FIELDS OF STUDY Those who wish to study in Japan as a student at a specialized training college should choose a field of study to major in from (1) to (7) below. TERM OF SCHOLARSHIP 3 Scholarship awards will 5e tena5le for three years fro! 8pril #$%& to March #$%@ including one4year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other su59ects due to 5e proided upon arrial in Japan' <f a scholarship grantee graduates fro! a specialized training college and is ad!itted to a Japanese uniersity as a 9unior transferee, he=she !ay hae the ter! of his=her scholarship eQtended upon successful eQa!ination 5y MEXT proided that he=she has outstanding acade!ic achiee!ent that !eets certain criteria' 4. SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS (%) 8llowance3 Each grantee will 5e proided !onthly with %%1,$$$ yen' 8n additional !onthly stipend of #,$$$ or *,$$$ yen !ay 5e proided to those underta;ing study or research in specially designated regions)' /oweer, the a!ount of allowance will 5e su59ect to change, depending upon the annual 5udget of each year' The scholarship will not 5e paid to a grantee who ta;es a leae of a5sence or is long a5sent fro! his=her specialized training college or the preparatory Japanese4teaching institution' Scholarship will 5e cancelled for a grantee in the following cases' .urther!ore, if scholarship pay!ents were !ade during the period the following cases applied, the grantee !ay 5e ordered to return scholarship pay!ents receied during that period' I <f any of his=her application docu!ents is found to 5e falsely statedJ K <f he=she is in 5reach of his=her pledge !ade to the Minister of MEXTJ L <f he=she is su59ected to disciplinary action such as eQpulsion or re!oal fro! register 5y his=her specialized training college or the preparatory Japanese4teaching institutionJ N <f it 5eco!es definitie that the grantee will not 5e a5le to graduate (or co!plete his=her course) within the standard course ter! 5ecause of his=her poor acade!ic achiee!ent or suspensionJ O <f his=her resident status of 6College Student7 as proided for in "aragraph %4, of 8ppendiQ to the <!!igration Control and Cefugee Cecognition 8ct changes to any other statusJ 4 P <f he=she is proided with another scholarship (eQcept for a scholarship designated for research eQpenses)J or R <f he=she proceeds to a higher leel of education without receiing approal for an eQtension of the ter! of the scholarship'

Japan shall 5e 5orne 5y the grantee' )ote *3 <f a grantee stays in Japan and gets a 9o5 after the scholarship period has ended, he=she will not 5e paid trael eQpenses to return ho!e as the te!porary return' (*) School .ees3 .ees for entrance eQa!inations, !atriculation, and tuition at a specialized training college will 5e paid 5y the Japanese goern!ent' 5. EDUCATION AT SPECIALIZED TRAINING COLLEGE (%) "reparatory Education prior to "lace!ent at specialized Training College3 6 Each grantee will 5e enrolled at a preparatory school designated 5y MEXT where for a one4year intensie course in the Japanese language and other su59ects necessary for preparation for proceeding to specialized training colleges' The preparatory course lasts for one year !ainly consisting of education in Japanese 8ffairs with a focus on Japanese4language teaching' 8 grantee will not 5e allowed to proceed to specialized training college if he=she is deter!ined incapa5le of co!pleting the prescri5ed course at the preparatory school ' (/e=she will 5e re:uired to return ho!e upon such deter!ination') (#) Entrance into Specialized Training College3 8 grantee who has co!pleted the prescri5ed course at the preparatory school will go on to a college of technology designated 5y MEXT' /is=her college will 5e decided 5y MEXT upon consultation with the college concerned' )o o59ection 5y the grantee against the decision will 5e allowed' (*) Graduation3 8 grantee of this scholarship will 5e enrolled into a postsecondary course of a specialized training college that re:uires upper secondary school education for entrance eligi5ility and receie professional education for two years prior to graduation' 8 graduated grantee will 5e awarded a diplo!a' (,) Aanguage used in Education3 8ll classes will 5e gien in the Japanese language' (&) Change of Ma9or .ield3 8 grantee will not 5e per!itted in principle to change his=her !a9or field of study' 7.
