INT. ARTHURS PARENTS HOUSE - NIGHT
SUPER: Eustis, Nebraska, 1993.
ARTHUR GRAHAM (11) stands at the window of his family home
watching his drunken father, GEORGE GRAHAM (33) stumble up to
the front door holding a garden shovel. He slams at the door
with the shovel.
CAROLINE GRAHAM (30) and SUZIE GRAHAM (8) are seated behind
him. Caroline is visibly bruised.
CAROLINE
Dont let him in Arthur!
Arthur runs to the front door and pushes his back against it
as his father tries to enter the house.
GEORGE
Let me in you son of a bitch.
ARTHUR
No Dad.
Arthur holds the door closed with all of his strength.
George overpowers him easily.
Arthur looks at his mother crying in terror. He spies a boot
hook on the entryway settle bench.
He releases the door as George pushes it open and enters the
house. Arthur turns to face his drunken enraged father.
Suzie runs over from the couch and stops in front of Arthur.
SUZIE
Leave my mother alone!
George takes a heavy swing at Suzie sending her flying.
Suzie hits her head against the wall and breaks her neck. She
lies broken and lifeless on the floor in front of him.
CAROLINE
George! NO!

hook off the settle bench, reaches back strong, and slices at

and hands it to Caroline.
ARTHUR
Yes Momma.

Oh my - You are too kind.

NANCY
Hello Arthur - how are you today?

something - important.
ARTHUR
Oh, well, you know - I'm just

Arthur removes his headset.

office who may have had a problem
with Mr. Brewster?
Arthur winces.
DANIELS (CONTD)
Are you all right Mr. Graham?
ARTHUR
Yes, just a little headache. No big
thing.
DANIELS
Maybe you should see a doctor.
INT. WAITING ROOM - DAY
Arthur sits smiling in a crowded waiting room full of
miserable people: crying babies, arms in makeshift slings, a
woman in the corner holds a bag to her mouth as she vomits
into it.
RALPH WHITE (early 80s) sits down next to Arthur. Ralph tries
to make small talk with Arthur as he tries to read a Surfer
magazine.
RALPH
You surf?
ARTHUR
Oh - ah. No.
RALPH
You should have seen me shred the
Rincon in my day.
ARTHUR
Is that so?
A Female Nurse approaches Arthur and Ralph. Arthur puts his
magazine down and stands up to leave.
7.
5/26/14
NURSE
Mr. Simmons?
ARTHUR
Oh - ah - no. Sorry.
Arthur sits back down, clearly disappointed.
RALPH
Bugs.
ARTHUR
What?
RALPH
Thats my business - Bugs.
ARTHUR
I didnt ask.
RALPH
Got any pests that need
exterminating at your place?
ARTHUR
Oh, well, I dont know - maybe.
RALPH
Ill come over and do an evaluation
for you.
Arthur grabs his temples.
ARTHUR
I dont like to have visitors.
RALPH
There wont be any charge. Im
retired now - but I can take care
of you.

and looks through it.
He hears a knock at the door and awkwardly replaces the
scope.
DR. NUTTERED (early 50s) opens the door and enters.
DR. NUTTERED
Whats troubling you today?
ARTHUR
I keep getting these horrible pains
in my head - They come and go.
Dr. Nuttered immediately performs a regular exam as he
questions Arthur: he looks into Arthurs eyes, nose, ears,
and throat and checks his reflexes.
DR. NUTTERED
How long has this been going on?
ARTHUR
About a week.
DR. NUTTERED
How long do they last?
ARTHUR
Not long - actually, Im not sure.
Sometimes I forget.
DR. NUTTERED
Are you taking any medication for
these headaches?
ARTHUR
No.
DR. NUTTERED
Im going to prescribe a migraine
medication.
Dr. Nuttered writes Arthur a prescription and hands it to
him.
DR. NUTTERED (CONTD)
There can be some strange side
effects.
9.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
And if they dont help?
DR. NUTTERED
Lets try the medication and see
what happens.
Dr. Nuttered exits the exam room.
Arthur gets dressed. As he pulls up his pants HIS WALLET
FALLS TO THE FLOOR, UNNOTICED.
INT. PHARMACY - DAY
Arthur stands in line waiting to pick up his medication.
Ralph appears behind him in line.
RALPH
You know, bugs arent the only
uninvited guests you might have to
fight off. There could be rats,
mice, opossums, gophers, snakes...
Arthur is suddenly struck again by another sharp pain.
RALPH (CONTD)
You OK mister?
ARTHUR
I think I just need my medication.
Arthurs pain is so great that he buckles to one knee.
RALPH
I can help you son.
Ralph tries to help him up. Arthur pushes him away.
ARTHUR
LEAVE ME ALONE!
A female Pharmacist approaches Arthur and walks him to the
counter. She takes his prescription and goes to fill it.
Arthur looks back at the line of waiting customers staring
back at him.
Ralph smiles at Arthur. He turns away.
10.
5/26/14
PHARMACIST
Here you are sir. That will be ten
dollars.
Arthur reaches to his back pocket for his wallet. He checks
his other pockets. Nothing.
ARTHUR
Im sorry. I must have dropped my
wallet somewhere. Ill be back -
Thanks.
Arthur turns to leave and exits the pharmacy.
PHARMACIST
Next! May I help you sir?
RALPH
Yes, please.
The Female Nurse approaches the Pharmacist from behind the
counter holding Arthurs wallet.
NURSE
Arthur Graham left his wallet in
the exam room.
RALPH
I know Arthur. I can take that to
him.
The Nurse looks at the Pharmacist, shrugs her shoulders, and
hands Arthurs wallet over to Ralph.

RALPH
Im here to exterminate.
Ralph hands Arthur his business card.
INSERT BUSINESS CARD: Widowmaker Pest Control.
ARTHUR
What?
Arthur drops the cards as Ralph walks past Arthur and into
the house uninvited.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
How did you...
Ralph presents Arthurs wallet to him.
RALPH
You left this at the doctors
office.
Ralph turns away and gets right to work.
Arthur leaves the door open.
RALPH (CONTD)
You just dont know what kind of
pests could be invading your home
right now. You might even have a
raccoon living in your fireplace.
ARTHUR
Id like you to please leave now.
RALPH
Oh, this will just take a minute.
You dont want those bed bugs
crawling all over you in your sleep
now do you?
ARTHUR
GET OUT OF MY HOUSE...
Arthur collapses to the floor.
Ralph tries to help him.
RALPH
Oh son, you need your medication.
Here, take some of mine.
12.
5/26/14
Ralph produces a bottle of pills. He opens the cap and takes
two out for Arthur. Ralph hands Arthur the pills.
Arthur places his hands on Ralphs shoulder, trying to get
his balance to stand up. He grabs Ralphs head, twists, and
breaks Ralphs neck.
Nancy walks up to the door from outside the house.
NANCY
I hope you are ready to... Oh my
God, Arthur!
ARTHUR
I tried to keep him out, but he
came in anyway.
INSERT: Arthur RIPS, WADS, and TOSSES his yellow pad note.
INT. ARTHURS HOUSE - NIGHT
The scene rewinds.
RALPH
Oh, this will just take a minute.

Arthur opens his eyes and smiles. He sings to himself as he
proceeds through his morning routine.
He repeats his routine of pulling back the shower curtain and
smiling at himself in the mirror multiple times.
INT. COLLECTIONS OFFICE - DAY
Arthur and Nancy stand with a large group of employees
listening to their Supervisor address them.
Daniels stands with the Supervisor.
SUPERVISOR
Listen everybody, I know this week
has been difficult with Stanley
missing and the police conducting
their investigation. Detective
Daniels here assures me that he
will be wrapping up shortly. In the
mean time, I have noticed that many
of you have been spending more and
more time talking with clients,
which means we can assist fewer
clients throughout the day. Id
like to encourage you all to
shorten the duration of your client
interaction to only the essential
time needed to fulfill their
requests. OK? Have a nice day
everyone.
The crowd breaks up.
Arthur and Nancy return to their cubicles and get back to
work.
Daniels approaches Nancy at her cubicle. Nancys cubicle
lacks any type of color or inspiration; it is dark and
dreary.
NANCY
May I help you Detective?
DANIELS
What was your relationship with
Stanley Brewster?
14.
5/26/14
NANCY
I hardly knew him.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
Arthur and Nancy read the menu board above the register.
NANCY
What do you want to drink Arthur?
ARTHUR
I'm a coffee virgin.
OLIVIA CARTER (middle/late 20s) cuts in to their
conversation.
OLIVIA
Well then you'll love my special.
Arthur and Nancy look down from the menu board to reveal
Olivia.
Arthur is stunned with Olivias beauty.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
It's our latest invention: steamed
soy, no caff, no whip, no froth, no
pump latte.
NANCY
That sounds like nothing but hot
milk.
ARTHUR
I'll take one!
Olivia picks up a coffee cup and black marker.
OLIVIA
OK, sounds good. What's your name
handsome?
ARTHUR
Ar, ahem, Art
NANCY
It's Arthur. I'll have a Carmel
Macchiato, please.
15.
5/26/14
Olivia draws a sunshine and little flowers all over Arthurs
cup. She picks up a second cup for Nancy but only writes the
drink order on it.
OLIVIA
All right. So one Carmel Macchiato,
and one special. Coming right up.
Arthur and Nancy turn around, find a table, and sit down.
He does not take his eyes off of Olivia.
NANCY
Arthur. What are we going to do?
ARTHUR
Do about what?
NANCY
You know what! Im freaking out.
ARTHUR
Relax. I dont think theres
anything to worry about.
NANCY
Seriously Arthur.
ARTHUR
Look, I havent won Friendliest
CSR for the last six years in a
row by killing the customers...
Olivia brings their drinks to the table.
Arthur smiles at her and continues to watch her as she walks
away.
Olivia looks over her shoulder at Arthur.
Arthur turns his attention back to Nancy.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
...call when the job is done. This
is a difficult business. Sometimes
people just need the assistance of
a real human being.
NANCY
Kill the call?
16.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
You know how it works. If you need
help, Im always there for you,
just like youre always there to
help me, no matter what the
situation.
NANCY
Arthur, are you feeling OK?
ARTHUR
Forget about it - I already have.
Arthurs focus turns back to Olivia working the counter.
NANCY
She likes you.
ARTHUR
Who? What?
NANCY
The barista - What is her name -
Olivia?
ARTHUR
Ah - well - I. You know it's late -
we should be getting back to the
office.
Arthur and Nancy collect their things. They keep their coffee
cups as they move to exit the Coffee House.
Arthur continues to watch Olivia.
Olivia smiles at Arthur.
EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY
Arthur and Nancy walk back to work.
NANCY
Don't you want to have a
girlfriend?
ARTHUR
I have Harry to keep me company.
NANCY
That's not the same as having a
relationship.
17.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Exactly. Relationships can be so -
messy.
Arthur flinches.
NANCY
How was your doctor appointment
yesterday?
ARTHUR
He gave me a prescription. I have
to pick it up.
NANCY
What does he think is wrong with
you?
ARTHUR
Doesnt know for sure.
The two walk a few more steps.
NANCY
How are you always in such a good
mood?
ARTHUR
My mother taught me.
INT. ARTHURS HOUSE - NIGHT
Arthur sits on the couch with Harry. He watches an online
video on his phone as he writes down notes on a yellow pad.
VIDEO GURU
So you want to have a girlfriend?
Think youve found that special
someone, but cant figure out how
to get their attention? Ok guys,
just follow these three simple
steps. First, be confident. Women
love a confident man. Dont lie or
pretend your someone else. Be sure
of who you are. Second, be
charming. Remember to compliment
her often. Women love to hear how
pretty they are, and if they have a
special skill, tell them how much
you appreciate it. Finally, its
time to ask her out.

EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY
Arthur and Nancy walk to the Coffee House
ARTHUR
Olivia gave me her number and asked
me to pick her up at 7:30.
NANCY
OK.
ARTHUR
Well, the car wouldn't start. I
sent her a text message - but I
never got to her house. Then I lost
my phone and I haven't talked to
her since.
NANCY
I know that we are helping each
other, but... this needs to stop.
ARTHUR
Havent you ever been in love?
NANCY
Isn't it a bit early to be talking
love? You havent even had one
successful date?
ARTHUR
I suppose so.
The two stop outside in front of the Coffee House.
NANCY
Listen to me Arthur - women are
sensitive. You have to attend to
our needs. If you slight us, we
will hunt your down and kill you,
dead. If you want a second chance
with Olivia, then go in there right
now and apologize for standing her
up. Im not helping you anymore.
Arthur heads inside the Coffee House while Nancy looks on
from outside.
29.
5/26/14
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
Olivia watches Arthur enter the Coffee House through the
front glass doors. Nancy is visible watching from outside.
OLIVIA
What can I get for you today
Arthur?
ARTHUR
Olivia, I'm so sorry about Friday
night. You have no idea.
OLIVIA
Oh, I have a pretty good idea of
what it feels like to wait around
all night for you to show up.
ARTHUR
I sent you a text message.
OLIVIA
Yea, that your car wouldn't start
and that you would try another way.
ARTHUR
Another way? No - I wrote another
day.
OLIVIA
Oh really? I kept your text - Look
here.
Olivia pulls out her cell phone and shows Arthur. His text
message says another way.
ARTHUR
That's weird. I swear I typed
another day. Stupid auto correct.
OLIVIA
Yea, except that after that you
didn't return a text or call all
weekend!
ARTHUR
I lost my phone after I sent you
that text. Olivia I am so sorry.
Please can we try again?
Olivia notices Nancy watching them.
30.
5/26/14
Nancy turns away.
OLIVIA
What about your work buddy?
ARTHUR
I want to date you Olivia. Please?
OLIVIA
OK. Joes on Victoria. Tonight at 7
PM. Dont be late.
ARTHUR
Ill be 15 minutes early.
OLIVIA
You better be.
Olivia smiles. She writes her phone number on a paper coffee
cup again.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
This latte's on me. What's her
drink again?
Olivia indicates Nancy waiting outside.
ARTHUR
Oh, ah. Something with coffee in it
I think.
The two share a laugh.
OLIVIA
I'll make her something special.
Olivia stands behind the coffee machine where Arthur cannot
see her. She writes something on Nancy's cup, then covers the
message up with an insulation sleeve.
She pours both drinks and hands them to Arthur.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Text me when you get your new
phone!
ARTHUR
I will. See you tonight.
Arthur exits the Coffee House.

Ah, yea - sure - Red please.
Thanks.
He leaves two menus on the table.
Olivia appears as the waiter leaves the table. She is
stunningly beautiful. Edgy, but discreet and very stylish.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
You look amazing.
OLIVIA
Should have seen me on Friday -
Just kidding - Did you order me a
glass of wine?
ARTHUR
Waiter!
The Waiter arrives back at the table.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
A glass of -
OLIVIA
Red.
ARTHUR
- wine for the lady please.
The Waiter leaves the table.
OLIVIA
So - Arthur.
ARTHUR
Yes?
OLIVIA
Tell me about yourself. What makes
you - different?
Arthur experiences a sudden sharp pain in his temple.
32.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Sorry - Small headache - Did I
mention that I love that dress.
OLIVIA
Thanks. I made it myself.
ARTHUR
Was it difficult?
OLIVIA
No. Just took time - and patience.
The Waiter returns to fill Olivia's wine glass.
WAITER
May I take your order?
OLIVIA
I'll take the veal with spinach
noodles and a Caesar salad.
ARTHUR
I'll... have the same. And another
glass of wine.
A jazz band quietly plays music.
OLIVIA
Hey, theyre not bad.
ARTHUR
I love Sinatra.
OLIVIA
Me too.
ARTHUR
Whats your favorite song?
OLIVIA

from the Waiter's arm into his own lap.
OLIVIA
(laughing)
Oh, no Arthur.
ARTHUR
What the hell! Why dont you watch
what you are doing!
Olivia recoils slightly at Arthurs outburst.
OLIVIA
Just forget about it Arthur.
ARTHUR
Im covered in chocolate!
The Waiter tries to help Arthur clean up.
WAITER
Im am so sorry sir. Please let me
get you a fresh desert.
The waiter leaves. Arthur recovers and then refocuses on
Olivia.
ARTHUR
Can I tell you the truth?
OLIVIA
I hate liars.
34.
5/26/14
The waiter returns with a fresh cannoli and the bill.
ARTHUR
I haven't had a girlfriend in a
really long time - like ever.
OLIVIA
Am I your girlfriend?
ARTHUR
I'd like you to be.
Arthur places his credit card in the bill holder.
The waiter takes the bill holder to run the card.
OLIVIA
Come home with me tonight.
ARTHUR
I want to - take this slowly.
OLIVIA
Youre sweet. I have Saturday off,
is that slow enough for you?
Arthur playfully pretends to check his calendar on his new
phone.
ARTHUR
Saturday sounds great.
OLIVIA
Good. I am cooking you dinner at my
house - 7 PM sharp.
ARTHUR
Ill be there.
OLIVIA
Walk me out?

Arthur follows him out, leaving the front door partially
open.
EXT. ARTHURS HOUSE - NIGHT
Arthur chases Harry around to the back of the house.
The Waiter, carrying a to-go box of food, walks up to

to return this to you and apologize
again for ruining your shirt. I
brought you a -
Arthur grabs his head with one hand and collapses. The Waiter
drops the credit card and moves to help Arthur.

ARTHUR
I need my medication. Its over on

Arthur stands back up behind the waiter, his face
expressionless, the shovel in his hand.
37.

Arthur stabs at the waiter with the handle of the shovel and
drives it through his chest. The Waiter falls to the ground,
dead.
Arthur reaches for his cell phone and makes a call.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
I need you.
NANCY (O.S.)
Arthur, no. Please.
INSERT: Arthur RIPS, WADS, and TOSSES his yellow pad note.

