Anti Bullying Policy

Rationale

Bullying is a behaviour, which affects everyone. It is the deliberate attempt over a period of time by
an individual or group to hurt, torment, tease, frighten or upset someone causing him / her to feel
intimidates, uncomfortable or unhappy in anyway.

Purpose and Aims

1. To establish a supportive, caring and safe learning environment without the fear of being
bullied.

2. To promote the message that bullying is wrong and will not be tolerated.

3. To ensure students are aware that bullying is a form of anti-social behaviour and is not part of
good citizenship.

4. To inform the school community that all forms of bullying will be dealt with firmly, fairly and
promptly.

Guidelines

1. Through the PSE curriculum students will be given the opportunity to learn about bullying and
other forms of unacceptable behaviour.

2. In PSE the students will have the opportunity to express their feelings about bullying for all of
them to feel confident about the school environment and with their peers.

3. There will be an annual awareness raising activities.

4. All teachers should familiarise themselves with the signs of bullying and encourage students’ to
report incidents.

5. All incidents will be promptly investigated and dealt with appropriately.

6. It may be necessary to inform and involve parents.

7. Students will be actively encouraged to become mentors.

Conclusion

Students, staff, parents and governors of Hyde Technology School are committed to eradicating all
forms of bullying within a caring and supportive environment.

Monitoring of Policy

Heads of year will record bullying incidents and a new anti bullying website will be used to monitor.
Assistant Head and Deputy Head (student & staff support) will have overview.
