SENATOR CAROL BROWN

SHADOW PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY FOR FAMILIES

AND PAYMENTS
LABOR SENATOR FOR TASMANIA
MEDIA RELEASE
ABBOTTS BUDGET WORSE THAN EXPECTED FOR TASMANIANS
Tasmanian pensioners, young people, the sick and families will be hit hardest by the
Federal Budget, Labor Senator Carol Brown said today.
The Federal Budget is worse than we expected.
It is a cruel Budget that will hit the most vulnerable Tasmanians and condemn
many to a life of poverty.
Tony Abbott has betrayed Tasmanians. He promised no cuts to health and
education, no new taxes and no tax increases.
Many Tasmanians are already struggling and this will make life so much harder and
the drain on charities will be enormous.
How will Tasmanians on low incomes afford $7 to visit the doctor and $5 extra for
their prescriptions?
How will Tasmanians on low incomes afford an extra four cents a litre for petrol?
How will Tasmanians working in blue collar jobs keep working until they are 70?
Tasmanians will not trust Tony Abbott again.
We have a crisis in youth unemployment in Tasmania and this will get worse under
the Abbott Government.
Tasmanian unemployment will get higher and the States economic recovery will be
set back.
Tony Abbott has betrayed Tasmanians. He promised no cuts to health and
education, no new taxes and no tax increases.
