October 2009 IBR Crime Statistics

The Richardson Police Department released crime statistics today for Group A offenses (i.e. murder, sexual
assault, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, and other crimes) recorded this year.

Citizen initiated calls for police service during October 2009 totaled 4,447 compared to 4,775 for the same
month in 2008, a 6.9% decrease. The day of the week with the highest percentage of calls was Friday,
which averaged 159 calls each week. Year to date there have been 46,303 citizen-initiated calls for service
as compared to 46,260 the previous year, a 0% change.

2009 YEAR-TO-DATE JUVENILE SUMMARY:


This year-to-date there were 279 juveniles taken into custody, compared to 240 last year. Of the 279 taken
into custody this year, 252 (90%) were arrested for criminal offenses. Of the 252 juveniles taken into
custody for criminal offenses, 182 (72%) were male and 70 (28%) were female. Of the 252 criminal
juveniles arrested, 189 (75%) were first time criminal offenders and 136 (54%) were non-residents.

Of the 93 runaway offenses reported this year, 35 (38%) were male and 58 (62%) were female.

STOLEN PROPERTY:
This year-to-date estimated total value of property stolen was $8,940,127. Last year’s year-to-date total
was $6,376,983. This represents a 40% increase in the value of property stolen. The total value of
recovered stolen property so far this year is $2,734,290 as compared to last year’s total of $2,128,486 an
increase of 28%.

The number of vehicles stolen from other cities and recovered in Richardson year to date was 70 compared
to 75 last year. This represents a 7% decrease.

TRAFFIC COLLISION SUMMARY (as recorded on CRB-3’s):

There were a reported 174 motor vehicle collisions in the month of October. Year-to-date there has been a
reported 1,591 motor vehicle collisions. This compares to 1,844 reported motor vehicle collisions last year.
This represents a decrease of 253 (13.7%). The day of the week with the highest average number of
collisions was Friday. Year-to-date there have been 2 traffic related fatalities as compared to 12 last year-
to-date.
