Miss Krauses classroom is a friendly and fun environment where all
students are respectful, prepared, hard working, and ready to learn!
Objectives
Throughout the course of the year, students will be able to:
Cope in authentic listening and reading situations
Communicate effectively in written and verbal language
Display appropriate social functions of language
Use appropriate vocabulary and grammar
Respond appropriately and effectively to a variety of listening
situations
Analyze and respond to a variety of text
Language Practice
To become the best English speakers they can possibly be, students
will practice the four language domains of listening, speaking,
reading, and writing.
Listening: Students will listen to English from native speakers,
their teachers, media sources, and their friends to gain and
practice comprehension and response skills.
Speaking: Students will practice speaking by answering
questions, reading aloud, offering comments, and by having
conversations will their classmates. Students will use both
academic and social language to complete these speaking
tasks.
Reading: Students will practice reading a variety of literature,
both fiction and non-fiction.
Writing: Students will practice writing in a variety of ways.
Students will write journal entries, descriptions, personal
narratives, and reflections.
Homework
Students should anticipate 30 minutes of homework a night.
Homework is graded for completion and effort.

Grades are based on percentages.
A = 90-100 (Excellent)
B = 80-89 (Good)
C = 71-79 (Satisfactory)
D = 68 - 70 (Needs Improvement)
F = Below 68 (Unsatisfactory)
Grading Policy

Homework: 10%
Projects: 20%
Classwork/Participation: 40%
Tests and Quizzes: 30%

First Quarter Schedule
Week 1:Identifying nouns (singular, plural, possessive, common, proper)
Week 2: Identifying verbs (present tense)
Week 3: Identifying verbs (present and past tense)
Week 4: Identifying verbs (present, past, and future)
Week 5: Writing sentences (parts of a sentence)
Week 6: Writing sentences (punctuation and capitalization)
Week 7: Sequencing words and events
Week 8: Adjectives and description
Week 9:Writing and telling stories with nouns, verbs, adjectives
