Calculate (a) the characteristic impedance (b) the propagation constant.

2. A telephone line has R = 6 ohms/km, L = 2.2 mho/km, C = 0.005 f/km and G = 0.05
mho/km. Determine Zo, , at 1 KHz. If the line length is 100 km, determine the
attenuation and phase shift of the signal. Calculate the phase velocity of the signal.

3. A telephone line has R = 6 ohms/km, L = 2.2 mho/km, C = 0.005 f/km and G = 0.05
mho/km, the line length is 100 km, if a signal of 1 V supplies power to the line
terminated in its characteristics impedance, find the power delivered at the receiving end.

4. A lossless transmission line with characteristic impedance 500 ohms is excited by a
signal of voltage 10 0
o

point of the line for Z
L

5. A 50 ohm lossless line connects a signal of 100 KHz to a load of 100 ohm. The load
power is 100 mW. Calculate the (a) voltage reflection coefficient (b) VSWR (c) position

Vmin.

6. A lossless transmission line with characteristic impedance of 300 ohm is fed by a
generator of voltage 0

volts and impedance 100 ohm. The line is 100m long and is
terminated by a resistive load of 200 ohm. Calculate the reflection loss, the transmission
loss and return loss.

7. A transmission line of length 100m and characteristic impedance of 100 ohm is
terminated by a load Z
L

impedance and admittance, at 25m from the load end at a frequency of 10 MHz.

8. A lossless transmission line has C = 95 pF/m, Zo= 100 ohms, If the operating frequency
is 3 GHz, calculate (a) the phase constant (b) the phase velocity Vp (c) the wavelength on
the line.

9. Sketch the standing wave patterns for the voltage and current along the line when the
termination is (a) open circuit (b) short circuit (c) purely inductive load (d) purely
capacitive load (e) matched load Zo.

10. Calculate the incident power for the transmission line of length 100m and characteristic
impedance of 100 ohm is terminated by a load Z
L
= 100 j200 ohm. Also determine the
net power delivered to the load for a frequency of 10 MHz.
