VERTICAL SHAFT UP APPLICATIONS
Vertical shaft-up (W8) applications present a special challenge for washdown duty motors. Any recess in the shaft-end endbell will pool water and increase the risk of water entry past the shaft seal. Stainless Motors, Inc. has developed a complete series of motors with an optimized, tapered endbell and an O-ring sealed rotating shield which together virtually eliminate shaft seal problems in vertical shaft-up applications. As with all Stainless Motors, Inc. motors, they may be ordered with the junction box in the W8 (F1), W5 ( F2) or W11 (F3) location, and the conduit port facing up, down, left or right permitting the cleanest installation.
FREEZER DUTY MOTORS
When t - are present it creates unique conditions and challenges for stainless steel motors. Two possible obstacles include thermal expansion rate of the metals and low temperature elastomer stiffening. Stainless Motors, Inc. has optimized design parameters and materials for these extreme temperature applications. All motors are available as Freezer Duty.
BRAKE MOTORS
For applications requiring power-off torque holding, Stainless Motors, Inc. has integrated a stainless steel housed, spring set brake with our motors. These brake motors feature torque ratings from 6- 124 ft-lb, power off operation, and an optional manual release that resets automatically. Most feature AC coils, eliminating DC rectifiers. All brake leads are brought out to the junction box, allowing single conduit electrical connection, enhancing machine integration and cleanability.

All explosion proof motors have thermostats in the windings which are pilot circuit devices only and must be connected to the magnetic starter circuit or inverter drive to prevent excessive temperatures, possibly under abnormal or stall conditions. These motors are rated temperature code T3B (160C, 320F). WATER COOLED ENERGY RECOVERY MOTORS
Water cooling of the electric motor provides a far more efficient means for the collection and removal of waste heat. If a facility requires hot water, or generates steam, the warm water discharge from a water cooled motor can be used directly and will afford huge energy savings. The stainless steel housing, water jacket and endbells will not rust or impart corrosion debris to the cooling water assuring water chemistry and purity is unchanged. Excess and waste grease is efficiently removed from the bearings and collected in easily accessible reservoirs.
Our Marine series motors are designed for the rigorous salt water environments found aboard ships and yachts. These motors provide the ultimate in reliability and appearance whether mounted on a salt water sprayed deck or within the hot confines of an engine room or bilge. Single phase models feature high efficiency capacitor start, capacitor run design and an electronic starting switch - eliminating the failure prone mechanical switch used on general purpose industrial motors. Common shipboard applications include driving air conditioning recirculation pumps, fuel and oil transfer pumps, high and low pressure water maker pumps and macerator pumps. Rugged high efficiency design ensures reliability and performance while the compact design allows for efficient allocation of space. These motors are available in Three Phase up to 30 Hp and Single Phase up to 5 Hp.

Stainless gearboxes and gearmotors are offered in several designs that cover 95% of applications. All designs are 100% washdown duty with specific emphasis on clean-ability. We accept unusual or custom work and these are made to order. An Applications Engineer will gladly assist you in determining the best motor/reducer combination to suit your particular requirements.
RA - Right Angle Worm Gearmotor are selected when a compact, right angle drive is required and the ratio is between 5:1 and 60:1. Typical applications include positive displacement pump, mixer, and conveyor drives. Efficiency of worm gearmotors diminishes as ratio increases. The reduced efficiency results in increasing heat that must be passed to the surrounding atmosphere. As our gearboxes feature a smooth exterior surface for excellent clean-ability, cooling becomes a limiting factor in worm gearbox capacity. The mechanical capacity will be significantly higher than the thermal capacity for the high ratio worm gearmotors. SB - Spiral Bevel Gearmotors are selected when the output shaft is to be at a right angle to the input shaft and the required ratio is between 1:1 and 4:1. They offer excellent efficiency and can also be furnished with C-face or flange-mount output faces. Typical applications include positive displacement pump drives and tank mounted mixer drives where lower headroom exists. IL - Inline Planetary Gearmotors feature an output shaft that is concentric with the motor input shaft. This makes for a cylindrical, very aesthetic, compact, and cleanable gearmotor. A planetary gearmotor may be supplied as foot mounted (typical for driving positive displacement pumps) or as a C-face or flange-mounted unit, as would be preferred for such applications as tank mounted mixers. Standard ratios are between 3:1 to 25:1, but extremely high ratios (1000:1 or more) are possible as well. SBT - Compound Planetary/Spiral Bevel Gearmotors are a combination of our inline planetary gearbox and a secondary spiral bevel gearbox, housed in a tubular casing. This arrangement yields high efficiency, large hollow bore output shaft capability and excellent overhung load ratings required for such applications as long, heavy mixer shafts. The tubular housing features smooth, easily cleanable surfaces and is often equipped with a flange or C-face mounting. The output shaft of SBT units is at right angles to the motor shaft.
RA - RIGHT ANGLE WORM GEARMOTORS Our right angle worm gear reducers feature hardened and ground worms and aluminum-bronze worm gears for high capacity and long life. Gearboxes are machined and ground to a sanitary #4 finish on all surfaces. Single, double and hollow bore output shafts are available with right-hand, left-hand and vertical assembly options. Larger RA gearboxes with vertical output shafts feature our patent pending positive pressure lubrication system ensuring that all bearings and gears are well lubricated, even at very low rotational speeds. Purity SHC 460 (USDA H1) synthetic lubricant provides exceptional lubrication and extended life performance. All RA units can be fitted with optional flange mounts with either standard C-face or customer specified dimensions.

Spiral Bevel reducers provide high efficiency and quiet operation in low ratios. Spiral bevel gearmotors are built as true gearmotors, with the pinion gear mounted directly on a modified motor shaft. Right-hand, left-hand and vertical assembly options are available.

IL - INLINE PLANETARY GEARMOTORS Efficient and compact, our inline planetary gearmotors feature cast T304 housings with sanitary foot mounts. GMP design is evident in the smooth, cylindrical shape and integral motor interface. All outer surfaces are fully machined and ground for a superior sanitary finish. Custom modifications such as a flange or C-face mounts, or altered shaft dimensions are readily produced to order. High ratio units feature unique compound gearing to produce very low output speeds with a compact reducer.
SBT - COMPOUND PLANETARY/INLINE SPIRAL BEVEL GEARMOTORS Our innovative SBT series of high ratio planetary/spiral-bevel gearmotors provide a compact and highly efficient solution for high ratio, high power applications. The design combines our proven IL planetary series technology with a high capacity spiral bevel gear set in a unique and ultra-cleanable tubular housing. SBT units may be specified with solid or hollow-bore output shafts, and either horizontal or vertical output shaft orientations. All vertical output shaft models feature our patent pending positive pressure lubrication system ensuring that all bearings and gears are well lubricated, even at very low rotational speeds. Purity SHC 460 (USDA H1) synthetic lubricant provides exceptional lubrication and extended life performanc. Made of stainless steel, they are suitable for washdown locations and can be specially made to fit your custom application. Couplings We offer both types of couplings the S-flex or sureflex style and the P- flex or paraflex style. To select the correct coupling, you must determine the proper load rating. This is done by dividing the horsepower of the motor by the RPM of the coupling as shown:
