You may use a soft pencil for any diagrams or graphs.
Do not use staples, paper clips, highlighters, glue or correction fluid.

Answer all the questions.
Give non-exact numerical answers correct to 3 significant figures, or 1 decimal place in the case of
angles in degrees, unless a different level of accuracy is specified in the question.
You are expected to use a graphic calculator.
Unsupported answers from a graphic calculator are allowed unless a question specifically states
otherwise.
Where unsupported answers from a graphic calculator are not allowed in a question, you are required
to present the mathematical steps using mathematical notations and not calculator commands.
You are reminded of the need for clear presentation in your answers.

At the end of the examination, arrange your answers in NUMERICAL ORDER.

Find

(a) the exact area of R. [3]

(b) the volume of the solid of revolution formed when R is rotated through 2 radians
about the x-axis. Leave your answer correct to 3 significant figures. [2]

5. It has been suggested that the outbreak of H1N1 in Mexico in 2009 can be modelled by a
special type of differential equation called Logistic Equation. In this model, x denotes the
number of infected individuals in the population of a town at any time t days. The differential
equation is given by

=
N
x
x
t
x
1 2 . 0
d
d

where 0.2 indicates the initial growth rate of the virus and N can be taken to be the population.
It was known that a small town has a population of 1000 and initially 20 people were infected
with H1N1.
(i) Show that

(ii) Hence sketch the solution curve, indicating clearly asymptotes and axial intercepts if any. [2]

(iii) Deduce the number of days when 75% of the population will be infected with H1N1.
State one assumption you have made about the population in your calculation. [3]

6. (a) Given that 2 1 i + is a root of the equation z

of the real numbers a and b. [3]
State, with a reason, whether 2 1 i must also be a root of the equation. [1]

(b) Solve the equation 0 3 8 8

similar form. [6]

Illustrate both of these relations on a single Argand diagram.
Hence find the minimum values of ) 2 ( arg and 2 z z . [5]

7. (a) Relative to the origin O, two points A and B have position vectors given by a =i +j + k
and b =5i j k respectively. The line L

has equation r = (mi +nj +pk), where .
Given that L bisects angle AOB, determine a relationship between m, n and p. [3]

(b) Relative to the origin O, three points A, B and C have position vectors given by a =j,
b =i j +k and c =i 4k respectively. The line l

passes through A and is parallel to the
vector i 2j. Another line l
2
passes through C and is parallel to the vector i +j +13k.
The plane passes through point B and contains the line l

(ii) Find the coordinates of the point of intersection of l

(iii) The point D lies in and is such that AD is perpendicular to l

Find the two vectors m and n such that

AD =k (m n), k , and justify your

answer. [2]

Section B: Statistics

8. The random variable X is normally distributed with mean 55 and standard deviation 13. It is
known that P(55+a X 55 +b) =0.6423 where a and b are constants. This information is
shown in the figure below.

Given that P(X 55 +a) =2P(X 55 +b),
(i) show that P(X 55 +a) =0.2385, correct to 4 decimal places. [1]
(ii) find the values of a and b. [3]

9. (a) Find the number of 3-letter code-words that can be formed from the letters of the word
EPICENTRE. [4]

(b) A group of 10 people consists of 3 married couples, 3 single women and 1 single man.
They are seated at a round table for a lunch gathering.
Find the number of different possible seating arrangements if
(i) each couple must sit together and the 3 single women are separated. [3]
(ii) the seats are numbered and the 3 single women must be together. [2]

10. 100 male and female customers patronised a book shop which sold only non-fiction books,
fiction books and magazines. Each customer bought only one item. A breakdown of what the
customers bought is given in the following table:

Non-fiction Books Fiction Books Magazines
Male 12 16 32
Female 8 12 20

One customer is chosen at random. Find the probability that:
(i) the customer is female given that the customer bought a magazine, [1]
(ii) the customer is female or bought a magazine. [2]

State, with a reason, whether the event that the customer is male and the event that the
customer bought a non-fiction book are independent. [2]

Three customers are chosen at random.
(iii) Find the probability that two bought magazines and one bought a fiction book. [2]

11. In a particular city, 1 in every 500 people has a high IQ, on average.
(i) Show that, in a random sample of 20 people from the city, the probability that there is
at least one person with a high IQ is 0.0392, correct to 3 significant figures. [1]
(ii) A random sample of 60 groups of 20 people each is taken from the city.
Using a suitable approximation, find the probability that there are exactly 2 groups
with at least one person having a high IQ in the group. [3]
(iii) Another random sample of 30 people is taken from the city and arranged in some order.
Find the probability that, in this sample, there are at most 3 people with a high IQ and
the first person with a high IQ is the 20
th
person. [3]
