Thesis

Digital Image compression using multiwavelets.

Methods for digital image compression have been the subject of much study over the past decade.
Advances in wavelet transforms and quantization methods have produced algorithms capable of
surpassing the existing image compression standards like the Joint Photographic Experts Group
(JPEG) algorithm. For best performance in image compression, wavelet transforms require filters
that combine a number of desirable properties, such as orthogonality and symmetry. Multiwavelets
offer more design options and hence can combine all desirable transform features. Coders like
SPIHT exploit the spatial dependence by partitioning the pixel values into parent-descendent
groups. The SPIHT algorithm performs a rough sorting of pixel values by magnitude and records
their values one bit at a time. It is this separation of bit planes that makes SPIHT an embedded
coder: at any point in the output data stream, only the most significant bits for any given pixel are
transmitted.

LaGrange, IL 60525 USA

Position Programmer

Responsibilities Requirement Analysis for the Locomotive Model Development

Rational Rose Modelling and Coding of various locomotive models
in C++

Project Technical Profile

The client “General Motors” is one of the world's largest builders of diesel-electric locomotives for
all commercial railroad applications: intercity passenger, commuter, freight, switching, industrial
and mining.
The client had a test set-up to test the locomotive controller system for the given order. At present
the locomotive sub systems are simulated by a Unix based system by executing models of
locomotive sub systems. These models were developed in C.
The following is the scope of development
• The Locomotive Model Execution Framework (LMEF) replaces the existing UNIX based
non real-time locomotive subsystem model execution framework with the real-time model
execution framework.
• The Locomotive Models process the inputs received from the Locomotive Model Execution
Framework (LMEF) which instantiates the locomotive sub system models, pass the inputs
to the models, execute models as per execution strategy at real-time. The processed
signals are communicated to the EM2000 Controller via LMEF.
• Re-design and code the existing and new locomotive sub system models. (Approx. 40
models)
• Integrate 40 models in to the model execution framework.

Carried out the following activities:

• Requirement Analysis
• Onsite and Offshore Project Co-ordination
• Design
• Coding
• Maintenance
• Unit and System Testing of various locomotive models like
generator system, brake system etc.
• Implementation
• Environment Set Up
• Status Reporting
• Preparation of Unit and System Test Plan
• Configuration Management and Quality Assurance(at Offshore)
