Roberts Liardon was born in Tulsa,
Oklahoma *e was born again, bapti<ed
in the *oly Spirit, and called to the
ministry at the age of eight, after being
caught up to *ea8en by the (ord =esus
/oberts was powerfully commissioned
by the (ord to study the li8es of 7od>s
great ?generals?@men and women of faith who were
mightily used by 7od in the past@in order to learn
why they succeeded and why they failed
At age fourteen, /oberts began preaching and teaching
in 8arious churches@denominational and non-
denominational alike@Bible colleges and uni8ersities
*e has tra8eled e1tensi8ely in the United States and
!anada, and his missions outreaches ha8e taken him to
Africa, Aurope and Asia 0any of his books ha8e been
translated into foreign languages
/oberts preaches and ministers under a powerful
anointing of the *oly Spirit +n his sermons, /oberts
calls people of all ages to sal8ation, holiness and life in
the *oly Spirit
Through /oberts> ministry around the world, many
people ha8e accepted 7od>s call to yield themsel8es as
8essels for the work of the Bingdom

1 Time Can Be Your Friend
That he [we no longer should li!e the rest of
his [our time in the flesh to the lusts of men" but
to the will of #od$
1 %eter &'(
;e need to understand as the Body of !hrist, that
7od has a central point from which e8ery arena of our
life operates, whether indi8idually or corporately +t>s
called )time$)
)rom the operation of that one word, li8es can
mo8e forward with 7od or be hinderedC nations can
ad8ance spiritually or regress +t all depends upon our
understanding and cooperation with the timings of
7od One of the greatest needs we seem to ha8e is how
to understand and operate with spiritual timings
As soon as you are born again, the sensiti8ity to
the timings of 7od should operate in your life A8ery
moment from that point forward is meant to be li8ed
according to the will of the )ather
The world has made an attempt to harness time
They ha8e created time-management seminars and
ha8e tried to teach millions how to sa8e time and be
more effecti8e with it + am not against time
management by any means Some ha8e become so
time-consumed, they will e8en allow their 8alues to

Time 'an Be (o&r )riend
deteriorate as long as it sa8es some time
Aarth time usually means ?rush? ;e ha8e fast
food, rush hour traffic, instant this and instant that
People in the natural fight with time +t frustrates them
and produces anger They don>t like the pace of it
They either want things to slow down or to speed up
To the world, time is an enemy
The onl* place that time becomes *our friend is
in the Spirit realm$ People who li8e in the Spirit
know how to work and walk with time
7od introduced *is timing to us in 7enesis
chapter #
+n the beginning #od created the hea!en and
the earth$
#enesis 1'1
That 8erse, the 8ery first in the Bible, points out
7od>s timing A8erything *e did was based on timing
;hen the uni8erse was created, each part of it was
made on a certain day, in a certain time *e formed
e8ery part of the gala1y to operate in *is timings
)irst, *e created the earth and e8erything surrounding
it Then, 7od created all of the plants, fish, animals
and birds )inally, in *is perfect timing, *e created
man At mis point, all of 7od>s creation walked
harmoniously with *im
But in 7enesis chapter 2, man>s timing began
with the )all ;hen man fell, he lost his ability to hear
and follow 7od without a special endowment from
'
%pirit&al Timing
hea8en *e no longer had the ability to operate in
7od>s timing on his own 7eneration after generation
produced only trial and trouble unless 7od inter8ened
All through the Old Testament days, 7od ga8e
information to the people concerning *imself, through
the prophets *e still pro8ided them with the ability to
know *im and ser8e *im The understanding of
spiritual times, e8en in those days, came from being
committed to 7od
One of the things that =esus came and produced
for us at !al8ary was the ability to percei8e and regain
the correct timings of 7od By recei8ing *is
redemption and walking in the Spirit, we can come
back into it ;e can fine-tune our spirits to know when
to be in the right place at the right time, or to stay out
of the right place at the wrong time Through knowing
7od and *is ways, we can build the character within
oursel8es, that will position us strategically in the
proper season
;hen you li8e in the spirit, time is lo8ely Time
is a blessing A Spirit-filled man can walk in step with
7od and work the works of 7od without stress or
strain *e understands time
To a Spirit-filled man, time means stability and
nurturing Time matures and heals +t brings
understanding and abilities Time e1pands and deepens
our insight ;hen we walk with time, we walk with
patience As a result, we ha8e the ability to possess our
whole man, physically, emotionally and spiritually
&
Time 'an Be (o&r )riend
;alking securely in the timing of 7od alle8iates
fear There is no fear or doubt in the proper timing of
7od 7odly timing produces courage, boldness,
security and strength
7od>s clock is always ticking, but it>s not like
man>s clock +f we follow man>s clock, by what some
men say some of us would be in the millennium by

