Although most of our time revolves around the colleye activities, one of our greatest blessinys has been the fellowship we have enjoyed this year with our children and theother missionary families, Kevin is a very busy seven year old and finds life extremely interesting. For awhile his teacher was encouraging the students to bring items of interest for their nature study table. Kevin and Steve^Taylor are not the best of students so decided this would be a good way to imoress their teacher. They spent many hours collec t Ing interest ing '' items tadpoles, butterflies, 37 caterpillars, several scorpions ^or some reason the teacher discontinued that line of of "how olants --row." Berry's office was beginning hobby store with gliders In many forms of construction Since Derrv is the only missionarv with an aircraft mechanics license, and the only '^ove-rnment licensed ^lider inspector. -2- he has been appointed head-repair man. It was a real surprise to us to discover that the Government owned several -rliders and were not able to fly them because no one in the country was qualified to certify them as air-worthy. The Aviation Department of Ghana decided Derry came closest to anyone else in the country to qualify as an inspector and asked him if he would be available. Since he likes flying almost as much as preachinn;, he consented to help them out. ^hervl, too, has been busy this year. She is in fourth Tirade and is busy learninT many new thin"^s. She has been takinc?: piano lessons, studvinT math, learning to swim, studying math, helping Donna in the house, studyin'^ math, and taking care of her puppy and chickens, and then studying more math. It seems.this is especially true for a missionary family on furlough. You have probably wondered where we have been spending the last three months since our return from Ghanac Much of the time has been spent in traveling to churches that have supported us during the past three years. It has been a real blessing to share with them our experience during our term of missionary en deavors and to challenge them anew with the opportunities available to us in Ghana. Donna says the next biggest share of our time has been spent sitting in some doctor^s office, We'are happy to report that tb/o medical problems encountered during our stay in Africa are being worked out. Our health has improved and we are thoroughly enjoying all this fine American food. To bring you up-to-date on the mission work in Ghana we would like to call your attention to a few important facts. First, the problem over the quota and visas for the. missionaries has been settled and the missionaries granted new visas for two years. Donna and I will still have to make application for ours but there should not be any problem^ The colleo:e is now in its fouYth year. This has not been an easy four vears, ^'^e have some speci,1al 'n^eds that we would like you to be prayincr about. A primary need is for more men that are willing to help -4^ith thee.Va nrr.9l-i-g443^ of neod now^^eor>u i-tot~ Seeo ndly^we need churches that will assume responsibility for the evangelization oZ' Ghana. Mission work costs money, ^ e need churches and individuals that will help us. Thirdly, we need the constant and fervent prayers of many for the missionaries, students of Ghana Christian College, church leaders, and for the government of Ghana. The opportunities ir. Ghana are great; whether or not we can take hold of these will depend to a large degree on the response of Christians in America to see that we have the men, money, and power needed to do the job. We want to take this opportunity to thank the Christian Church i;.' Worthington, Indiana for assuming the responsibility the past three years of publishing our newsletters. They have done this without re muneration and whenever called upon. It has been a great blessing to us. During our next term of service this will be done by the Pioneer Class of the Westwood Christian Church in Madison, Wisconsin, We appreciate their willingness to serve in this way. They are working now on a special report for us. Watch for iti PAG'J] 2 The missionaries in Ghana write that the work is going well and there is a crood spirit among the students. New churches are being established throurrh the combined efforts of students, lay preachers and missionaries. Please pray for our missionaries now on the field and for the Lord's blessing upon their work. The work is many times exhaustin"* and our men meet with many tr^/ing circumstances as they labor for Ihrist, ^'^e are resurrecting the airplane fundl After tvjo years actual exoerience travelling through Ghana on unimproved roads I am convinced that a plane will cut down our travel time greatly and also enable us to reach new areas for Christ, -''e will have to add to the money in this fund in order to purchase a plane. Your help in this project at this time would again be greatly appreciatedl Our plans are to return to the work in. Gha-na in August of this coming year. The children will be able to finish the school year here in Lincoln, . I will also be.able to complete the work at Lincoln Christian"College-for my"Master's Degree. Classes at Lincoln are ex cellent and the additional knowledge gained will be put to good use in Ghana, I have classes Tuesday and Wednesday all day, Thursday I use for study, correspondence,, etc., Friday .1 usually find myself leaving for speaking engagements, and then return to Lincoln on Monday, This wook-evid I vrill be in Milwaukee and Madison, .Wisconsin, Next week-end I will be presenting the Ghana work in Pittsburgh, Pa, I just figured out What we have been doing'in the th have been .home. Perhaps you would be interested too, I hav^preached IB sermons, presented 21 slide programs of the Ghana work, taught two weeks of VRg, appeared on one TV program, taught [|. Bible school lessons and b youth vroups, spoke at one men's breakfast and one ladies' tea, one camp retreat and attended the North American Christian Convention, T^^ational 'Mssionar-'- Convention, and the "'Msconsin State Convention, and one faith-promise rally. In all, 21-d^if-ferenteh-urches have been visited on behalf of the Ghana .work, I had been feeling guilty about not getting out a newsletter but after looking over my schedule for past few months I don't feel so bad. > May the Lord bless you all.
