2 ALCOHOL DASHBOARD SENSOR (DETECTION SYSTEM) INTRODUCTION A person is under the influence of alcohol when, as a result of drinking any amount of alcohol, his or her mental or physical faculties are so impaired as it reduce his or her ability to think and act with ordinary care. Our proposal is the new way of preventing drunk drivers and this is with the alcohol detection system by equipping on the vehicle. The alcohol dashboard sensor will be a breath analyser built into the steering wheel. Before starting the vehicle, the drivers breath will be detected and it will appear on the LED screen whether any alcohol was detected. If the alcohol detected is over the limit the car will not start. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision Our vision is to develop a new alcohol detection to introduce to the world. This product is a alcohol dashboard sensor (detection system) to prevent drivers from driving drunk and this will reduce car accidents, highway injuries and vechicular deaths. This will make our world a better place. 3.2 Industry Analysis: Motor Vehicle Technology Industry Industry: Motor Vehicle Technology Industry Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: Low The buying power is low because the automotive vehicle parts avaliable in New Zealand is quite low. Buyer does not have many alternatives. This
3
3 means buyer power is low. (Automotive suppliers NZ Ltd, n.d) Supplier power: High Companies in this type of industry (Motor Vehicle Technology Industry) have a high supplier power because switching cost will be reasonably high and expensive. Threat of new entrants: High The threates of entry barrier for the indsutry is quite high because everything now is done through technology now. Starting up a new techhnology now shouldnt be difficult therefore the threats of new entrants into this industry is relatively high. (Project Management, 2013). Threat of substitutes: Low Education system is one of the substitute for this industry. The Education System provides information on reasons on the conseuqences of driving under the influence of alcohol. The education system is not effective as shown in the high proportion of death rate by drink driving. Therefore the threates of substitute is low in this industry. (The Health Promotion Agency) Rivalry among existing competitors: High The alcohol dashboard sensor (dection system) may sound as if its exclusive, but, many companies out in the indsutry is already thinking of making alcohol detection systems. The Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety, or DADSS, program is a collaborative research partnership
4
4 between the Automotive Coalition for Traffic Safety (ACTS) Thus rivalary among exisiting competitors is high. (National Highway traffic safety administration, n.d) Overall attractiveness of the industry: Though the rivalary among existing competitors is reasonably high but the attractiveness of the industry remains high because the industry will want to be safe, the industry can help reduce the risk of car accidents and vehicular deaths and the reduction of this can help our world become a better place.
3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs The targeted customers for our product (alcohol dashboard sensor (detection system)) will be vehicle drivers who could be under the supervision of the police or anyone or is under the punishment of the court for drink-driving. Demand is expected to be high for our product because it helps reduce risks of car accidents, highway injuries and vehicular deaths. Many studies show that the risk of being involved in a car crash increases as a drivers blood alcohol level increases. (Alcohol, n.d) because consuming alcohol degrades driving performance and affects driving behaviour. (Ministry of Transport, 2013) therefore the alcohol dashboard sensor (detection system) that will be equipped onto the car will take a breath sample of the driver and analyse it for any alcohol detection. The result will help prevent drivers under the influence of alcohol from starting the car. This technology will satisfy the customers needs by disregarding and preventing the chances of reckless driving - driving under the influence. 3.4 The Product and Service The alcohol dashboard sensor (detection system) is an automotive system which will be equipped onto the vehicle and the alcohol dashboard sensor will automatically take a breath sample of the driver and analyses to detect for any alcohol. If any alcohol is detected by the detection system the car will not be able to start. This technology will defeintely
5
5 satsify our customers because it prevents reckless drivers from driving and hence reduce the risk of car accidents and any other bad solutions that may happen. 3.5 Suppliers and Partners Other technology companies can be our suppliers, who can provide us technology devices such as a sensor used to detect and a small LED screen which can be placed in the car to notify the driver whether if any alcohol was detected. If our company is able to do a good search and find the best supplier (good quality and low price) it will help reduce the cost of production and increase the quality of our product. This will meet our strategy of Cost Leadership. 3.6 Strategy: Cost Leadership Our product is a new technology provided to be aimed to the broad market. We are aiming to meet our objective of avoiding drivers to drive under the influence. This could help reduce risk of car accidents. This could be done by using the alcohol dashboard sensor (detection system). Our target cost strategy is to lower prices and even better lower than our competitors. This will attract more customers in demanidng for our product. The overall strategy is therefore Cost Leadership. 3.7 Value Chain Activity: Technology Development The most important value chain activity for this business is Technology Development This vision will help us meet our goals and aims. It will prevent our world from car disasters and prevent people from car accidents and vehicular deaths. These preventions can be prevented by using the automotive alcohol dashboard sensor equipped on the steering wheel of the vehicle. The strategy of cost leadership is also very important. It is to provide better quality of the technology to satisfy our customers needs and expectations. Technology development activity is part of a successful business. 3.8 Business Processes
6
6 3.8.1. THE MONI TORING OF THE SYSTEM PROCESS The alcohol dashboard sensor (detection system) will be placed on the steering wheel of the car. Before the car starts, the system will automatically detect a breath sample to test the drivers alcohol level. It will then be notified on the LED screen the results of the detected test. It will either be no alcohol or alcohol. This means if the level of alcohol is over the limit the LED screen will be appeared as alcohol therefore the car will not start. Excessive tries to start the car will be regarded as an error and a message will be automically sent to the police and also to our business. THE MONITORING OF THE SYSTEM PROCESS:
3.8.2. EXCESSIVE TRIAL PROCESS Our product is involved with the driving under the influence of alcohol therefore we want to make sure that no one is trying to get the car started if they have a maximum limit of alcohol in them. Once there are too many tries on trying to start the vehicle a notice will be sent to the police and to our business. EXCESSIVE TRIAL PROCESS MODEL

3.10. 1. EXCESSI VE TRIAL SYSTEM The excessive trial process will mean that if drivers keep starting their car when alcohol is already detected serval times the police will be notified and police will then be able to follow up. 3.10. 2. CUSTOMER RELATI ONSHI P MANAGEMENT SYSTEM- Our business will be able to get notified every time our product has been used by our customers, whether the outcome is succesful or even if someone is having many fail tries. We can see and check whether our products are working properly instead of using complex feedback processes. 3.10. 3. REPETI TI VE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM- once we can recognize drivers who keeps repeating after serval fails then the police will be notified the police will be able to follow up on this. Our business will alao receive notifications about it. As a automotive alcohol detection system company we can suggest them to change their habits of drink driving.

10 CONCLUSION Overall, we believe our new product the alcohol dashboard sensor (detection system) will be an advatnage to the world. It will be able to make the world a better place because it will help prevent people driving under the influence of alcohol which will reduce the risk of car accidents, highway injuries and vehicular deaths. Though the competition for this product may be relatively high but we still believe this product will have a high increase of demand as it develops. REFERENCES