0ob (&'1
=ob is the oldest book in the Bible By reading the
statement he made, we can see the wisdom and
understanding =ob had, e8en in his day *e li8ed long
before 0oses came, and still he knew that those who
truly know 7od know *is ways and *is timing
(ife in the spirit realm has a timing to it Dust as
life in the natural +f you stay close to the (ord, you
will be able to mo8e according to *is seasons
+t is important for us to follow the leading in our
spirit ;e must learn that it>s not always right to mo8e
into action because it seems like the thing to do This
kind of obedience only comes from seasons of prayer
and intercession
Prayer alerts your spirit to the commands of
hea8en +t causes your inner man to take precedence
o8er your mind, resulting in the right action at the right
time

+f you will walk strongly in the Spirit, you>ll be
able to mo8e according to 7od>s clock in e8erything
you do 6ou will know how much time to spend with
certain people, when to build relationships, when to
speak and when to withhold 6ou will know when to
mo8e out on the plan of 7od for your church, your
community and your nation
+n 0ark #5E5#, after much prayer, =esus stood up
and told *is disciples

=esus knew by the timing of the Spirit that *e
was ready to fulfill the greatest work to e8er be done@
the redemption for all mankind at !al8ary
6ou don>t ha8e to miss the correct timings of 7od
in your life Some people miss the accurate time to
enter the ministry They know they are called, but their
time is not yet come because of preparation purposes
and they launch out too soon 0any ha8e aborted their
entire ministries because they were not equipped to
handle the trouble they encountered
The Bible says )a wise man1s heart discerneth
both time and 2udgment) FAccl &E%G ;e must be
able, as the Body of !hrist, to know when to go and
when to stayC when to speak and when to remain silent
+t is our goal to hit accurately the timing of 7od so that
hea8en can reap the benefit of a full and bountiful
har8est +t is the will of 7od that we not only be
sensiti8e to the leadings of the *oly Spirit, but that we

=esus addressed this spiritual principle to his

innumerable multitude of people F8 #G on this

they were li8ing in the time of the 0essiah *e did not

disciples or to a small crowd This was an innumerable
multitude that *e chastised
+ belie8e if =esus were walking on the earth today,
so that all the !hurch could see *im with natural eyes,
*e would be saying something similar to many of us
*e not only wants, but e1pects, those who are faithful
to discern spiritual times
;e li8e in a new day, a new spiritual time ;hen
=esus said, 1let the dead bur* their dead) F(uke
$E4.G, *e meant, ?(et the past be the past? 6ou cannot
make spiritual progress li8ing in past times and mo8es
of 7od any more than you can ha8e growth in your
natural life while li8ing in the past
=esus said to the multitudes that day in 7alilee,
?*ow is it that you know all about the natural side of
life, but you cannot tell what times you are in on the
spiritual sideI?
7od does not li8e in the past +t is always today
with the (ord *e li8es in the now The greatest results
you will ha8e in your life or ministry will come when
you walk in the spiritual time in which you are li8ing,
when you walk in the present anointing
;e are to learn from the past, but we are not to
li8e there ;e are to li8e in the present and lock into
the future
#2
%pirit&al Timing
!hristians must learn to think in the now, or we
will not see 7od>s glory as we should, nor be able to
mo8e with *im when *e mo8es 0any churches
cherish a time in the past so much that they build a
memorial in their minds to it and li8e there The best
way to respect the past is to build on it for the future
The great men and women of the !hurch>s past
would be the first to push us on out today Those
people who laid the path on which we walk would not
be happy to think the !hurch was li8ing on past glories
of what 7od accomplished through them
Of course, we need to honor past men and women
of 7od ;e need to appreciate and learn from what
they accomplished for the Bingdom But we cannot
li8e or mo8e or ha8e our being in what they did, only
in 7od The past reputation of the !hurch, no matter
how great, is not the /ock on which we are to stand
To recei8e today>s blessing, we must mo8e in what *e
is doing today
+t is not the season right now to act like we are
about to lea8e the earth +t is the season to reap the
har8est +t is the season to hear from hea8en so that we
can reap the full potential of souls in all the earth +t is
the season to declare the works of 7od in the nations
+t is the time for the !hurch to regain their sensiti8ity
to repentance
The trumpet has not yet sounded and we are not
in a season to put on the wedding gown ;e are
betrothed, but we are still wearing army clothes
#5
+is*erning Times and %easons
;earing a wedding gown in a season of war and
har8est makes you stand out as an easy target for the
enemy ;e must set oursel8es to hear accurately what
the Spirit of the (ord is doing in the earth today
The subDect of ?warfare? should not make you
ner8ous Those who do not understand the season of
transition get 8ery touchy about spiritual warfare They
do not understand that a time of transition, a day of
8isitation from the (ord, always means spiritual
warfare There is always hard work before the har8est
+n =esus> day, Satan himself came to war against
the 0essiah :emons were stirred up e8erywhere =esus
went +t was a time of transition *e cast them out,
taught *is disciples to cast them out, and then made
deli8erance part of the 7reat !ommission F0ark

