Pathways: Glycolysis (EMP), Ethanol Fermentation (ETOH), Lactate Fermentation (LACT), Kreb's
Cycle (TCA), Electron Transport System (ETS), Pentose Phosphate Pathway (PPP), Entner-Doudorof
Pathway (ED) Beta Oxidation of Fatty Acids (Even #,Odd #, Saturated and Unsaturated). This includes
calculations of ATP production, total and specific activity calculations, recognition of pathways from
information given, drawing the structures of intermediates with location of radioactive carbons (no tracing
of radioactive carbons through the Kreb’s Cycle), % of radioactivity in products; % of products that are
radioactive, and % efficiency of pathway calculations, and some multiple choice or true false questions.
1. You may be asked to draw certain structures of all the intermediates in the following pathways-
Glycolysis (EMP), Ethanol Fermentation (ETOH), Lactate Fermentation (LACT), Kreb's Cycle (TCA),
Pentose Phosphate Pathway (PPP), and Entner-Doudorof Pathway (ED) Also be able to label each
carbon atom with the location of the radioactive carbon
2. The following enzymes in the following pathways-Glycolysis (EMP); aldolase and
phosphofructokinase; Kreb's Cycle (TCA) citrate synthetase, Pentose Phosphate Pathway(PPP); glucose-
6-phosphate dehyrogenase; Gluconeogenesis(Glu); three enzymes bypassed in EMP and enzymes that
replace them.
3. Fatty Acid Degradation (Beta-Oxidation)
Fill in the blank questions about pathways similar to the following:
Precursor Product Pathway
It is not the ED, because the end products of ED are pyruvate and 3-PGAld.