Arthur moves towards his cell phone and picks it up.
38.
5/26/14
On the phone is a text from Olivia: Had a great time last
night. Looking forward to Saturday. Beware of waiters bearing
cannolis! LOL.
Arthur responds: Can't wait 2 cu again.
He notices the food container on the coffee table.
INT. DONUT SHOP - DAY
Arthur stands in line waiting to order. Daniels is in line
ahead of him. Arthur yawns loudly.
Daniels turns at the noise and sees Arthur.
DANIELS
Late night?
ARTHUR
Oh, good morning Detective. Yea - I
had a date.
DANIELS
Oh, I see.
ARTHUR
It wasn't like that.
DANIELS
That's just fine Mr. Graham.
ARTHUR
We had an amazing dinner at Joe's
on Victoria.
DANIELS
I love their cannolis.
The Detective turns away and steps up to order.
Arthur looks around. He sees Nancy sitting at a table eating
a donut. He smiles and waves.
The Detective receives his order and turns back to Arthur.
DANIELS (CONTD)
Be careful out there.
ARTHUR
Always am!
39.
5/26/14
Daniels exits the donut shop.
Arthur places his order.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
Id like a bear claw please.
An attendant brings him a bear claw. Arthur gives her two
dollar bills. He turns and joins Nancy at her table.
NANCY
Why are you talking to him?
ARTHUR
He likes cannolis.
NANCY
Arthur, I cant take anymore of
this.
ARTHUR
Ill finish that for you.
NANCY
What? No. Look. That waiter may
have been clumsy, but -
ARTHUR
Wait, how did you -
NANCY
I eat at Joes every Monday night.
I gave the waiter your address so
he could return your credit card.
Arthur has another stabbing pain. He grabs his head and
massages his temples.
ARTHUR
Ah, thanks - I guess.
NANCY
Olivia -
Arthurs phone rings. He checks the caller I.D.
ARTHUR
Thats her now. Just a second.
Arthur gets up and exits the donut shop to take the call

