JOURNAL

Week 10
It had been two month where I have gone through my third phase of practicum.
Honestly, I was happy and grateful for having my year 4 Terbilang for the third phase of
practicum. In term of behaviour, I would say that they were behaving really well for the past
one month. I managed to control the class effectively compared to the previous practicum
session.
Problem
For the 10 week, I discovered that the pupils were still having a difficulty in using the
punctuation correctly. Some of the punctuations are capital letters, full stop, comma and
exclamation mark.
Analysis
Some of the pupils even use capital letters in the middle of the sentences. Besides
that, when looking at their homework and worksheets done in the classroom, I found that
the pupils always forgot to put full stop at the end of the sentences. I need to ring a bell and
tell them to do it in every lesson in order to remind them to put full stop at the end of the
sentences.
Suggestion for improvement
In order to solve the problem, I used one hour lesson in order to brush up their
memory. In the lesson, I only focus on four punctuations which are capital letters, full stop,
comma and exclamation mark. While teaching the pupils, I discovered that they were well
known with the functions of the punctuation. However, they were having a difficulty to use
it correctly when it comes to practice. Thus, I thought them a punctuation song in order to
make them remember and aware of when to use and put the punctuation in sentences.
Then, I also gave them some worksheets to complete in order to let them practice it and get
used to it.
Time duration
I take one hour lesson in order to help the pupils to improve their ability in using the
punctuation correctly. I have done the intervention on 17
th
of February 2014 at 12.15 PM to
1.15 PM.
Further action
If the pupils were still having the problem in using the punctuation correctly, I plan
to produce flashcards and paste it in their classroom with a hope that that will look at it
every day. By looking at it every day in the class, I wish that it can be a reminder for them to
use it correctly.

JOURNAL
Week 11
The eleventh week was an examination week for standard 5 and 6 pupils. In the fifth
week, I only taught my pupils twice as I was in charge to monitor the pupils that sit for the
examination. For the three days, I have changed my timetable with the English head of
panel since she was not in a good shape and has a difficulty to climb the stairs to the class.
Problem
The problem that I encountered for this week was my disability to start my proposal for
action research.
Analysis
Since, it has been about 3 month in the school; I should already have my research topic and
research participants. However, I was still in the air losing my mind on which area or
problem to be chosen for my proposal.
Suggestion for improvement
In order to get some ideas, I met the English head of panel and asked for her opinion
regarding the problem. Since she has been taking my class for three days, she suggested
that I should try to solve the pupils problems in writing sentences. In order to help the
pupils to improve their writing skills, she suggested that I should teach the pupils on how to
write present continuous sentences since it would be less confusing for the pupils to write.
In fact, it can help the pupils to write narrative writing in the future.
Time duration
I met the Head of English Panel on the last day of the week which was on 27
th
of February
2014 at noon.

Further action
In order to teach the pupils on how to write present continuous sentences, I did some
readings on how to teach the structure of a sentence. Based on my reading, I found that
there were some articles suggesting teacher to use coulour code in order to teach the
structure of a sentence. Therefore, I plan to teach my pupils on how to write present
continuous sentences in next weeks lesson. Then, from the lesson, I can find my research
participants who may have problems in writing the sentences.
