LEARN TO SWIM
LEVEL 1 - INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS
For the beginner who is comfortable in the water. Swimmers learn basics
of swimming: bobbing, going under water, supported front and back
foating, supported rolling over from front to back and back to front,
supported gliding, supported futter kick, supported front crawl arms, and
jumping in. Ages 6 - 12 years.

LEVEL 2 - FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS
Swimmers should already be able to foat on front and back and put
head under water. Swimmers will work on: independent front and back
foating , independent rolling over from front to back and back to front,
independent front and back glides, front crawl arms and kicks, back crawl
arms and kicks, retrieving underwater objects, and jumping into water
over their head. Ages 6 - 12 years.

LEVEL 3 - STROKE DEVELOPMENT
Swimmers should already be comfortable swimming front stroke and
swimming on their back. Swimmers will work on: gliding, freestyle with
side breathing, backstroke, breast stroke and dolphin kicks, retrieving
objects in deeper water, treading water, jumping into deep water and
compact dives. Ages 6 - 12 years.

LEVEL 4 - STROKE IMPROVEMENT
Swimmers should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 25 yards.
Swimmers will work on: rotary breathing, freestyle, backstroke, elementary
backstroke, scissors kick and sidestroke, whip kick and breaststroke, intro
to turning at wall, treading water with modifed scissors, and diving in
kneeling position. Ages 6 - 12 years.

LEVEL 5 - STROKE REFINEMENT
Swimmers should already be able to: swim freestyle, breaststroke and
backstroke 25 yards, scissors kick, whip kick, treading water, and dive.
Swimmers will work on: alternate breathing, stride jump, refnement of:
freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke,
dolphin kick and butterfy, open turn on front and back, feet-frst surface
dive, and treading water. Ages 6 - 12 years.

PRESCHOOL SWIMMING
PARENT & CHILD
Designed to give young children a head start on swimming, to get
comfortable in the water and begin to work on basic skills while interacting
with instructor and other children in a fun and safe environment. Parents
and children learn together to increase a childs comfort level in the water
and build a foundation of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements
and breath control. Lessons are fun-flled and help introduce water safety
concepts, encouraging a healthy recreational habit that your entire family
can enjoy. Ages 6 months to 3 years.

WATER SAFETY
AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING
Lifeguard candidates learn the skills and knowledge needed to prevent
and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities
prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to
emergencies, and prevent drownings and injuries. Candidates must be 15
years or older to participate in this program.

BOY SCOUT SWIMMING MERIT BADGE
Scouts who earn this badge will learn about safety when swimming and
diving, how swimming can contribute to overall ftness and health, and
gain some basic competitive swimming skills. Merit badge class taught
by an Eagle Scout.

BOY SCOUT LIFESAVING MERIT BADGE
This program will prepare Scouts to assist those involved in water
accidents, teaching them the basic knowledge of rescue techniques, the
skills to perform them, and the judgment to know when and how to act
so that they can be prepared for emergencies. Merit badge class taught
by an Eagle Scout.

AQUATIC EXERCISE
AI CHI
Ai Chi is a water-based total body strengthening and relaxation
progression that bridges East and West philosophies, and integrates
mental, physical, and spiritual energy. It combines Tai-Chi concepts with
Shiatsu and Watsu techniques, and is performed standing in shoulder-
depth water using a combination of deep breathing and slow, broad
movements of the arms, legs, and torso. The Ai Chi progression moves
from simple breathing, to the incorporation of upper-extremity, trunk,
lower-extremity, and fnally total body involvement. A perfect relaxation
technique for highly stressed, over-challenged clients, and is ideal for
creating improved range of motion and mobility.

LEVEL 6 - SWIMMING & SKILL PROFICIENCY
Swimmers should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 50 yards,
elementary backstroke 25 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, butterfy 25
yards, sidestroke 10 yards, tread water for 3 minutes, and dive. Swimmers
will work on: All six strokes, front and back crawl fip turn, breaststroke
turn, breaststroke speed turn and pullout, butterfy turn, sidestroke turn,
pike and tuck surface dive, pike and tuck dive from board, tread water for
fve minutes, and basic water rescue. Ages 6 - 12 years.

COMPETITIVE SWIM LESSONS
Learn the skills needed to be a competitive swimmer. This program is
meant to provide help with stroke refnement, endurance building,
competitive techniques, and advanced safety skills. Pre-requirements:
ability to complete Level 5 or 6 of the Learn to Swim Program and/or
ability to swim front crawl 50 yards, back crawl 50 yards, breaststroke 25
yards, and butterfy 15 yards. Goggles and swim cap required.