40.
5/26/14
As soon as hes out of sight, Nancy exits the donut shop.
Arthur does not see her leave.
INT. DETECTIVE DANIELS OFFICE - DAY
Daniels is sitting at his desk reviewing the missing persons
cases. They include folders and snapshots of Stanley, Ralph,
and the Bus Driver.
The rape victims folders are now set to the side of his
desk.
Lieutenant Rodgers walks in with another folder and snapshot.
LIEUTENANT
Got another MP for you. Early
twenties, male. Didn't come home
from work.
Lieutenant flops a folder down onto Daniels desk.
Daniels looks over the information as the Lieutenant
continues his description.
LIEUTENANT (CONTD)
Last person to see him was his boss
at Joe's on Victoria.
Daniels quickly looks up at Lieutenant.
DANIELS
Thanks Lieutenant.
Daniels returns to the missing persons folders and reviews
the addresses.
Daniels charts the last known locations of the victims on the
computer, then adds Arthur's home address.
DANIELS (CONTD)
Mr. Graham?
Daniels picks up his phone and calls Candice Kane, the
evidence technician.
DANIELS (CONTD)
Candice. Could you please run a
criminal history on Mr. Arthur
Graham. He works locally for a
collections agency.
41.
5/26/14
CANDICE (O.S.)
Give me a few days.
DANIELS
Thanks.
Daniels sits thinking for a moment. He checks the time.
INT. ARTHUR'S HOUSE - NIGHT
Harry, is scratching on the door to the guest bathroom.
Arthur enters the house from the front door. He drops his
things down and flops onto the couch.
The to-go container is still sitting on the coffee table.
His eyes are droopy and he is about to fall asleep.
A loud knock on the door that jars him.
Arthur looks towards the door. He rubs his temple. He gets
up, moves to the door, and opens it up.
DANIELS
May I come in?
ARTHUR
Ah, sure - I just got home. But
sure.
Daniels moves into the house, looking around cautiously. The
house is perfectly clean and organized.
DANIELS
Smells like something died in here.
Arthur sniffs the air.
ARTHUR
Must be the kitty litter. I haven't
cleaned it in a few days.
DANIELS
I came to talk to you about another
missing persons case. Actually, a
couple of them.
ARTHUR
OK.
42.
5/26/14
DANIELS
First, a young waiter at the
restaurant you ate at on your date.
Daniels pulls out a snapshot of the Waiter to show Arthur.
Arthur flinches.
ARTHUR
Just a minute Detective.
He exits to the kitchen.
Daniels listens carefully to Arthurs activity. He examines
the room from his standing position. He notices the to-go
container on the coffee table.
Arthur returns to the living room.
DANIELS
Do you recognize this man?
ARTHUR
That was our waiter.
DANIELS
He never made it home from work.
ARTHUR
Pity.
DANIELS
What about this woman?
Daniels pulls out a snapshot of the Bus Driver.
ARTHUR
Ah - no. I don't think so.
DANIELS
She drove the bus that stops across
the street from here. Her bus was
found empty late Friday night.
There was blood everywhere, but no
body.
Arthur tries to shake off his headache.
ARTHUR
Horrific.
Daniels pulls out a snapshot of Ralph.
43.
5/26/14
DANIELS
Finally, this man. He's been
missing since last week as well.
Arthurs pain is so intense that he has to pause a moment and
grab his head.
ARTHUR
What a shame.
DANIELS
You don't mind if I look around the
house a little bit, do you?
ARTHUR
Actually - I do. I told you I just
got home. I'm very tired and I have
a brutal headache.
DANIELS
I could return with a search
warrant.
ARTHUR
Im not trying to be difficult
Detective - Im just exhausted. So
if it's all the same to you,
perhaps another time.
DANIELS
OK then - Another time. Do you mind
if I use your rest room before I
leave.
ARTHUR
No! I mean, yes. Ah, its a mess.
I'm remodeling it right now. Sorry.
The two men stare each other down.
DANIELS
In that case - Ill be in contact
with you soon to make an
appointment. OK?
Arthur walks Daniels to the door.
ARTHUR
Thank you Detective. Have a nice
evening. Bye now.
44.
5/26/14
Arthur closes the door behind Daniels. He then leans back
against the closed door.
EXT. ARTHUR'S HOUSE - NIGHT
Daniels walks down the front steps.
He stops when he sees Arthur's credit card lying in the
grass. He pulls out an evidence bag, picks up the credit card
with the bag, seals it, and places it into his pocket.
He looks towards Arthur's car. The suspension is sagging.
He walks over to the car and looks around. He smells a
strange odor. He sees large stains on the driveway beneath
the vehicle. He returns to his vehicle.
Arthur watches from inside his home as Daniels drives away.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - EVENING
Arthur is seated at a table eating a sandwich.
Olivia is sitting with him while on her break.
OLIVIA
Were you an accounting major?
ARTHUR
Journalism.
OLIVIA
Really?
ARTHUR
Yea. Im an excellent editor.
OLIVIA
Then how did you end up working in
collections?
ARTHUR
I needed a job to stay in town - I
took the first one I could get, and
just stayed on. How about you?
OLIVIA
I grew up in the Valley.
45.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Like, oh my God?
OLIVIA
I hated it. Once I turned 18 I
jumped on a bus and headed north to
visit my aunt and uncle. I loved it
so much here that I decided to get
a job and find my own place.
Olivia checks the time on her phone.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Ive got to get back to work.
ARTHUR
Hey, is there anything I can bring
to dinner?
OLIVIA
Girls love flowers.
Olivia gets up from the table, gives Arthur a kiss, and
returns to work.
INT. COLLECTIONS OFFICE - DAY
Nancy is seated at her cubicle when Arthur comes to visit
her.
NANCY
What is it Arthur?
ARTHUR
I need your help.
NANCY
I told you no.
ARTHUR
Olivia is cooking me dinner at her
place on Saturday.
NANCY
That will be interesting.
ARTHUR
Right. But I dont want to show up
empty handed. I just dont know
what to bring.
46.
5/26/14
NANCY
Hmm - Well, wine would be a good
start. You could also bring her a
small gift. Do you know what she
likes to do in her spare time?
ARTHUR
She likes to draw.
NANCY
There you go.
ARTHUR
Thanks! Youre a real life saver!
NANCY
You have no idea.
INT. SHOPPING MALL - DAY
Arthur strolls into a clothing store. He looks through the
shirt rack. He picks up a plain black T-shirt and purchases
it.
He walks into a fine wine shop and searches for a bottle of
wine. He finds a bottle and purchases it.
He walks into an art supply store. He picks out a new sketch
book and some soft pencils. Arthur purchases these items and
exits the building.
INT. HALLWAY OF OLIVIA'S APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT
Arthur steps up to Olivia's apartment door. He holds flowers.
He knocks.
Olivia opens the door. She wears a stunning, short, homemade
evening dress. Her hair and makeup are beautiful and edgy.
OLIVIA
Hey there handsome, come on in.
INT. OLIVIA'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Arthur enters the apartment and hands Olivia the flowers.
ARTHUR
These are for you.
47.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
Thank you - They are beautiful.
ARTHUR
These too.
Arthur hands Olivia the new art supplies.
OLIVIA
Wow, thanks. This is awesome!
Olivia exits to the kitchen with the gifts.
Arthur looks around the one-bedroom apartment. The living
room is decorated with framed concert posters: The Clash, The
Who, Johnny Lee Hooker, Ben Folds Five, Grateful Dead, Alanis
Morissette, Dave Matthews Band, The Smiths, and others.
Her furniture is all second hand and mismatched, but
comfortable.
Olivia returns with the flowers in a vase and places it on
the coffee table.
ARTHUR
Your concert posters are amazing.
OLIVIA
I've been collecting them for a
long time. I love these artists.
They are so authentic.
Olivia sits next to Arthur.
ARTHUR
Authentic. Yea, that's what I was
thinking.
OLIVIA
I like music that challenges me.
ARTHUR
What's for dinner? It smells
amazing.
OLIVIA
I made seared Ahi with shitake-miso
rice and cucumber slaw.
ARTHUR
Wow - Oh, here. Wine.
48.
5/26/14
Arthur hands the bottle over to Olivia.
OLIVIA
It's perfect. I'll be right back.
Olivia exits again to the kitchen.
Arthur notices a picture of Olivia with two older adults.
ARTHUR
You look just like her.
OLIVIA
(from the kitchen)
Thats my aunt. My mom died when I
was three. My father was driving
drunk and wrapped the car around a
tree. I was in the system for 15
years.
ARTHUR
The system?
Olivia returns from the kitchen with a bottle opener and two
wine glasses. She opens the bottle and pours two glasses of
wine.
OLIVIA
Foster families. I got a new one
every few months.
ARTHUR
That must have been confusing.
OLIVIA
Sort of hard to trust people when
Mom and Dad change with the zip
code.
ARTHUR
I can only imagine.
OLIVIA
Not every foster house was a happy
home either. Know what I mean? I
lost my innocence in more ways then
one pretty early - but I learned
how to protect myself.
ARTHUR
What about your father?
49.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
He was an addict. He promised to
sober up and take care of me so
many times I lost count. He would
call and tell me he was on his way
to pick me up; and then never show.
Id wait for hours. Eventually I
stopped taking his calls.
ARTHUR
Arent you curious about where he
is now?
OLIVIA
Hes a selfish asshole and a liar.
Next time I see him, I will kill
him.
ARTHUR
No forgive and forget?
OLIVIA
Never. Anyone who is selfish enough
to endanger or abandon their child
doesnt deserve to live.
ARTHUR
OK - So, why didnt your aunt and
uncle adopt you?
OLIVIA
Uncle is local law enforcement.
Auntie is a full time law
professor. They just didnt have
time.
ARTHUR
Bummer.
OLIVIA
Uncle taught me to shoot straight.
ARTHUR
Imagine that?
OLIVIA
I never miss my target. What about
your parents?
ARTHUR
The King and Queen of de-nile?
50.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
Gotcha.
ARTHUR
Nothing ever really happened in our
house. Everything was forgotten, or
retold the way my mother wished it
had been.
OLIVIA
Thats fairly normal.
ARTHUR
It was brutal because after a while
I would forget about important
things just because they were too
painful.
OLIVIA
Let's talk about something else.
ARTHUR
How did you get your job at the
coffee house?
OLIVIA
I slept with the owner.
ARTHUR
Oh my.
OLIVIA
Its OK. Shes not the jealous
type.
ARTHUR
I see.
OLIVIA
C'mon - dinner is ready.
Olivia leads Arthur to the kitchen where she has set a
beautiful dinner for two. The plates, like the furniture, are
mismatched, but work together.
Olivia invites Arthur to sit while she goes to prepare his
dinner plate.
OLIVIA (O.S.)(CONTD)
I like your new shirt.
51.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Thanks.
OLIVIA
It's a shame about the old one.
ARTHUR
What do you mean?
OLIVIA
The one that got ruined at Joes.
Flash of pain in Arthur's head.
ARTHUR
Oh yea, I forgot about that.
Olivia brings the dinner plates to the table and sits down to
eat.
OLIVIA
You forgot about it? You sure were
pissed. I would have been too if
some dumbass dropped food in my
lap.
ARTHUR
It's no big thing.
OLIVIA
(looking directly at him)
I want you to stay tonight.
ARTHUR
I'd love to.
INT. OLIVIAS BEDROOM - NIGHT
Arthur and Olivias first sexual encounter is a slow and
cautious experience.
Arthur is tentative and insecure; Olivia is patient and
reassuring.
As their love making continues, Arthur becomes more
confident, and Olivia more demanding. The two eventually
climax simultaneously.
52.
5/26/14
EXT. HIGHWAY 101 NORTH - DAY
OWEN CARTER (fifties) rides his motorcycle north on the 101
freeway heading towards Santa Barbara. He wears a leather
Clean and Sober bikers club vest.
INT. OLIVIA'S APARTMENT - DAY
Arthur wakes up with a jolt in Olivia's bed. He looks around
quickly gathering his bearings.
He breathes deeply, smelling breakfast. He hears Olivia
singing in the kitchen.
Arthur looks around for his pants and pulls them on. He then
walks, shirtless, from the bedroom into the kitchen.
Olivia is making breakfast naked.
OLIVIA
Good morning handsome.
ARTHUR
Whoa - hey - you - ah. Do you
always make breakfast like this?
OLIVIA
You didn't have a problem with my
body last night.
ARTHUR
Oh course not. I am just not used
to surprises this early in the
morning. That's all.
OLIVIA
Sit down and have some coffee. I'll
go get a robe.
ARTHUR
Don't do that for me.
OLIVIA
I'm making bacon.
ARTHUR
Oh, right. Yes - I get it.
Olivia goes to the bedroom for her robe.
53.
5/26/14
Arthur sits alone at the kitchen table drinking coffee. There
are cinnamon rolls on the table. He picks one and begins to
eat it.
Olivia returns to the kitchen and prepares a plate for
Arthur.
OLIVIA
How did you sleep?
ARTHUR
I can honestly say that was the
best night's sleep I have had in a
very long time. Thanks.
OLIVIA
At your service. So, what's on your
calendar for today?
ARTHUR
Oh, not too much. I was thinking a
nice long walk through the park
with my beautiful new girlfriend.
Maybe a stop at the ice cream stand
for a cone. Then a perfect dinner
for two in a secluded, quiet
restaurant.
OLIVIA
That sounds amazing. I can't wait.
Olivia brings Arthur a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and
country potatoes.
ARTHUR
You are an amazing cook.
OLIVIA
Thank you. I love to work in the
kitchen.
ARTHUR
And the bedroom.
OLIVIA
That too. Next time I want to make
you dinner at your house.
ARTHUR
Ooh, well. You know. Actually I'm
doing some remodeling. It's a mess.
Maybe when it's all finished.
54.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
I'll go get ready.
Olivia leaves Arthur alone in the kitchen.
He sits for a quiet moment finishing his breakfast. He starts
to cry. He tires to hold back the tears.
Olivia returns wearing blue jeans, a concert T-shirt
(braless) and leather jacket.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Hey, are you OK?
ARTHUR
Yes. I am fine.
OLIVIA
What's bothering you?
ARTHUR
Nothing. It's just that - I don't
want to screw this up.
OLIVIA
Don't worry. I am a very patient
and forgiving person. Just promise
never to lie to me.
ARTHUR
I promise.
EXT. OCEAN PARK - DAY
Arthur and Olivia stroll together along a walking path
overlooking the ocean. They sit down on a bench in a quiet
and secluded area. They watch the waves.
OLIVIA
What do you hope for?
ARTHUR
Oh, I dont know. A happy life.
OLIVIA
Have you had a happy life Arthur?
ARTHUR
No. Not really.
55.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
(looking at the ocean)
The same tempest water that can
overwhelm a giant ship can gently,
over many years, polish the stones
on the shores.
ARTHUR
Thats beautiful.
OLIVIA
Our lives are full of beautifully
broken things.
ARTHUR
Broken?
OLIVIA
Just think of all the things that
are wrong - the people who get
killed for no reason.
ARTHUR
Or good reason.
OLIVIA
And yet here we are. Doesnt seem
to make sense.
ARTHUR
Funny, the way it is.
OLIVIA
I dont think its funny. I think
its tragic and beautiful.
ARTHUR
How can it be both?
OLIVIA
If it wasnt for all the crap that
happened to you in your life, you
wouldnt be sitting here with me
right now.
ARTHUR
Thats true.
Arthur is quiet. He massages his temples.
OLIVIA
Another headache?
56.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Yea.
OLIVIA
Come on -
Arthur and Olivia approach a street vendor selling ice cream.
Arthur buys Olivia an ice cream cone.
As they stroll a seagull swoops down and eats the ice cream
out of Olivias cone.
ARTHUR
Look out.
OLIVIA
I guess he was hungry.
ARTHUR
Stupid bird.
OLIVIA
Its fine.
Arthur and Olivia laugh together.
They arrive at a park with swings.
ARTHUR
May I?
OLIVIA
Please do.
Olivia sits on the swing and Arthur pushes her.
INT. WHARF RESTUARANT - NIGHT
Arthur and Olivia share a meal of crab legs. They sit wearing
bibs and looking at the crab with anticipation. He lifts up a
crab leg and the crab cracker and examines them.
ARTHUR
Um, Im not sure how...
OLIVIA
Its easy - just put the leg into
the cracker and squeeze.
57.
5/26/14
Arthur squeezes too hard. The shell suddenly breaks and he is
sprayed in the face with warm crab water. Arthur smiles and
laughs through the embarrassment. Olivia laughs with him.
INT. HALLWAY OF OLIVIAS APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT
Arthur passionately kisses Olivia good night at the door of
her apartment.
Olivia opens the door, walks in, and closes the door leaving
Arthur alone in the hallway.
Arthur turns to find Nancy standing there watching him.
ARTHUR
Whoa, hey there. What are you
NANCY
We have unfinished business.
EXT. ARTHUR'S HOUSE - NIGHT
The hood of Arthurs car is up as he tries to start it.
Nancy waits in the passenger seat with the window rolled
down.
He starts the car and climbs into the driver seat.
ARTHUR
Where to?
EXT. NEARBY FOREST - NIGHT