?soldiers>>
/e8i8al is in progress worldwide /e8i8al is for
the !hurch, not for sinners +t means ?restoration? and
you cannot restore something that has ne8er been
The Body of !hrist always needs refreshing and
restoration before the great mo8es of e8angelism and
har8est 7od uses those times to prepare the ?soil? in
our hearts before *e gathers in the lost ;e must be
sensiti8e in this time and understand that ?re8i8al? is
not to be confused with ?e8angelism?
(ocal churches are re8i8ed, then they go out and
e8angeli<e, gathering in the har8est A8angelism is the
offspring of a church whose heart has been re8i8ed
#%
%pirit&al Timing
The time of preparation for 7od>s mo8e has been going
on for se8eral years now
+f you are li8ing in the past while hearing the
message for today, the message will not make any
sense to you 6ou will think it is false or confusing,
and you will probably want to come against it@Dust as
the Pharisees did in =esus> day
They were trying to li8e in the past glory of
+srael They had built a memorial to 0oses and the
(aw and were looking backward instead of forward to
the ,ew !o8enant whose time had come
6ou can choose to li8e in any time <one you want
to li8e in as a !hristian 6ou ha8e the choice to li8e in
the past, if you so desire 6ou ha8e the opportunity to
sit by and wait for the coming of the (ord, if you so
decide But to li8e on the cutting edge, to be full and
ali8e with the Spirit of 7od, is to be mo8ing with what
7od is doing in the earth right now@today
The Pharisees did not hear the message
proclaimed in their day Although they were to lead the
people, they did not know the season and timing of
7od
*owe8er, the demons knew the spiritual time
+n 0atthew &E3$, the Apostle relates how =esus
cast a legion of demons out of a ?cra<y? man The
demons talked to =esus
-nd" behold" the* cried out" sa*ing" ,hat
ha!e we to do with thee" 0esus" thou Son of #od/
#4
+is*erning Times and %easons

time/
6ou see, e8en demons are aware that 7od has a
time to do certain things They knew it was not *is
time for them to be shut up fore8er in the lake of fire
:emons who operate in the low, carnal area are
not 8ery intelligent They do not think or reason
*owe8er, those workers for Satan who are part of his
hierarchy@the principalities, powers and rulers of
darkness FAph 4E#3G@know what is going on with the
Bingdom of 7od
+f the de8il, his angels and demons know about
time, then certainly the Body of !hrist should set
themsel8es to know
7ew Testament Transition
The three years that co8ered the ministry of =ohn
the Baptist and =esus, were a time of maDor transition,
from the Old !o8enant to the ,ew That is why =esus>
first@and only@message in *is hometown of
,a<areth made a clear statement of the spiritual season
they were in
88as his custom was" he went into the
s*nagogue on the sabbath da*" and stood up for
to read$
Lu.e &'16
,otice that =esus was accustomed to going into
the synagogue and reading the te1t for the day The
people knew *im This was not the first time *e had
read the scripture +n 8erse #', the Book of +saiah was
#'
%pirit&al Timing

