OIL & GAS SIMULATION
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a simulation tool that solves uid ow, heat transfer, and other related phenomenon
(mass transfer, combustion and reaction, and multiphase ows) using numerical equations. CFD is used as a "Virtual Experiment"
which allows the assessment of full three dimensional processes and equipment on the computer prior to any CAPEX
investment.
Our core strength is the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics in solving engineering design problems and providing
optimised and trustworthy solutions to our clients. Our approach to applying CFD services can be divided into:
APPLIED CFD
Typical objectives for design assessment include design validation, suitable for engineering
companies with an approved design that requires validation. This approach can be done via
single one-of studies or through multiple case and what-if scenarios, and doesnt include
any redesign.
Design Assesment
& Recommendation
The main objective for full optimisation studies is to simply optimise the design, suitable for
engineering companies which are in the midst of the design stage and intends to optimise
the design in terms of performance, time and cost. Our approach can be summarised based
on the following sequence.

Separators are one of the key equipment for oil and gas facilities and
involve complex ow structures involving multiphase ows of oil, water
and gas. 3D CFD simulation provides a powerful tool to predict and
design separators for proof of concept, separation performance
quantication for process guarantees, capacity identication and
debottlenecking.

3D CFD Simulation can be used to model the are combustion and detailed
radiation intensities in 3-dimensional space for processing facilities, which
can be highly afected by the detailed interaction between cross winds and
localised turbulent structures. Under snuf-out conditions, CFD can
accurately predict the gas dispersion behaviour and ammability regions
under various ambient conditions. This is particularly important for gas with
high H

content, which may prove hazardous to personnel.
Flare Radiation Assessment & Snuf-out Conditions
3D CFD simulation can be used to model the complex interaction
between multiple thermal and momentum sources on board an
ofshore facility. These can be exhaust stacks from power
generators, air coolers and ares. The air ventilation can also be
assessed, and be used to see suitable working conditions for
personnel and inlet conditions for other equipment. Of particular
importance is the helicopter landing conditions and the
requirements of CAP437, which CFD can predict accurately.

Thermal Plume Studies and Ventilation
Assessment
Detailed consequence analyses of re and explosion scenarios for
hydrocarbon facilities are important in order to cost efectively provide
safety measures on site. Detailed 3D re simulation capture the important
interaction between the combustion process and the complex geometries
that the processing plant represents. This allows accurate prediction of re
dimensions and radiation intensities, which is vital for optimum design of re
protection, as well as escape and evacuation. 3D simulation of gas
explosions in the congested areas on these processing facilities accurately
predicts blast overpressures, which are vital in identifying blast wall
requirements and locations.

Vessels containing liquid are used extensively on mobile ofshore
facilities, and are often subjected to 6-degrees of freedom motion due
to the wave loadings. 3D CFD simulation allows the cost efective
prediction of the liquid levels and their displacement within the vessels.
This is important to avoid any false HHLL or LLLL alarms, and to assist
in optimum calming bafe designs.