Arthur and Nancy stand by the trunk of his car.
NANCY
Open the trunk.
ARTHUR
Nancy, what's going on here.
NANCY
Just do it.
Arthur opens the trunk. Stan's body is there.
ARTHUR
What the hell?
58.
5/26/14
NANCY
Get him out of there.
ARTHUR
No. We need to call Detective
Daniels.
NANCY
Thats the last thing you want to
do.
ARTHUR
Why?
NANCY
Just get him out of the trunk.
Arthur pulls the body out of the trunk and carries it over
his shoulder. Nancy guides him to a prepared grave site.
NANCY (CONTD)
Dump him.
Arthur dumps the body into the hole. Nancy grabs a shovel and
starts to fill the hole in with dirt.
ARTHUR
What happened to him?
FLASHBACK TO:
INT. COLLECTIONS OFFICE - DAY
Nancy is working in her cubicle when Stanley stops by.
STANLEY
Hey Nancy.
NANCY
Stan.
Nancy watches Arthur work at his cubicle and does not
completely pay attention to Stanley.
STANLEY
I know you got a thing for Arthur,
but I just dont think hes into
you.
NANCY
I dont understand men.
59.
5/26/14
STANLEY
How about we go out and get a bite
to eat after work? Ill share all
of my most intimate male secrets
with you.
EXT. NANCYS APARTMENT DOOR - NIGHT
Nancy and Stanley approach the door to her apartment.
STANLEY
So now I finally fit into my 32s.
NANCY
Great.
STANLEY
I hit the gym nearly every day
after work.
NANCY
Really?
STANLEY
You should come with me sometime. I
exercise with lots of women. Where
do you workout?
NANCY
I dont.
STANLEY
Wow, maybe you should try it - I
mean, not that you need to. You
look really fit.
NANCY
Thanks.
STANLEY
Can I come in?
NANCY
I guess so - for a little while.
INT. NANCYS APARTMENT
Nancy opens the door and Stanley immediately moves inside and
locks the door behind them.
60.
5/26/14
NANCY
What are you doing Stanley?
STANLEY
You invited me in.
NANCY
I was just being polite.
STANLEY
I paid for dinner.
NANCY
You asked me out.
STANLEY
You said yes.
NANCY
I think you should go now.
STANLEY
Oh, I will, but I have to come
first.
NANCY
You are disgusting, get out.
Stanley lunges at Nancy as she screams.
He tears at her dress with one hand as he holds her mouth
with the other hand.
Nancy fights hard at first but eventually gives in to his
superior strength. Her eyes lose focus and a single tear
falls from her cheek.
INT. COLLECTIONS OFFICE - DAY
Nancy approaches Arthurs cubicle.
NANCY
Arthur, I was wondering if you
could help me out with a ride
somewhere tonight.
ARTHUR
Anything for you my dear.
61.
5/26/14
INT. ARTHURS CAR - NIGHT
Arthur and Nancy sit together as they drive. Both look
straight ahead and do not talk to each other. He is smiling;
she is not.
They pull in to an ocean park parking lot.
Stanley sits alone on a park bench.
NANCY
Stay in the car.
ARTHUR
Ill give you two your privacy.
NANCY
And pop the trunk.
Nancy opens the door and steps out of the vehicle.
EXT. OCEAN PARK PARKING LOT - NIGHT
Nancy moves around and to the back of the vehicle and removes
an object from the trunk. She leaves the trunk open.
Nancy walks up to Stanley sitting alone on the bench.
STANLEY
Hey sexy how are you?
Without responding or losing her stride Nancy swings a large
shovel and smashes Stanley in the head knocking him out.
Arthur sees Nancy attack Stanley. He jumps out of the car and
runs over to her.
ARTHUR
What are you doing? You could have
killed him!
Nancy takes the shovel and smashes it down hard on Stanleys
head as he is lying on the ground.
NANCY
That should do it. Put him in the
trunk.
Arthurs head starts to pound in pain.
62.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Nancy, we have to call the police.
Arthur grabs his head.
Nancy threatens him with the shovel.
NANCY
I said, put him in the trunk.
ARTHUR
OK - OK. Just give me a second.
NANCY
Whats wrong with you?
ARTHUR
My head is splitting.
NANCY
Im going to split your head wide
open if you dont put that body in
the trunk of your car.
ARTHUR
Hold on - I got it.
Arthur picks up Stanleys limp body and places him into the
trunk. The suspension droops with the weight of the body.
Arthur collapses onto the ground, disoriented. He leans up
against the back bumper.
BACK TO PRESENT.
INT. ARTHURS CAR - NIGHT
Nancy drives Arthurs car back to his house.
NANCY
Weve had five dates.
ARTHUR
What?
NANCY
Each night was a total disaster.
The next day you totally forgot
everything. Every time.
63.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
I dont understand.
NANCY
At first I thought you were just
being cruel - but then I realized
that you seriously didnt remember.
ARTHUR
I am so sorry.
NANCY
After Stanley, I used you to help
me because I knew that you would
forget. Then I followed you to make
sure that you didnt turn me in - I
disabled your car.
ARTHUR
You were stalking me?
NANCY
You never seem to remember the bad
things that happen to you. Or the
bad things that you do Arthur.
ARTHUR
What bad things?
NANCY
Just forget about it - Ive taken
care of everything.
ARTHUR
I have to tell Detective Daniels.
NANCY
If I so much as see you look in
that cops direction youll end up
in your own hole right next to
Stanley. Understand?
INT. ARTHURS BEDROOM - NIGHT
Arthur lays on his bed wide awake. His tosses and turns.
His yellow pad is visible on the night stand, untouched.
64.
5/26/14
INT. COLLECTIONS OFFICE - DAY
Nancy approaches Arthur's cubicle remaining unseen. She
listens to Arthur finishing a customer service call.
ARTHUR
Yes sir. That's what happened. I
know it sounds crazy. I couldn't
believe it myself.
(pause to listen)
Are there any other collections
needs I can help you with today?
Well then, have a great day.
Nancy walks in front of Arthurs cubicle.
NANCY
How was your weekend Arthur?
ARTHUR
Unbelievable.
NANCY
Did you have a good time with
Olivia?
ARTHUR
The best!
NANCY
That's wonderful news.
ARTHUR
Are you ready for a latte?
NANCY
Not today Arthur. But thanks for
asking.
ARTHUR
All-righty then. See you later.
Nancy turns to leave.
Arthur watches her go. He gets up, leaves his cubicle, and
exits.
EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY
Arthur stops to make a phone call.
65.
5/26/14
Nancy watches him from a distance, unseen by Arthur.
ARTHUR
(on phone)
Id like to make an appointment to
see Dr. Nuttered.
Daniels approaches Arthur.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
OK. Thanks.
Arthur ends the call.
DANIELS
I want to ask you about your car.
Nancy quickly ducks behind a tree.
Arthur looks around for Nancy.
ARTHUR
That old thing? I don't even think
it will start.
The two walk down the sidewalk.
Nancy returns to the office.
DANIELS
Did you take it out last night?
ARTHUR
Ah - I spent the day with Olivia
and then came home late - I walked.
DANIELS
I stopped by your house earlier. It
looks like the car is parked in a
different spot on your driveway.
ARTHUR
Really?
DANIELS
There's something else too. When I
visited the other day I noticed
that it looked like there was
something heavy in the trunk. Today
it looks lighter.
66.
5/26/14
Arthur and Daniels stop in front of the coffee house. They
pause.
Daniels opens the door. The two enter the building.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
ARTHUR
I don't know what to tell you.
DANIELS
When are you available for me to
take a look around your house?
Olivia is working behind the counter. She makes eye contact
with Arthur and smiles; he smiles back.
ARTHUR
I have a doctors appointment
tomorrow, so, Ill be home early.
DANIELS
Ill stop by in the evening.
ARTHUR
Ill be ready.
Daniels turns and leaves.
Arthur steps up to order.
OLIVIA
Good morning handsome.
ARTHUR
Please make it a double today.
OLIVIA
Did I wear you out?
ARTHUR
You sure did.
OLIVIA
Whats with Dick Tracy?
ARTHUR
He is investigating a missing
persons case at work.
67.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
That's creepy.
ARTHUR
The detective will find him.
OLIVIA
I've got tomorrow off, so I want to
make dinner at your house.
ARTHUR
Ah, yea. OK - That should be fine.
OLIVIA
We are going to have a WILD night!
ARTHUR
Cant wait!
OLIVIA
OK. I'll see you tomorrow at five.
Olivia leans in and gives Arthur a passionate kiss. Arthur,
smiling, leaves the coffee house.
Olivia watches him go.
INT. DOCTORS OFFICE - TUESDAY
Arthur sits talking to Doctor Nuttered.
DR. NUTTERED
Memory loss?
ARTHUR
Yea.
DR. NUTTERED
Because a woman told you that you
dont remember dating her?
ARTHUR
Thats right.
DR. NUTTERED
Maybe she wasnt that memorable.
Sorry. I just mean that many people
will sometimes purposefully forget
uncomfortable experiences.
68.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Is that normal?
DR. NUTTERED
Of course - unless youve had some
traumatic event in your past that
causes you to take this to an
extreme. Have you had any traumatic
events in your life Arthur?
ARTHUR
Not that I can remember.
DR. NUTTERED
Exactly.
ARTHUR
So you think Im fine.
DR. NUTTERED
As far as I can tell. How is the
pain medication working?
ARTHUR
So far so good - Actually the
headaches are starting to clear up,
a little.
DR. NUTTERED
Thats great.
Doctor Nuttered writes a new prescription on his pad and
hands it to Arthur.
DR. NUTTERED (CONTD)
Heres a refill. Dont over do it.
Doctor Nuttered hands Arthur the prescription paper.
EXT. OCEAN PARK - DAY
Olivia sits alone on their park bench. She sketches in the
new sketch. She draws an uncanny picture of Arthur smiling
back at her.
She looks through the other sketches to evaluate her work.
There are drawings of her week with Arthur at the ocean park
sitting on the bench, eating an ice cream cone, Arthur
pushing her on the swing, and of she and Arthur having sex.
69.
5/26/14
Someone approaches Olivia and blocks out the sunlight shining
on her drawings. Olivia looks up to discover Nancy standing
there.
NANCY
Dont get too attached sister.
INT. ARTHUR'S HOUSE - DAY
Arthur returns home from his doctors appointment.
He cleans the kitchen: wipes down the counter, puts away the
clean dishes, and sweeps the floor.
He moves to the freezer. He looks quizzically as he pulls out
bags full of freezer burnt old meat and small body parts.
Arthur quickly places the kitchen trash bags into the large
city trash can outside. He also dumps his desk trash can full
of waded up pieces of yellow paper.
EXT. ARTHURS HOUSE - DAY
He pulls the trash can to the curb in just enough time to
catch the trash truck.
He steps back and watches as the truck dumps his trash.
He waves to the trash man and then drags the can back up the
driveway.
INT. ARTHURS HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Arthur pushes opens the door to the guest bathroom. He is
immediately nauseated by the smell.
He pulls back the shower curtain to reveal the decomposing
body of the waiter. Arthur screams.
Arthurs phone rings; he jumps in shock. He finds his phone
and checks the caller ID: its Daniels. Arthur answer and
tries to steady his voice.
ARTHUR
Detective! How are you today?
DANIELS
I'm want to confirm our appointment
for this evening.
70.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
What time was that again?
DANIELS
Ill be there around 5:30.
ARTHUR
Great - That's great. See you soon.
Arthur hangs up his phone, throws it down, and runs back to
the kitchen. He gets trash bags and a pair of dish gloves.
He returns to the bathroom and puts on the dish gloves. He
tries to shove the body into trash bags, but the limbs are
stiff with rigor mortise.
He races back into the kitchen and grabs a knife. He returns
to the bathroom and cuts an arm off of the body.
He runs back to the kitchen and tries to shove the arm down
the running garbage disposal. This works at first, but then
the garbage disposal jams.
He checks the time: 4:55. Arthur runs back to the bathroom
and lifts the rest of the body out of the tub. He struggles
to run into the backyard.
EXT. ARTHUR'S BACKYARD - CONTINUOUS
The neighbor's dogs bark at the commotion.
Arthur dumps the body and drags it to the back fence.
He looks through to see two huge mastiff dogs. The yard is
unkept and overgrown with tall weeds.
He picks the body back up and throws it and the detached arm
over the fence. The hungry dogs get right to work.
He hears his front door bell ring and he races back into the
house.
INT. ARTHUR'S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Arthur strips off the dish gloves and runs to the door.
He opens the door revealing Olivia with two bags of
groceries.
She is dressed beautifully; wearing a French maid's apron.
71.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
Hello handsome.
ARTHUR
Wow! You're here already? Great!
That's great! Come on in.
OLIVIA
This is an amazing place.
ARTHUR
Thanks.
Arthur opens the door wider. Harry the cat immediately comes
to greet Olivia.
OLIVIA
Oh, this must be Harry?
Olivia sets her bags down to greet the cat. Harry obliges his
guest.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
He is a lover. Just like his poppa.
ARTHUR
That's my boy.
OLIVIA
OK. Which way to the kitchen?
Arthur leads Olivia to the kitchen. He is careful to wipe
down the sink one more time before she gets started.
Olivia places her bags on the counter and cautiously assesses
the workspace.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Not bad - Not bad at all. I can
definitely work here.
ARTHUR
Well, the garbage disposal is
jammed so -
OLIVIA
No biggie. Do you have a broom?
ARTHUR
Ah, sure. Hold on.
Arthur leaves to find a broom.
72.
5/26/14
Olivia continues to inspect the immaculate kitchen.
Arthur returns with the shovel.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
Will this work?
OLIVIA
Sure. Watch this.
Olivia takes the top of the shovel handle and shoves it down
the garbage disposal. She turns it twice.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Now try it.
Arthur turns on the switch. It works perfectly.
ARTHUR
Nice.
OLIVIA
I have to do this at work all the
time. Now get out of here.
Olivia sets the shovel aside in the kitchen.
ARTHUR
I am going to go take a shower if
that's OK.
OLIVIA
Sure it is. I want you fresh and
clean for desert.
ARTHUR
Oh my - OK. I'll be quick - In the
shower that is.
OLIVIA
Have fun handsome.
Arthur exits.
Olivia hears the shower water running. She begins to sing.
There is a knock at the front door.
Olivia moves to the front door. She opens it to reveal
Daniels.
73.
5/26/14
DANIELS
I'm here to talk with Arthur.
OLIVIA
He didnt tell me I was cooking for
three.
DANIELS
Ill be brief.
OLIVIA
Come on in. He is in the shower.
DANIELS
May I ask you some questions while
I wait?
OLIVIA
Sure.
Olivia and Daniels move to the kitchen.
INT. ARTHUR'S MASTER BATHROOM - CONTINUOUS
Arthur is soaped up in the shower. He continues to sing where
Olivia left off.
He repeats his routine of pulling back the shower curtain and
smiling at himself in the mirror.
On the third pull Nancy appears standing in his bathroom
holding a knife.
Nancy stabs at Arthur but misses. She stabs repeatedly making
small wounds, but missing the kill shot. Blood flows off of
Arthur and down the drain.
Arthur grabs her wrist and holds the knife away from him.
They wrestle out of the shower and onto the floor.
INT. ARTHUR'S KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS
DANIELS
Have you noticed any strange
behavior from Arthur?
OLIVIA
Describe strange.
74.
5/26/14
DANIELS
Odd. Out of the ordinary. Anything
that makes you wonder about his
mental state - his authenticity.
OLIVIA
Authenticity? No. Not at all. He
stood me up for our first date.
Other than that, he's been a golden
boy.
DANIELS
Do you know if he rode the bus that
night?
OLIVIA
He didn't say.
DANIELS
Has Arthur ever mentioned knowing a
man named Ralph White?
OLIVIA
Never.
DANIELS
Did you know that the waiter that
served you at Joe's on Victoria has
gone missing?
OLIVIA
He was a shitty waiter. Dropped my
desert on Arthur's lap.
DANIELS
Was Arthur upset?
OLIVIA
Wouldn't you be?
DANIELS
Do you mind if I look around a bit?
OLIVIA
Make yourself at home.
Daniels leaves the kitchen and heads into the living room.
His cell phone rings and he answers the call.
DANIELS
Daniels.
75.
5/26/14
CANDICE (O.S.)
Ive got your history on Arthur
Graham.
DANIELS
Go ahead.
CANDICE
There isnt a happy ending.
INT. ARTHUR'S MASTER BATHROOM - CONTINUOUS
Arthur and Nancy wrestle around on the floor. Nancy tries to
land the killer blow on Arthur.
ARTHUR
What are you doing?
NANCY
I'm trying to kill you Arthur.
ARTHUR
Why?
NANCY
Because you told that cop about
Stanley.
ARTHUR
What about Stanley?
NANCY
Don't play Amnesia Arthur on me
now. I saw the two of you together.
ARTHUR
What are you talking about?
NANCY
I'll tell that cop about your
parents Arthur.
INT. ARTHURS HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
A loud bump is heard coming from the master bathroom. Daniels
looks in the direction of the sound.

