Marketing Research People who work in this group try to figure out what causes
people to buy products and services. They may collect information to find out if people
would buy a certain product and what they would pay for it. They may predict how many
people would buy it and say how it should best be presented to the public.
Governance People who work in these occupations are involved with managing the
country, a state, or a city. Many are elected to a public office by voters. Others are
employed by the elected people to help them with their job duties. Examples of such
occupations are members of Congress, governors, state officials, council members,
and their staffs.
Counseling and Mental Health Services People who work in this group of occupations
help others who are faced with personal, family, or career problems and decisions.
They assist them to see their choices clearly and to make a choice that seems best.
They may work in private offices, clinics, schools, or hospitals.
Teaching and Training People who work in this group of occupations provide
instruction to students at specific grade levels or in specific subjects. In addition to
knowing the content of what they teach, they need to know how to work with students.
They often need to encourage them to learn and to change their approach to meet
individual needs.
Legal Services People who work in this group of occupations are lawyers and
assistants at various levels. Some research the law to determine what is legal in a
given case. Others defend or prosecute those who have broken the law. Some take
careful notes in court trials. Some develop estate plans or documents for the sale of
property. Others review documents, such as property titles, to determine if they are
legally correct or appropriate for a specific purpose.

Professional Support Services People who work in this group of occupations provide
a variety of special services in school settings. These individuals help students with
personal, physical, and educational problems. Examples of these occupations are
school counselors, social workers, psychologists, and speech pathologists.
Therapeutic Services People who work in this group of occupations deal directly with
patients to provide whatever kind of medical care or treatment they need. Many kinds of
technicians, nurses, and medical assistants who work under the direction of medical
doctors are included.
Information Support and Services Many who work in this group of occupations
collect, enter, and analyze data by computer. Some organize computer databases.
Others write computer programs. Still others design the logic of computer systems and
oversee their operation.
Emergency and Fire Management Services People who work in this group protect the
public by helping when there are emergencies. Some rescue people who are trapped in
a fire, car accident, or natural disaster such as a tornado or flood. Others drive and
provide emergency medical care to patients in ambulances or at home before they
arrive at a hospital. Still others oversee and manage rescue operations.
