Using SMA Tripower inverters in PV*SOL

The Tripower inverters from SMA feature two separate MPP tracker inputs ("A" and
"B").

When designing in PV*SOL, a number of factors must therefore be taken into
consideration:

At input A, up to
4 (Sunny Tripower 8000TL/10000TL/12000TL) or
5 strings (Sunny Tripower 15000TL/17000TL)
may be connected.

One string can be connected at input B.

Please note:
if connecting more than two strings at input "A", input "B" must be occupied
with one string!
In addition, the following requirements for the connected modules apply for input A:
same type
same number
identical orientation
identical inclination

In the following, the use of a Sunny Tripower 15000TL inverter is shown with an
example system:
The desired PV array peak power is 14.40 kW.

Illustration 1: Schematic of the example system

60 SOLON Black 230/02 modules (240 W),
Input A: 2 strings with 24 modules each (11.52 kW)
Input B: 1 string with 12 modules (2.88 kW)
Input A is defined in PV*SOL with its type designation (Sunny Tripower 15000TL).
The second MPP tracker (input B) is stored in the database as Sunny Tripower
Extraeingang (the same for all models).

Configuring the inverters for the example system

Please configure the DC and AC power rating and the max. AC power of the second
MPP tracker (Sunny Tripower Extraeingang) in accordance with the desired PV
power.

Example system:

12 SOLON Black 230/02 modules (240W) = 2.88 kW, => 3 kW

Page 4

Then lower the power rating of the main device (Sunny Tripower 15000TL) by the
power installed at input B.

Example system:

DC power rating 15.34 kW 3 kW = 12.34 kW
AC power rating 15.00 kW 3 kW = 12.00 kW

2D system planning

In the system planning without 3D visualization, a second sub-array must be defined
for the modules connected to the second MPP tracker.

Illustration 5: Selecting a second sub-array in the system configuration

Page 6

Define sub-array 1 as input A with 2 strings of 24 modules each (11.52 kW) and, for
the inverter, select the Sunny Tripower 15000TL_12kW previously configured in the
database.

Then define sub-array 2 as input B with 1 string of 12 modules (2.88 kW) and, for the
inverter, select the Sunny Tripower Extraeingang_3kW previously configured in the
database.

3D system planning

The planning of the PV system in the terrain and building view and of the module
coverage is carried out in the usual way.

When configuring the modules, in the configuration selection window use the limit
inverter selection option. Now limit the inverter selection to the previously configured
Sunny Tripower 15000TL_12kW and Sunny Tripower Extraeingang_3kW.

Then select the suitable configuration (see example system) from the suggested
module/inverter configurations.

The example system is now configured in line with the set parameters.