DANIELS

Daniels ends the call.
INT. ARTHURS HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Arthur pushes Nancy off of him and runs naked out of the
bathroom and into the living room.
ARTHUR
Detective!
Nancy runs out of the bathroom towards Arthur with the knife
in her hand.
Daniels instinctively reaches for his .22 caliber service
revolver and shoots Nancy, stopping her progress.
Olivia screams from the kitchen.
Nancy falls to the floor right in front of Arthur, impaling
herself with the knife.
Olivia runs out of the kitchen into the living room.
The three look at each other in shock and disbelief.
ARTHUR (CONTD)
She killed Stanley.
DANIELS
Nancy killed Stanley?
ARTHUR
He hurt her. I helped her bury the
body.
OLIVIA
That psycho was stalking Arthur.
DANIELS
What do you mean?
OLIVIA
She tried to break us up. I showed
her wrong.
CANDICE (O.S.) (CONT'D)
77.
5/26/14
DANIELS
Arthur, I found your credit card on
the front lawn.
OLIVIA
Nancy probably picked it up at the
restaurant after Arthur left it on
the table - then dropped it out
there one night while she was
snooping around.
ARTHUR
You have my credit card?
Arthur grabs a pillow off the couch to cover himself.
DANIELS
I took it as evidence. You'll have
to show me where the body is
located. Why didn't you tell me all
this before?
OLIVIA
I told you why! She was stalking
him. He was scared for his life.
She's a fucking psycho!
ARTHUR
What she said.
DANIELS
I'll call the coroner.
OLIVIA
I love you Arthur.
ARTHUR
I love you too.
Olivia goes to help Arthur as Daniels makes the call.

