An early Georgian wing chair with an elaborately shaped
wing, at scrolled arms and a loose seat. While the legs are
of the cabriole type, the carving is unusual and complex
incorporating both a heart motif at the knee and multiple
spiral volutes. Padded feet.
The original resides in the Joseph Manigault House, an
example of superb Federal architecture. Joseph Manigault
was a wealthy plantation owner and statesman. The house
holds an impressive collection of English and French period
furniture.
