Gripple : the company
Developed to overcome cumbersome ways of joining fence wires, the original Gripple was
launched in the UK in 1988. Despite being a trail-blazer in the realms of agriculture and viticulture,
we soon realised the potential of the industrial market too. In 1998 we entered the world of
construction with a series of load-rated kits spawned from our rope-grip device, designed
exclusively for hanging mechanical and electrical services, and took the market by storm.
Following our successful launch into the UK industrial market in the late 1990s, we maximised
the products potential by expanding across the globe. In 2000, Gripple Europe was founded,
signied by the construction of a brand new ofce in the beautiful Alsace region of France, and
the following year Gripple Inc. was established just outside Chicago.
As an employee-owned business, everyone at Gripple is a shareholder, giving strength to the
employees and allowing them control over the destiny of their company. We have a working model
in place that were proud of, and we constantly strive to keep the values of our business upheld.
Gripple : solution driven
From the very beginning, weve received numerous accolades for our originality, verve and
enterprise, making us a true multi-award winning company. This is in no small part thanks to our
core values and philosophy, which have remained the same throughout. To us, innovation is so
much more than a simple buzzword; its the foundation of our culture.

Our entire company evolved from a unique idea, something which grew exponentially and allowed
us to invest in our state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. By recognising the importance of
this, were keen to further the expansion of our product range and continue to provide people
with novel solutions to their age-old problems.

Driven by our open-minded approach, we positively thrive on fresh ideas, some of which are
strong enough to warrant a complete division of their own. Our sister company, Loadhog, was
opened in Shefeld in 2003, with the goal of developing transit solutions such as the Loadhog
Lid, the SmartStak frame, and the revolutionary pallet/dolly hybrid, the Pally.

Gripple : quality assured
Quality is everything to Gripple; not just in the products we make and the manufacturing
processes we employ, but in the way we do business. Our compliance to the International
Organisation for Standardization BS EN ISO 9001 at our Shefeld manufacturing plant is the
backbone of our own quality management system, and were proud to have achieved this through
the reputable LRQA.
Gripple : the environment
Ever since the formation of our company, we at Gripple have always appreciated the importance
of sustainability. Much like our stringent Quality procedures, we have an Environmental
Management System in place certied to ISO 14001, and in 2007 we were the proud winners of
the EEF Environmental Award.
As a manufacturing plant, we recognise our responsibility to reduce our impact on the planet.
Over the last few years, we have managed to maximise our energy efciency, decrease electricity
use, reduce landll/incinerated waste, increase recycling, conserve our use of raw materials,
and minimise our packaging. We continuously strive to integrate sustainability into our design
process, which is epitomised by the resounding fact that a Gripple today uses 30% less zinc than
the original design, without compromising its strength or functionality. Wire rope suspensions
also consume, on average 1.2kg less CO
2
per metre than threaded rod

How does a Gripple work?
The principal element of all Gripple hanger assemblies is the Gripple locking fastener.
This inventive mechanism not only secures the wire rope, but also allows the height of the
installation to be adjusted.
What is in a Gripple kit?
A Gripple kit provides you with everything you need to complete the suspension, from the Gripple
fastener itself to the structural xing method.

Can I hang a Gripple at an angle?
The load rating for a Gripple hanger is based on the suspension being hung vertically. If the
wire rope is suspended at an angle, an additional sideways load is applied which reduces the
load capacity of the overall suspension. The nett effect is shown in the table below. No Gripple
hanger should be hung at an angle in excess of 60 from vertical.
Are Gripple kits load rated?
Gripple hangers are available in 5 load rated sizes. Each size is designed to carry a specic
weight range and has a designated safe working load (SWL). The SWL gives a minimum
5:1 safety factor in a vertical plane and applies to all lengths and end xings, unless stated
otherwise.

To calculate the correct size:
Weight per metre x distance between hangers
For example, a weight of 12kg per metre, with
2m between hangers = 24kg, therefore a No.2
should be used (10kg to 45kg SWL range).

Environment: Do not use standard Gripple hangers in saturated humidity or chlorinated atmospheres; only stainless steel
hangers should be considered for installations in these environments in accordance with construction industry guidelines,
as long as efcient ventilation and air exchange systems are in place. Use standard Gripple hangers in dry and air
conditioned environments only.
Loads: Always operate the product within its stated safe working load range.
Lifting: Do not use for lifting, such as in a crane or pulley situation.
Movement: Do not use Gripple hangers to hang moving services, or objects subjected to a sudden, repeated dynamic
movement. Gripple hangers and associated accessories are purpose designed for hanging statically positioned
mechanical, HVAC and electrical services only and should not be used for any other purpose.
Joining: Do not join two lengths together to create a longer assembly by splicing with a Gripple or other device. A Gripple
hanger must comprise of one Gripple fastener and one length of cable (wire rope).
Painting: Do not paint the Gripple fastener. Ensure that the Gripple is in its nal position and protected with the dcor
cover prior to applying any paint to the wire rope assembly. Do not move the Gripple fastener after painting.
Lubrication: Do not apply oil or any other lubricant to the Gripple or any other part of the assembly.
Re-use: Gripple hangers may be adjusted and retted during the course of an original and primary installation. Should the
product be subsequently dismantled at a later date, with the intention of forming a brand new installation, then a aspects of
the product, including the locking mechanism should be inspected for signs of damage and wear and tear, and if detected,
discarded.
Wire fraying: Prior to assembly, remove any frayed or damaged end on the cable/wire rope using a Gripple wire rope
cutter.
Hanging at an angle: Ensure that the load calculation takes into account the effect of side load when hanging at an angle
to vertical. An angle of 60 degrees to vertical should not be exceeded; at this angle the safe working load is reduced by
50%. See page 8 for further guidance on hanging loads at angles, and the effect on the safe working load.
Adjustment: The setting key is a convenient way of disengaging the lock in the Gripple to lengthen the hanger. If the
Gripple has been pushed on too far, it can be brought back using the key, but before the load is applied to the hanger. If
the load has already been applied it should be supported independently to allow the key to be operated safely.
Building codes: Compliance with local codes is the buyers and/or installers responsibility.
Y-ts: When installing Y-t double leg hangers, the nal inclusive angle at the ferrule should not exceed 60 degrees.
Ducting: When installing wrap around hangers on round/spiral ducting or pipes, the nal inclusive angle of the assembly
should not exceed 60 degrees.
Stainless steel: In high corrosion environments, inspect installations periodically for any signs of damage. Any corroded
materials should be replaced as necessary.
Chlorinated atmospheres: In such unstable and unpredictable environments great care should be taken when selecting
all materials. Extensive consultation should be made by the contractor or client with specifying engineers prior to product
selection and installation. Best practice recommends that after completion, installed services and support materials be
inspected at least annually.
Toggles: Toggles should be matched by size to the following hole diameters, for maximum strength.
No.1 - 6mm hole
No.2 - 8mm hole
No.3 - 10mm hole
Studs: Stud kits are supplied with drop-in anchors. For optimum performance, the correct drill sizes and hole depths
should be adhered to, as follows:

Manufacturers recommendations
Failure to comply with these recommendations may result in product malfunction and possible damage to
property or person and will invalidate the Gripple warranty. Gripple products are warranted to conform to
the manufacturers published specications at the time of shipment and to be free from defects in materials