7od arranges situations in *is timing, if we do
not get in *is way This was the 8ery day that 7od had
appointed for =esus to declare to *is family and
neighbors ;ho *e was 7od had witnessed in the
heart of the synagogue leader, to ha8e *im read from
the prophetic Book of +saiah
Because they had known =esus all of *is life, they
got the first chance to hear that the day of 8isitation
was at hand 0any times, when 7od sends a person
out, *e sends them first to their family and friends
So =esus, sensiti8e in *is spirit, followed 7od>s
timing, although *e must ha8e known it would make
the religious crowd angry *is e1ample is what we
must still follow today
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me" because
he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the
poor3
he hath sent me to heal the bro.enhearted"
to preach deli!erance to the capti!es"
and reco!ering of sight to the blind"

Those words were prophetic for the coming
0essiah, and the listeners knew it But they missed
their day of 8isitation because they clung to the past
time of 7od They had grown to understand the past
and were comfortable there
=esus tried to tell them, ?These things were
foretold for a certain day ,ow that day has arri8ed +t
is today? But, they would not hear They could not
sense the appointed time and season of 7od
=ohn the Baptist was also a proclaimer of the
timings of 7od in that day *e saidE

=ohn was aware that he had a work to fulfill
before =esus would come *e knew that his ministry
was going to be short *e did not try to minister, or
e8en to li8e, longer than 7od needed him to ;hen
=esus showed up, =ohn said, )>e must increase" but +
must decrease) F=ohn 2E2.G
=ohn the Baptist did not fight to stay in charge of
the hour *e let =esus take o8er ;e need to ha8e an
awareness not only that times and seasons do change,
but we need to know when they change and whether it
means we are to increase or decrease
#od Changes the Times and Seasons
+n :aniel 3E3#, the Bible says 7od )changeth
the times and seasons$) ;e must become mature
enough in the spirit so that when 7od changes the
times and seasons to which we are accustomed, we do
not get angry or upset ;e must get to the place where
we can see the hand of 7od mo8ing and mo8e with
what *e is doing, not against it
;e cannot change times and seasons ;e cannot
e8en rearrange them ;e cannot hold them still,
because 7od raises up and brings down *e is the One

mature !hristian knows 7od ne8er brings us down@
no matter how it looks *e always brings those who
lo8e and ser8e *im up to a better place
Spiritual >unger
An important characteristic that causes 7od to
take us from one season to another is spiritual hunger
+n =esus> day, Dust as in our day, there were many
that were caught up in a past time But on the other
hand, there were also many who had a dissatisfaction
in their hearts They knew, because of the sensiti8ity to
the things of 7od, that it was time for a change
3#
%pirit&al Timing
There was no longer the peace of relying on the
letter of the law that there had been The desire for the
0essiah to come had intensified in their hearts The
Pharisees also intensely wanted 0essiah to come, but
their desire was in their minds Their ?0essiah? fit
their own scenario and not 7od>s So they missed *im
Today, there is a hunger for the ;ord There is a
hunger for the fullness of the fi8e-fold offices Physical
hunger is one of the most powerful dri8es on the earth,
because it is directly related to sur8i8al of the body +n
the same way, spiritual hunger is one of the most
powerful instincts in the spirit realm because it is tied
to the sur8i8al of our spiritual walk
;hen people are star8ing, they will do things that
otherwise they would not do They will eat things that
in better times would not be acceptable at all
The same is true in spiritual hunger People are
hungry for the written ;ord and for a direct, personal
word from 7od They are so hungry to see 7od mo8e
and the prophetic, that in many places, if they are not
fed, they try to fill their hunger through false
prophecies and false prophets Some are trying to do it
themsel8es, trying to take hold of the prophetic
anointing and they are making big mistakes
A hunger for anything spiritual is a sign that
7od>s time has changed 7od>s answer to the spiritual
cra8ing in the earth today is on its way The truth is
coming in stability and accuracy
As we continue to prepare our hearts, 7od will
33
+is*erning Times and %easons
continue to mature *is leaders and proclaimers By
staying in the ;ord of 7od and prayer, we will
continue to sharpen our sensiti8ity so that we can e1cel
into maturity
The changing of times and seasons is e1citing to
those who are hungry for the Spirit of 7od

%ro!erbs 14'(<
+n this time of spiritual transition, the !hurch
should be seeking 7od to find *is timing The
belie8ers, and particularly those who minister in the
name of the (ord, should find out the times and
seasons, for there are certain times that certain things
are to be spoken
A word spoken out of season brings more
confusion than blessing But a word spoken in season
brings Doy and clarity
+n +saiah %.E5, the prophet saidE
The Lord #od hath gi!en me the tongue of