TEEN/ADULT SWIMMING
American Red Cross Adult Swim is intended for teens and adults who
wish to improve their knowledge and skill for many reasons. It may be to
overcome their fear of the water, to learn the basic skills, or to attain a
minimum level of water competency to improve their skill and technique
(either to increase their level of safety to improve their health and ftness
or to perhaps compete in triathlons or to join a Masters team). Ages 13
years+.

Help participants gain basic aquatic skills and swimming strokes. Teach
skills and concepts needed to stay safe in and around water and to help
themselves or others in an aquatic emergency.

Waterworks is a low-impact workout that is fun, challenging, and
effective. It gives you the benefts of both aerobic exercise and strength

This full hour ride provides a great cardio workout designed to challenge
you by incorporating hills, climbs, sprints, and standing climbs. Get your

TAI CHI FOR SENIORS
Tai Chi has been practiced in China for centuries for health, meditation,
and as a martial art. Research has shown that the slow and gentle
movements of Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, strengthen the immune
system, and improve balance reducing the likelihood of falls by up to 40%.
This class is tailored to senior citizens, or those recovering from an injury
or illness. No drop ins.

This low-impact, cardio workout offers a safe and fun workout using

MUSCLE BEACH BOOTCAMP

TAI CHI CHAUN, THE SECRET YANG LONG FORM
Tai Chi Chuan or Taijiquan traditionally has been passed down through
families. Each family would develop a form which is comprised of a
sequence of movements. The Secret Yang Long Form is a form taught
in the inner circle of the Yang Family. This class will be taught in a more
traditional manner with an emphasis on the foundational principles
and basic movements. As the students progress they will be taught
more challenging movements as well as being exposed to the martial
art applications. The class will be taught by Dr. Gregory Borgerson who
learned this form over thirty fve years ago from Hok Hoi Lui.

HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Are you a high school basketball coach and looking to get your team
out on the court this summer? This is the perfect opportunity to do
so. Junior Varsity and Varsity teams are welcome to participate in this
3 week league. Game days will be Mondays Thursdays, June 9 June
27, at either the Y or Bay City Central. $40 per game, payment must
be made by coaches before the start of each weeks games. Teams can
play up to 3 games each night. Coaches can contact Willie Pickvet with

ADULT BASKETBALL LEAGUE - SUMMER
For the second consecutive summer, the Y will be hosting a basketball
league. This 6 week season will start the week of July 14 and end on the
week of August 18. A seeded single elimination postseason tournament
will follow the 6 week season. Register your team early as there are only

EDUCATION & CHILDCARE
The Early Child Curriculum is designed around the Creative Curriculum.
The Creative Curriculum is an educational component with lessons
plans that support each childs physical, intellectual, emotional, social,
and language development.
PRESCHOOL
Our preschool program encourages social, emotional, cognitive, and
physical development in each and every child, using Creative Curriculum
to provide the best foundations for growth. Creative Curriculum is an

development and language development. Children must be potty
trained. Daily snacks are included.

SNOW DAYS AT THE Y
When school is cancelled due to inclement weather, the Y has a place
for your children. Parents can relax and the kids can enjoy snow days

and/or snack, swim suit, and towel. Register now to guarantee a spot.

Pirates Night Out
Friday, July 11 | 6-10pm
Calling all parents! Drop your children off at
the Y for some well-deserved time off. Kids are
encouraged to come dressed like a pirate for there
will be pirate themed games, crafts, and unlimited
pizza for all. Be sure to pack your swimsuit for
there will also be pirate activities in the pool for
those 5 years and older. Children ages 2 months to
12 years welcome.

Fire in the Hole
Cornhole Tournament
Friday, July 11 | 6pm
Test your cornhole skills at our frst Fire-in-the-
Hole cornhole tournament. Prizes will be awarded
to the First and Second place teams in a 48 team
double elimination format. Music, a rum tent,
and food will also be available. Entry fee is $40 per
team and includes $10 in drink tickets. Everyone
is welcome to attend to eat, drink, and cheer on
the players.
Sand Sculpture Competition

Watch as 8 teams of professional sculptors begin
to create spectacular pirate themed masterpieces
from sand.

Put a new twist on family movie night and
join us in the pool for our Pirates on the
Run edition of a Slide-In Movie. Play pirate
themed water games before you watch
Disneys Muppets Treasure Island while
foating down the lazy river or leisure pool.
Please bring your own towel and a small foat.
The pirate pool party begins at 7:00pm and the
movie begins at approximately 7:40pm. All
children must be accompanied by an adult.
