Description:
This presentation will give a definition of food additives and a brief history. It will also
discuss research that has been done to determine if food additives are a potential hazard
to health. In conclusion we will acknowledge consumer recommendations related to food
additives and also develop an overall conclusion of food additive safety.

Background
ood additives are an important issue to consumers because it is in a ma%ority of products
that we consume on a daily basis. " food additive is technically anything that we add to
our food. &e use additives in our food because it acts as a preservative by preventing
spoilage and food borne illness' to add extra nutritional value' and to improve coloring
and flavor. There is a lot of conflicting information available about food additives( there
is research that supports additives as a cause of cancer and research that says they are safe
and even a possible anti)cancer agent. The !" is responsible for determining additive
safety and uses the most up to date and recent testing before approving the additive for
use. If there is ever direct evidence or suggestions that an additive is unsafe it will be
banned and not put into the food supply.