;e ha8e the ability, by our spirits, to speak the
correct words, at the correct time By speaking the
right words at the right time, it will refresh, rearrange,
and encourage those who hear That is our purpose
6ou see, the right timing of 7od will produce an
35
A Time for -ifts, Re"elation and !ffi*es
atmosphere in which we can release the re8elation
inside of us But if we speak out in the wrong timing,
our words produce a counter-reaction in the hearts and
minds of the people
;hen a re8elation is spoken and deli8ered at the
right time, it spreads like wildfire and goes
e8erywhere 0any people speaking true words from
7od ha8e gone through unnecessary persecution
because the person deli8ering the message didn>t
understand the timing to it A8en a true word, gi8en at
the wrong time, can do much damage
One thing that belie8ers, and in particular, those
in the ministry, must learn, is how to know when a
word is ?in season? So many Dust hear something and
?run with it,? causing a negati8e reaction e8erywhere
they go Those people need an understanding of time
=ust because we ha8e a ?word? doesn>t mean it is to be
deli8ered at that moment
0any belie8ers and ministries li8e in frustration
because they try to analy<e the timing of 7od through
public opinion, intellect or organi<ation As a result,
they wear themsel8es out physically, emotionally and
spiritually The ministry suddenly becomes a dreaded
chore, followed by disillusionment and sin Some ha8e
e8en left the ministry, e1hausted and seared
;e need to know when to mo8e and when to rest

The sign of a mature !hristian is his ability to

characteri<ed by his mistakes with timing That does
not mean he is in deep trouble +t simply means he is in
a learning process
+ remember when + was learning this + would get
a message in my heart and hold it +t was so much
inside of me that + would stand in front of my mirror
and speak it out to myselfH
That is hard 6ou ha8e this strong message inside

?kicking? and mo8ing, and you want it to come forth
and be born 6ou begin to say, ?;hen is it going to be

The unction gi8es you power to speak out the
word of 7od in a high-ranking force +t carries weight
and rearranges the thoughts and the direction we are
walking Our emotions say that an e1hortational
prophecy means ?pat me? But Biblical e1hortation
means to urge, admonish, push on, warn
The Apostle Peter wrote that, in old times, men of

Time for %rophetic -nointing
One of the main reasons we must be sensiti8e to
the timings of 7od is because there is coming the heart
and thrust of e8angelism with a prophetic anointing
To me, the greatest e8angelists + ha8e e8er seen are the
ones with the prophetic anointing They are prophetic
3$

e8angelists They understand the times and seasons of
7od and they also understand the workings of the
prophetic office
+n fact, it is like two streams that are con8erging
together from different directions to form a mighty
ri8er The prophetic stream and the e8angelistic stream
are meeting head on and will merge They will not be
in conflict
+n the latter part of #$&$, the Spirit of 7od began
to bring out of me in prayer a call for the prophetic
e8angelist to come into the earth, to go through the
nations, reaping a har8est by saying and doing things
as 7od directs
+ began to see the prophetic anointing come on
some e8angelists But some that + saw it come upon
tended to be afraid because they were mo8ed to step
out in arenas they were not used to Some things you
learn simply by mo8ing out in faith *owe8er, the
natural side of man always wants to understand what is
happening before stepping out
But one particular e8angelist + saw mo8ed out
with the prophetic anointing, and the manifestation of
7od was so strong it is hard to describe
This e8angelist was sensiti8e to changing and

As this e8angelist preached, + was sitting on the

Soon, people all o8er the room began to weep

All of the fi8e-fold offices are coming into a new
day, and a prophetic anointing is going to rest on all of

:a8id placed himself on a pedestal by refusing to

Although these blessings were gi8en to him by

;alking out from the spiritual timing of 7od is
deadlier than any natural weapon on the battleground
The e8idence of pride has many faces A haughty
attitude is only one sign of it Another is immorality
and uncontrolled desire
The main reason we would knowingly walk out
from the correct timing of 7od is to get our own way
;hen we do not walk in the spirit and our heart is not

knowing any man was left in the city
;hen we are out of the will and tuning of 7od,

Because of his intense pride at that time, it no

:ue to pride searing his conscience from desire, it
didn>t e8en matter that the woman>s husband was one

Sometimes breaking new ground, going where
