Questionnaire Graphs

Gender

When asking the question 60% of the people were female and 40% were male, this
means that some of the answers could be biased and against the rock genre, however
it also shows how more women are listening to a stereotypical male genre of music,
which gives off connotations of masculinity. On the other hand, the majority of the
females interviewed may have a more modern, yet harder taste within music genres,
breaking the female stereotype of listening to soft pop/soul music with feminine
figures.

I will add this to my designs; the colour scheme I will use will be appealing to both
genders and I will not use colours are stereotypically for one gender, this will mean
that a bigger audience will want to view or purchase out digipak.

By making the digipak more appealing to a broader audience it will mean that more
people will want to purchase the digipak,

Age
The majority of people that
we asked were 15 to 19 this
means that the feedback we
received could be biased to a
teenage point of view,
however this helps because
our target audience is from
the age of 15 onwards so the
feedback we received was
very helpful, the teenage
point of view was very
helpful in helping with what
conventions, we should incorporate in our music video.

Because the target audience for my product from 15 and above it means that in my
digipak I have to incorporate a design that will be appealing for a large audience, and
I will also have to design something that connotes the genre of my product.

Genre Interests

The majority of the people that
we asked liked rnb music
however rock music came in
second which means that the
people that were asked have a
general idea of what they want
to see in a rock music video.

Because a high majority of the
people we questioned listen to
rock music it means that they
have insight into the genre of music, this means that the answers they have given us
are a reflection of what the target audience expects to see.

Lighting

Dull lighting was voted for the most, this is what the audience expect to see in a rock
music video, stereotypically rock songs have been very dingy and dull, however in
our music video we are going to use a combination of bright, dark and dull lighting
this is to create and contrast within the music video, and by going against the
stereotypical conventions of the rock music genre I hope to make the music video
more interesting and appealing to a wider audience.

The reason I want to use a variety of lighting effects is to manipulate how the
audience feels during their viewing experience, which should hopefully make the

music video more entertaining to watch. My product is going to be unconventional
and will challenge the stereotypical lighting used in a rock music video, this is so it is
more appealing to a broader audience and also so it is more enjoyable and also so
more people will want to watch it over.

Band in Music Video

Most people voted for the band not to be seen in the music video, this is most
probably because in modern rock music videos there is more of a narrative to the
music video where there is a main character being followed and there is a struggle
which is dealt with during the process of the video.

Looking at Goodwins music video theory I can see that the genre characteristics are
very important and because 60% of our audience voted for the band to be in the music
video if they are included I will make them look angry and also dressed in dark
clothing to match the genre of rock. His theory also consists of the music video being
linked to the narrative of the music video, which can be done with the use of the bad
in the music video.

The band may be put into the video and shown occasionally, this is to keep some
traditional conventions of the rock music genre. The band in the music video is very
stereotypically used in rock music videos; I may not put them in because 40% of the
audience voted against it could mean that the band being in the music video could
ruin the narrative and not make it as interesting.

Relationship struggle

A relationship struggle is what was voted for most, this is because in modern day
music videos of all genres it is very common to have a struggle, and for the audience
to be able to relate to the music video, a struggle in a relationship is most commonly
used because a high majority of people can relate to it.

A relationship struggle is also used to make a music video more entertaining for a
broader audience or different age groups; this is helpful because I want the music
video to be entertaining for all age groups and both genres, and for it to be gripping
for the full 5 minutes of the music video.

Using a relationship struggle is important to get the audiences emotional interaction,
and to also manipulate the equilibrium of the music video, with a relationship struggle
the equilibrium of the video will be up and down and the audience will feel like they
are more engrossed in my product, the audience should be able to relate to the
relationship, especially because our target audience is 15 and above, it is important
that the audience can relate to the media product because it means that they will watch
it and enjoy it and also it will attract more of an audience can relate to. When an
audience can relate to the relationship or an individual in the music video it will
become more enjoyable to them as a consumer of the product, it will also mean that
they will tell people to watch it as well,

Camera Angles

Close up shots are voted for the most because, this allows the audience to see the
emotions of the characters, and to also get a real feel for who they are, this allows the
audience to sympathise for the characters in the music video. This is highly
conventional in the rock music genre; gaining the audiences sympathy is essential in
making the audience enjoy and feel like they are a part of the music video. The use of
camera angles in helping us teach the audience about drugs, the use of extreme close
ups are important because in the rock music genre there is always a message in the
music video, and in ours the audiences is going to be alerted of the dangers of
cocaine.
Low angles came in second this is because it can be used to connote that the
characters are powerful during a music video and this is very helpful in showing a
power struggle in a music video, especially if used alongside and close up shot and
used after and high angle shot. However a high angle shot could also very effective in
making the character seem powerful, a mixture of camera angles is very important in
the progress of the narrative, the use of multiple camera is so the audience can get
emotionally attached this will make the experience more enjoyable
Playing around with the angles of the shots changes the power of the characters, and
because throughout the duration of the music video I want there to be a continuous
change in the status and power, to make it entertaining for the audience.
Through changing the camera angles, I can make it very entertaining and abstract for
the audience, the change in camera angles can alter how the audience perceive the
characters in the music video.
A contrast in camera angles is very conventional in rock music videos, this is because
it makes the equilibrium of the music video up and down this is so the audience can
identify all of the relationships in the music video and also so they can get an
understanding for each character and emphasise them