taken from the rape victims.
OLIVIA
Case closed?
DANIELS
I just need you to sign off on your
sworn statement Arthur, and we will
be all finished.
ARTHUR
Ah - OK. Right here? OK.
Arthur signs his name as Olivia looks on. He turns to Olivia
and the two share a smile.
DANIELS
I am sorry for the way things ended
at your home.
ARTHUR
It's no problem Detective. I'm just
glad that justice was done.
DANIELS
This could have been avoided if
Nancy had reported the rape.
OLIVIA
And re-live that torture over and
over again in court? No way. She
may have got Arthur wrong, but she
was right about Stanley.
DANIELS
Indeed. Well, that's it. You both
have my number. Call or text me if
you ever need anything.
OLIVIA
Thank you Detective, for
everything.
DANIELS
Just doing my job.
OLIVIA
Come to the Coffee House anytime
for a latte, on me.
DANIELS (CONT'D)
79.
5/26/14
DANIELS
Thanks. I need a moment to talk to
Arthur alone, if you wouldnt mind.
OLIVIA
Sure, not a problem.
Olivia gets up from the desk and exits the office.
DANIELS
How are the headaches?
ARTHUR
Gone. Its amazing.
DANIELS
Thats great. Look, Arthur, I had
to do a background check on you.
ARTHUR
OK.
DANIELS
I know about your family.
ARTHUR
Oh - Yea. I tried to forget about
that.
DANIELS
Im very sorry.
ARTHUR
That was a long time ago.
DANIELS
I didnt say anything to Olivia.
Arthur looks out through the glass window and sees Olivia
talking casually to Lieutenant Rodgers. She gives him a hug.
ARTHUR
I appreciate that.
DANIELS
Sometimes, when people in your
situation experience traumatic
events like this, later in life it
has a way of sparking old memories
and effecting behavior.
80.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Im fine Detective.
DANIELS
Some wounds never heal. Please call
me anytime, day or night, if you
are feeling strange, even in the
slightest way.
ARTHUR
I can do that.
DANIELS
Im here to help you Arthur.
ARTHUR
May I go?
DANIELS
Sure. Good luck.
EXT. POLICE STATION - DAY
Arthur and Olivia walk down the street away from the police
station.
OLIVIA
What do you want to do tonight?
ARTHUR
I don't know. What do you want to
do tonight?
OLIVIA
Something fun.
ARTHUR
Like
OLIVIA
I don't know. You think of
something.
ARTHUR
OK. Bowling?
OLIVIA
Too noisy.
ARTHUR
Movies?
81.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
Too expensive.
ARTHUR
Walk on the beach?
OLIVIA
Too cold.
ARTHUR
What do you want me to say?
OLIVIA
I want you to think of something
fun.
ARTHUR
I just gave you three ideas.
OLIVIA
Not fun enough.
ARTHUR
Oh, come on.
OLIVIA
Don't get upset.
ARTHUR
You always do this to me.
OLIVIA
Do what to you?
ARTHUR
Give me an impossible task to
complete. Why don't you just say
what you want to do instead of
making me figure it out?
OLIVIA
Because I don't know.
ARTHUR
You obviously know what you don't
want to do!
OLIVIA
Relax.
ARTHUR
Fine. I'll call you later on. OK?
82.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
Oh - well - OK. I guess - See you
later then.
Arthur turns around and walks in the opposite direction
leaving Olivia alone on the sidewalk.
Olivia watches him go.

hears dogs barking and voices outside his back window.
He gets up from the couch and moves towards the sliding door.
EXT. ARTHURS HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

backyard. He hears his neighbor's shock and surprise.
Arthur jumps as his phone vibrates with a new text message.

at my place at 4. <3 Olivia.
Arthur sends the following text in reply: K-CU@4.
INT. OLIVIA'S APARTMENT - DAY
The remnants of another meal are on the kitchen table.
Arthur and Olivia sit on the couch sipping wine.
OLIVIA
Arthur, I want to talk about us.
ARTHUR
Us?
OLIVIA
Yes.
ARTHUR
What about us?
83.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
Well, it's just that, you seem to
be so distant lately.
ARTHUR
I've been under a lot of stress.
OLIVIA
I know - I know. But I miss the fun
and spontaneous Arthur.
ARTHUR
I'm right here.
OLIVIA
C'mon Arthur, don't make this
harder than it has to be.
ARTHUR
Wait - are you breaking up with me?
OLIVIA
Let's just say we are taking a
break. For a few days is all.
ARTHUR
A break?
OLIVIA
Yea.
ARTHUR
A break where you dump me?
OLIVIA
I'm not dumping you. I just think
we need a little time apart - It
will be a growing experience.
ARTHUR
We can stay together and grow too.
OLIVIA
Look - Arthur. All that shit with
Nutjob Nancy kinda freaked me out.
ARTHUR
Thats over now.
OLIVIA
So, I think this is a good time for
us to pause.
84.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
I don't want to pause.
OLIVIA
I do. For a few days.
ARTHUR
Just like that?
OLIVIA
For now - yes. Please just give me
the space I am asking for.
ARTHUR
Olivia, I love you. Please don't do
this to me.
OLIVIA
Arthur, I need you to respect my
feelings right now. I don't want to
hurt you.
Arthur gets up to leave the apartment.
ARTHUR
You better hope I never hurt you.
OLIVIA
I just need some space. That's all.
ARTHUR
Space? Fine. Have your space -
bitch.
OLIVIA
Please don't get so upset Arthur.
Youre scaring me.
Arthur leaves the apartment roughly.
Olivia picks up her phone and sends Daniels the following
text: broke up with Arthur - he's very upset. Afraid he may
hurt himself. Pls check on him.
INT. HALLWAY OF OLIVIAS APARTMENT BUILDING - DAY
Owen walks up to Olivias apartment door and knocks. He
waits. He knocks again.
Olivia opens the door.
85.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
Arthur, Im glad you - Owen?
OWEN
Hello Olivia.
OLIVIA
What the hell are you doing here?
OWEN
I wanted to see you.
OLIVIA
No - not here - not now.
OWEN
I know its been a long time, but -
OLIVIA
A long time? Really? I dont want
you in my life.
OWEN
Well Im here now.
OLIVIA
If you want to see me, come to my
work. Never come back here again.
Olivia slams the door shut.
INT. COURT HOUSE - DAY
Daniels sits in the courthouse (adjacent to the police
station) hallway outside a meeting room. He receives Olivias
text message as he waits.
The doors to the meeting room open and two lawyers along with
Bobby Daniels, dressed in his prison jumpsuit, exit the
meeting room.
The second lawyer stops in front of Daniels, makes eye
contact with him, and shakes his head. He leaves Daniels
sitting alone.
Candice approaches Daniels. She produces an evidence bag with
a cell phone covered in dry blood.
CANDICE
This was recovered from the missing
bus drivers coach.
86.
5/26/14
DANIELS
OK.
CANDICE
It was beat up pretty badly but I
eventually got the sim card out.
DANIELS
Who does it belong to?
CANDICE
Arthur Graham.
EXT. OCEAN PARK BENCH - NIGHT
Arthur sits alone on the park bench overlooking the ocean.
The homeless Old Woman from the bus appears pushing a
shopping cart.
OLD WOMAN
What's the matter sonny? Having a
bad night?
ARTHUR
Go away.
OLD WOMAN
I know you. Rode next to you on the
bus.
ARTHUR
What are you talking about?
OLD WOMAN
I saw you beat the driver bloody
with that fancy talking phone.
Arthur winces with renewed headache pain.
OLD WOMAN (CONTD)
Then your sister showed up and
tossed her body in a dumpster.
ARTHUR
I dont have a sister.
OLD WOMAN
But then the garbage truck came, so
no one will ever know.
87.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
Except you.
OLD WOMAN
I saw what you did to old Ralph
too. Some nights I stay behind that
bus stop across from your place.
Arthur searches his pockets for his medication.
OLD WOMAN (CONTD)
I still cant figure out what your
problem was with that handsome
young man who delivered your dinner
-
Arthurs grabs his temples.
OLD WOMAN (CONTD)
Your sister showed up then too.
ARTHUR
Shes not my sister.
OLD WOMAN
Well she sure loves you like a
brother - always cleaning up after
your messes.
Arthur reaches into his pocket, pulls out his medication
bottle, pours out a few more pills, pops them into his mouth,
and swallows.
OLD WOMAN (CONTD)
And why do you keep taking those
pills? You got a headache or
something? You should try fish oil,
its full of Omega 3s. Id buy some
myself, but I aint got no money so
- Look, mister, I wont tell -
Arthurs eyes are full of tears. He stands up gently.
The Old Woman looks around but sees no one nearby.
He takes a glass bottle from the woman's cart, swings and
breaks it on the side of her head. He uses the shattered
bottle to slash her throat. She bleeds heavily and collapses.
Sobbing, he picks up her body and places it in the cart. He
pushes the cart down to a park pond and tosses her in. He
waits while she sinks into the water.
88.
5/26/14
INT. ARTHUR'S HOUSE - NIGHT
The front door opens and Arthur walks into a dark house. He
trips over Harry and the cat screams in pain. He stumbles
around then turns on the light. He sits down on the couch.
Harry jumps up to sit on his lap. He pets Harry and starts to
cry more.
INSERT: Arthur RIPS a large number of note pages, WADS them
all up, and TOSSES them into the trash.
The scene rewinds further back.
INT. ARTHURS HOUSE - DAY
Arthur is busy cleaning his house. He wears headphones as he
listens to music.
Arthurs phone vibrates with a new text message. He smiles as
he reads it, then returns the phone to his pocket without
responding to the message.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
Daniels enters the Coffee House and is greeted by Olivia
behind the counter.
OLIVIA
Detective! Come in for that latte I
promised you?
DANIELS
Yes, thank you. That would be
great.
OLIVIA
Have you seen Arthur today?
DANIELS
No. I wanted to talk to you first.
OLIVIA
He hasn't returned any of my calls
or texts all morning.
DANIELS
Arthurs phone - has he had it a
long time?
89.
5/26/14
OLIVIA
No. Its new.
DANIELS
What happened to the old one?
OLIVIA
He lost it.
Olivia hands a coffee to Daniels.
DANIELS
Thanks.
OLIVIA
Please let me know how things go
with Arthur.
DANIELS
I will.
EXT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
Detective Daniels phone rings as he exits the Coffee House.
DANIELS
Daniels.
LIEUTENANT (O.S.)
We got a call last night about
bones found in a backyard.
DANIELS
OK.
LIEUTENANT (O.S.)
I didnt think much of it until I
double checked the address today -
it is the house immediately behind
Arthur Grahams.
DANIELS
I'm on my way.
Daniels quickly moves to his unmarked car. He reaches for the
door when his phone rings a second time.
DANIELS (CONTD)
Daniels.
90.
5/26/14
LIEUTENANT (O.S.)
Change of assignment.
Daniels climbs into his car and quickly pulls away.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

