpful by opening the door or kind by sharing materials. The do-gooders
during the week will receive pretzels and other goodies when caught doing something
good.
4. Teacher will then introduce the data sheet p. 74 on Integrating Language Arts and
Social Studies course book to students. Teacher will go over problem identification,
concern, and ways to solve the concern. As a class students will fill out the data sheet.
5. After data sheet is completed go over Data sheet on p. 70-76 on Integrating
Language Arts and Social Studies course book to make sure students understood
activity.
H. Assessment:
What will you use to measure student understanding?
The data sheet and discussions as a class while completing data chart sheet.
Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.
When students are able to identify a problem in their classroom or school and be able
to find a solution to resolve the problem.

I. Closure:
Go over classroom rules one last time. Discuss why students should care for other
students and importance of helping, thanking and being kind to others.
J. Reflection:
1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?
I think the easiest part of the lesson would be the part where teacher teaches
classroom rules. I think that because students are in 1
st
they should be aware of
classroom rules since kindergarten so it should be review for them.
2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?
I think the hardest part to teach students would be finding a concern and ways to
solve the concern. I think students may have a hard time finding concerns since
they are so young and carefree; they might not have many concerns.

3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?
As a follow up lesson, I would have students consider ways to thank others who have
helped them. Have students write or draw a picture as a thank you note to family
members or others who have helped them.
4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?
For Students who are not grasping the concept I could have them draw a picture of
themselves following the rules, being kind and helping someone solve a problem.
5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?
I like my lesson plan the way it is right now. I dont think I would make any changes.
Possibly add a couple more vocabulary words, but I think it is great the way it is.
6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?
The most difficult part of this lesson was integrating a language arts strategy into my
lesson from our course book. It was hard finding a strategy that matched a civics
lesson strand; most strategies are for history or geography.
7. Explain the strategy from Integrating Language Arts & Social Studies that you
included in this lesson plan.
The strategy I included in my lesson plan from the course book Integrating
Language Arts and Social Studies was strategy 10 on p. 70 Incorporating Service
Learning. This strategy helps students understand their social responsibilities in the
classroom or school by following classroom rules. Also, by being kind and helping
others resolve their problems. Using the data sheet students can think of a problem,
the concern, and then a solution for the problem as a class or independent
depending on the age group.
