New safety tools
The circular WH23 series fire dampers have been designed
for air distribution within buildings combining maximum
safety in the prevention of propagation of fires and with
aeraulic and acoustic performances even in the smallest
foreseen dimensions.
They guarantee perfect isolation from heat and a complete air
tight seal for both hot and cold smoke, as shown from the
numerous tests carried out in accordance with EN 1366-2 and
then classifications obtained in accordance with EN 13501-3.
The WH23 series circular fire dampers are a fundamental
safety tool against the propagation of fires, heat transfer and
spread of smoke and harmful gasses.
Prevention of indirect damages
The patented WH23 circular fire dampers guarantee a perfect
seal both when cold and hot during all the fire test with a
depression of 300 Pa as foreseen by EN 1366-2 (article 10.3)
standard.
By connecting the fire dampers to the fire and smoke alarm
system, it is possible to anticipate the closure of the damper
compared to the direct reaction resulting from the propagation
of fumes and gassed generated by combustion with buildings.

When installing the dampers, a minimum distance of 200mm between dampers must be kept as established by EN
1366-2 (article 13.5)
In all wall installations, a minimum distance of 75mm must be kept from the ceiling, pavement and side walls.
In all ceiling installations, a minimum distance of 75mm will also have to be kept from the side walls, as established
in EN 1366-2 (article 13.5).

Overview
Tests carried out
Repeated stress tests for damper open-close cycles have
been carried out according to standards EN 1366-2 (article
10.2) and EN 15650 (attachment C)
50 cycles with versions with mechanical release;
300 cycles with versions with magnetic release;
10.000 cycles with versions with servomotor;
Air tight seal tests for cold fumes with 300 Pa depression
have been carried out on the smallest and biggest dampers,
in accordance with the EN 1366-2 standard (article 6.1);
Various fire tests have been carried out on the largest damper
to reproduce all the possible installations foreseen by then
1366-2 standard (articles 6.2 and 6.3).
Air tight seal test for hot fumes maintaining a depression of
300 Pa through the duration of the fire test;
Temperature controlled during the fire test on the sides of
the frame, on the extraction duct, on the supporting wall
close to all the perimeter of the damper with certification
that none of the points measures more that 180 C, as
indicated by the EN 1363-1 standard (article 11.3).
Test on the thermal fuse which should guarantee the
closure of the damper within two minutes from the start of
the fire test as established by EN 1366-2 (article 10.4.6).
The execution of the fire test on the largest size and the air
seal test against cold fumes on the smallest and largest
Materials
Duct made in galvanized carbon steel or stainless steel;
blade made from refractory material;
gasket for cold fumes made from silicone;
thermal expanding graphite gasket.
Excellent aeraulic and acoustic performances .
The patented WH23 circular fire dampers show minimum
pressure loss and noise power levels . They allow an air speed
up to 12 m/s.
Quick and easy installation
The prime objective during the planning of the WH23
dampers, was to maximum the ease and simplicity of
installation and sealing.
Opening and Closing Mechanisms
The release of the damper blade occurs by means of a thermal
fuse with certified melting point of 70 C or 72 C ( for
versions with servomotor).
The pre-loaded spring mechanism conforms to standard UNI
103565.
Electrical accessories and remote control
The air seal for cold fumes with 300Pa depression makes it
particularly interesting with the possibility of anticipating the
dampers allows to extend the test result to all the
intermediate sizes, as established by EN 1366-2 (article 6.1).
Again, on the basis of the above standard (article 13.6), the
test results on one type of support (wall or ceiling) are
extended to supports with greater thickness and /or greater
density.
Minimum distances
In cases where two or more dampers are to be installed in
the same wall, a minimum distance of at least 200mm
must be kept between dampers, as established in EN
1366-3 (article 13.5)
For the installation of each damper, a minimum distance
of 75mm will need to be kept from the ceiling, pavement
and side walls, as established by EN1366-2 (article 13.5).
Obligations of the installer
The certification of the fire dampers is strictly linked to the
installation made on the dampers themselves as established
by EN 1366-2 (article 7.1).
The installer is held to observe scrupulously the installation
procedures provided by the manufacturer (both for the
method and the materials to be used) described in the
present technical data sheet and which reflect the
installations made during the fire test.
closure of the damper in relation to the action of heat on the
thermal fuse (which must always be present in any case) by
using an electrical remote control generated from the fire alarm
system or from the smoke detection system.
In fact, in the event of fire, danger to personnel present in the
building derives more frequently from smoke intoxication
rather than heat generated from the fire.
This remote control may be done in different ways:
by adding an electromagnet on the release mechanism, when
the damper closes accidentally (black out, failure, fault in
alarm system), control occurs manually;
by using a servomotor, when reopening the damper as a result
of an accidental closure (black out, failure, fault in alarm
system), control occurs automatically when power is restored.
In any case, the closing of the damper always occurs using a
pretension spring in accordance with UNI 10365 (article 4.1)
therefore guaranteeing the closure in the event of fire even in
the absence of power supply.
Within the limits of 300Pa pressure, the rectangular WK23
fire dampers fitted with servomotor, can therefore also be used
as intercepting dampers.

Rigid vertical walls
EI 120 S
Installation within vertical rigid walls
The WH23 rectangular fire dampers, classified EI 120S within rigid
vertical walls, guarantee insulation to fire and heat up to 120 minutes
only if the installed within walls with a fire resistance classification at
least REI 120 and a minimum thickness of 100mm.
This said, the degree of fire resistance will be that of the wall, being the
weaker of the two.
Lab tests have been carried out with a 100mm thick aerated concrete
blocks with density 550Kg/m. On the basis of EN 1366-2 (article 13.6)
the outcomes of the tests are valid also for wider and/or more dense walls.
The WH23 fire dampers can therefore also be used within brick walls
with a minimum thickness of 100mm.
1. Wall opening
A round opening must be provided in the wall with a diameter 25mm
greater than the nominal diameter of the damper. For concrete
breezeblock or brick walls, it is recommended to use a reinforcing beam
above the opening.
2. Damper positioning
Position the damper so that the side with the closing mechanism
protrudes from the wall by 200mm.
Furthermore, the double test (with mechanism inside and outside the fire
area) has demonstrated that there is no preferential direction of
installation of the damper , nor in relation to the direction of the air flow
in the duct or the side with higher probability of exposure to fire, as
indicated too in EN 1366-2 (article 6.2).
3. Filling
Fill the space around the damper using mortar suitable for wall with fire
resistance class M10 or higher.

classification at least EI 60 and at least 100mm thick.
This said, the degree of fire resistance will be that of the wall, being
the weaker of the two.
Lab tests have been carried out with a wall 100mm thick with two
plasterboard layers each 12.5mm thick and insulated with rock wool
of density 40 Kg/m. On the basis of EN 136-2 (article 13.6) the test
results are extended to walls with greater thickness and/or greater
density.
1. Wall opening
A rectangular opening must be provided in the wall with a perimeter
composed by metal profiles suitable for plasterboard (minimum
thickness 0.6mm) with one side 50mm greater than the nominal
diameter of the damper.
2. Damper positioning
Position the damper so that the side with the closing mechanism

3. Filling
Fill the space around the damper using rock wool with density
100Kg/m.
Cover the rock wool by applying a layer of plasterboard on each face
of the wall, for a total minimum thickness of 12.5mm on each side.
The result must be a frame with a side 215mm greater than the
nominal diameter of the damper.