pulls out Arthur's black T-shirt. She grabs her phone and
sends Arthur the following text: Pls come 2 coffee house. I
have something 4u.
INT. ARTHURS HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Arthur cleans his guest bathroom. His phone vibrates. He
reads the message. He responds: b there soon.
Arthur closes the mirror to the medicine cabinet. The
reflection shows Harry the cat hanging from the shower
curtain rod by a noose made with a cell phone charger.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Olivia receives and reads Arthurs text message. She smiles.
She taps a new text message to Daniels.
EXT. OCEAN PARK - DAY
Daniels watches as the body of the homeless Old Woman is
pulled out of the pond.
An uniformed police officer pushes her shopping cart over to
him.
Daniels searches around the cart and finds a paper coffee
cup. He sees Olivia's contact information written on it. He
places it into an evidence bag. His phone rings.
DANIELS
Daniels.
LIEUTENANT (O.S.)
We've got a positive ID on the
remains found behind Arthur
Graham's place.
DANIELS
The waiter, right?
91.
5/26/14
Daniels ends the call. He notices that there is an unread
text message from Olivia: Arthur is coming 2C me. He runs to
his car, climbs in, starts it, and speeds away.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
Arthur enters the Coffee House. There are no customers in
line.
Olivia meets him in the lobby. The two sit down at a table.
ARTHUR
So whats up?
OLIVIA
I wanted to return your black T-
shirt.
Olivia hands the black T-shirt to Arthur.
ARTHUR
Oh - ah - OK. Thanks.
OLIVIA
Why didn't you return any of my
calls or texts earlier today?
ARTHUR
(without malice)
I was giving you some space.
OLIVIA
Yea, about that. I really am sorry
for the way that came out last
night. I don't really want to break
up with you.
ARTHUR
Break up? Who said anything about
breaking up?
OLIVIA
I did, last night. After dinner. We
had a fight.
ARTHUR
A fight? Us?
OLIVIA
Yea. You were really pissed when
you left my apartment.
92.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
That's weird.
OLIVIA
Arthur, are you feeling OK?
ARTHUR
Sure.
OLIVIA
Last night you were very upset.
Today you act like nothing
happened.
ARTHUR
Nothing did happen.
OLIVIA
Yes, it did. Arthur. Tell me you
are not serious right now.
Owen opens the Coffee House door and walks in.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Hold on, I have to help this
customer.
INT. POLICE CAR - DAY
Daniels races to the Coffee House. His phone rings. He checks
the caller ID; it is Candice. He answers the call.
DANIELS
Daniels.
CANDICE
I got a friend in Lincoln to read
Arthur Grahams psych report over
the phone. Turns out his mother
died in a house fire.
DANIELS
OK.
CANDICE
The official cause of the fire was
a cigarette dropped on the
furniture. But Arthur told his
psychiatrist a little more -
FLASHBACK TO:
93.
5/26/14
INT. ARTHURS PARENTS HOUSE - DAY
A gray and feeble Caroline sits on a worn, dusty, overstuffed
chair in the living room. Her hair is long and unkept. She is
drowsy and somewhat delusional. She holds a lit cigarette.
18 year old Arthur is sweeping the floor. His travel bag is
packed and sitting by the front door.
CAROLINE
I forbid you to go. If you do, I
will tell everyone what you did to
your father.
ARTHUR
Momma...
CAROLINE
Whos going to protect me when
youre gone Arthur?
ARTHUR
Youll be fine Momma. There will be
someone here to check on you
everyday.
CAROLINE
If you leave me here to die you
will suffer for the rest of your
life.
ARTHUR
Im only going away to school.
CAROLINE
Kill me Arthur. Kill me just like
you killed your father!
ARTHUR
LEAVE ME ALONE!
Arthur grabs Carolines shoulders and shakes them knocking
the burning cigarette onto the chair which immediately begins
to burn.
She screams. He backs away.
Her hair catches fire. She is quickly engulfed in flames. The
fire spreads to the couch and the curtains.
Arthur watches her burn for a moment. He then turns, grabs
his bag, and runs out the front door leaving the house.
94.
5/26/14
BACK TO PRESENT.
INT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
Olivia returns to her post behind the counter.
OLIVIA
What can I get started for -
OWEN
Is this a bad time?
OLIVIA
Ah, yea. Look, Im right in the
middle of something. If you want to
talk youll have to wait around
awhile.
OWEN
Thats fine.
Olivia pours him a cup of coffee.
Owen takes his coffee and sits down at a table in the coffee
shop.
Olivia returns to Arthur.
ARTHUR
Whos that?
OLIVIA
Nobody. So you don't remember that
I broke up with you?
ARTHUR
No - I - It's just that -
OLIVIA
Arthur - did Nancy really kill that
fucking rapist?
ARTHUR
Yes.
OLIVIA
What about that dumbshit waiter?
Because Daniels asked me about him.
Some old man and a bus driver too.
95.
5/26/14
ARTHUR
And a homeless woman.
OLIVIA
What the hell Arthur? Are you a
Goddamned serial killer? Have you
gone all Charles fucking Manson?
I'm calling Detective Daniels.
ARTHUR
No, please don't do that.
OLIVIA
You need help -
ARTHUR
You can help me.
OLIVIA
- from a doctor.
ARTHUR
The doctor said I was fine.
OLIVIA
Youre not fine Arthur.
ARTHUR
He gave me more medication.
OLIVIA
This is bigger than a headache.
Olivia moves towards the front door.
Arthur gets there first and blocks her way.
Owen and the other customers in the shop start to notice
their argument, but no one intercedes.
ARTHUR
Olivia, please, dont leave.
She turns and runs towards the kitchen.
Arthur pursues her.
She grabs a George Foreman Grill, wheels around, and clocks
Arthur in the head knocking him down.
Owen hears the loud THUNK.
96.
5/26/14
She races back to the front door.
Daniels meets her at the door as he quickly enters the
building.
OLIVIA
Detective!
DANIELS
I found this with a woman who was
killed last night.
Daniels pulls out the evidence bag with Arthur's coffee cup.
OLIVIA
Oh shit!
Arthur appears from the kitchen.
Daniels pulls his .22 caliber and aims it at Arthur.
A female customer screams, distracting Daniels.
DANIELS
Ladies and gentlemen, I am a Santa
Barbara Police Detective. Please
quietly exit the building as
quickly as possible.
Arthur rushes and tackles Daniels.
Daniels drops the gun.
Olivia tires to grab the gun, but the men fight too close to
where it landed on the floor for her to recover it.
Owen pulls Arthur off of Daniels.
Arthur and Owen grapple while Daniels helps the remaining
customers exit the building.
Arthur bites down hard on Owens arm drawing blood.
OWEN
Mother Fucker!
Owen releases Arthur. He grabs a metal cream dispenser and
smashes it against Owens face knocking him cold. Cream
explodes all over the floor.
Olivia recovers the gun and points it at Arthur. Daniels
confronts him.
97.
5/26/14
DANIELS
Arthur, did you go to the park last
night?
Arthur grabs his temples.
OLIVIA
Answer him Arthur.
ARTHUR
She knew about Suzie.
DANIELS
Your father was a sick man.
ARTHUR
I had to protect her.
DANIELS
You did the you could.
OLIVIA
That bitch Nancy used him. None of
this would have happened if she had
left him alone.
DANIELS
You may be right.
ARTHUR
Then why didnt you stop her?
Arthur lunges towards Daniels.
OLIVIA
Arthur, No!
Olivia reacts by firing the gun.
Arthur tackles Daniels to the floor. He sits on Daniels arms
pining him down.
ARTHUR
Why didnt you do your job?
Arthur reaches back and hits the detective with his closed
fist breaking his nose.
Daniels screams in pain.
Arthur jumps off of the detective and slowly moves toward
Olivia.
98.
5/26/14
Shaking, she points the gun at him.
OLIVIA
You promised not to lie to me.
Daniels slowly stands up behind Arthur.
Owen makes a groggy noise and stands up also.
Olivia, Daniels, and Owen surround Arthur.
OWEN
Give it up dude. Its three against
one. My daughter has a gun pointed
at your head.
OLIVIA
Yea, about that.
Olivia turns to Owen, aims and fires the gun. She hits him in
the chest, killing him. Daniels moves to help Owen.
Arthur falls to his knees in front of Olivia.
ARTHUR
Ive done some terrible, awful
things Olivia. I am so sorry. This
isnt the way I want it to be.
Arthur pulls out his yellow pad from his back pocket and
scans through his notes.
OLIVIA
What are you doing?
Arthur collects all of the pages. He TEARS them from the pad.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Arthur - you are not responsible
for what others do to you.
Arthur WADS them up.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
But you are responsible for what
you do.
Olivia points the gun at Daniels. He turns to her.
OLIVIA (CONTD)
Sorry.
99.
5/26/14
DANIELS
Olivia - NO!
Olivia fires the gun at Daniels head.
The bullet hits him in the right eye and exits out his
temple, knocking him to the ground.
Arthur turns to look at Daniels and Owen laying on the floor
in pools of their own blood.
OLIVIA
Lets get the hell out of here.
Arthur places the yellow papers and the pad back into his
pocket.
Olivia secures the pistol behind her back and helps Arthur
up. She moves towards Owen and takes his keys.
They run together toward the exit.
EXT. COFFEE HOUSE - DAY
Owens motorcycle is parked out front. Arthur jumps on the
back as Olivia fires up the bike. They take off down the
street just as three police cruisers arrive on the scene.
FADE TO BLACK.
