Task III Question 26 (Controlling Idea)
This is a very basic template for the controlling idea paragraph. If you follow it as written, you should be
able to score a 2, provided that your details are specific and focused. You may of course, make
alterations based on your writing style. This is merely meant as a helpful guide for those of you who are
still confused and/or in need of assistance.
**Remember to annotate both passages as you read!**






Good controlling idea checklist:
relevant to the topic
contains ONE main idea
Can be backed up and proven using details from BOTH passages
Makes a definite statement (NO I think)
Is simple and specific
Mentions the topic within the sentence
Task III Question 27 (Literary Elements/Techniques)
1. Review passage you enjoyed
2. Identify an element to talk about that helps the author develop the passage




TIP **Last 3 sentences explain how the element helps develops the passage**
