Current transformer circuit
Never allow the current transformer (CT) secondary circuit
connected to this equipment to be opened while the primary system
is live. Opening the CT circuit will produce a dangerously high
voltage.

Exposed terminals
Do not touch the terminals of this equipment while the power is on,
as the high voltage generated is dangerous.
Residual voltage
Hazardous voltage can be present in the circuit just after switching
off the power supply. It takes approximately 30 seconds for the
voltage to discharge.
CAUTION
Earth
The earthing terminal of the equipment must be securely earthed.
CAUTION
Operating environment
The equipment must only used within the range of ambient
temperature, humidity and dust detailed in the specification and in an
environment free of abnormal vibration.
Ratings
Before applying AC voltage and current or the power supply to the
equipment, check that they conform to the equipment ratings.

Printed circuit board
Do not attach and remove printed circuit boards when the power to
the equipment is on, as this may cause the equipment to malfunction.
External circuit
When connecting the output contacts of the equipment to an external
circuit, carefully check the supply voltage used in order to prevent
the connected circuit from overheating.
Connection cable
Carefully handle the connection cable without applying excessive
force.
Power supply
If power supply has not been supplied to the relay for two days or
more, then all fault records, event records and disturbance records
and internal clock may be cleared soon after restoring the power.
This is because the back-up RAM may have discharged and may
contain uncertain data.
Modification
Do not modify this equipment, as this may cause the equipment to
malfunction.
Disposal
When disposing of this equipment, do so in a safe manner according
to local regulations.

2. Installation
2.1 Unpacking
This product requires careful handling before installation. Examine
the delivered products to ensure that they have not been damaged
during transport.
After unpacking , check that the items described in 1.1 are included.
2.2 Electrostatic discharge (ESD)
The relay contains components that are sensitive to electrostatic
discharge.
2.3 Storage
If the relays do not have to be installed immediately on reception,
they must be stored with protection against dust and humidity in
their original carton.
2.4 Mounting
The relay can be flush-mounted using two mounting attachment
kits.

2.4.2 Flush Mounting
For flush mounting in a panel cut-out;
Mount the case in the panel cut-out from the front of the panel. ;
See Fig.2.1, 2.2.
Use the mounting attachment kits set ; See Fig.2.3.
Tighten the M4 screws from the attachment kits ; see Fig.2.4.
The allowed range for the fixing screw tightening torque is
1.01.4Nm. Do not tighten the scr ews too tightly.

Fig. 2.5 Outline of attachment kit
This attachment kits can be mounted on a panel thickness of 1
2.5mm when the M4x8 screws included with the kit are used.
When mounted on a panel thickness of 2.5-4.5mm, M4x10 screws
together with some spacing washers should be used.
3. Electrical Connections
The rear of the relay comprises TB1 to TB5 terminals.
TB2 and terminal 1 to 10 of TB4 are for CT or VT input and
power supply with M4 screw contacts.
TB1, TB3, TB5 and terminal 11 to 16 of TB4 are for BI, BO,
IRIG-B and communication with M3 screw contacts.
Each unit is delivered with sufficient M3 or M4 screws to connect
the relay via a suitable size of ring terminals, with a recommended
of two wires of maximum 2.5mm
2
per contact.

3.1 Dimensions
3.1.1 Power supply
The power supply for the relay can be either DC (range 24-48Vdc,
48-110Vdc, 110-250Vdc) or AC (110-220Vac-50/60Hz). The
voltage range is specified on the relay indicator plate on front face.
The power supply should be connected to terminals 13 and 14 of
TB1 and the earthing should be connected to terminal 12 of TB2.
A minimum 1.25mm
2
wire size recommended.
3.1.2 Current inputs
GRE140 has 4 analogue inputs for phase and earth current. These
measuring inputs cover both 1 A and 5 A nominal values. The
current inputs should be connected to terminals 1 to 8 of TB4. A
minimum 2.5 mm
2
wire size recommended.
3.1.3 Voltage inputs
GRE140 has 5 analogue inputs for 3 phase voltage, zero phase
sequence voltage and 1 phase voltage for synchronize function
related to [APPL] setting. The voltage inputs should be connected
to terminals 1 to 8 of TB2 and terminal 9 to 10 of TB4. A
minimum 1.25 mm
2
wire size recommended.
3.1.4 Binary inputs
The relay has 6 / 12 / 18 opto-insulated logic inputs. Each input has
is separately powered with a dc voltage. The binary inputs should
be connected to terminals 13 to 22 of TB5 and terminals 15 to 24
of TB1 and TB3.
A minimum 1.25 mm
2
wire size is recommended.

12

6 F 2 T 0 1 7 8
3.1.5 Binary outputs (Output relays)
The relay has 4 / 10 / 16 programmable output relay. BO1 and
BO2 are applicable for direct CB coil connection. The binary
outputs should be connected to terminal 1 to 10 of TB5 and
terminal 1 to 12 of TB1 and TB3. The terminal 11 - 12 of TB5 is
assigned to the signaling of a relay fault.
A minimum 1.25 mm
2
wire size is recommended.
3.1.6 RS485 port
The communication connection (RS485 port) is assigned to
terminals 21, 23 and 24 of TB5. The total length of twisted pair
wires should not exceed 1200 m.
The transmission wires should be terminated using a 120
resistor at both extreme ends of the cable.
3.2 Cable interference
3.2.1 TB2, TB4 wiring
TB2 and TB4 terminals can be connected from both sides. The
terminal height is 36mm. ;see Fig. 3.1.
Looking from the rear face,
the clearance between the left side of TB2 and right side of TB4
is 55mm. ;see Fig. 3.1.
3.2.2 TB1 , TB3, TB5 wiring
TB1, TB3 and TB5 are single side connected terminal block. The
terminal height is 24mm. ;see Fig. 3.1.
Looking from the rear face, TB1 and TB3 are connected on the
right side and TB5 is connected on the left side.

13

6 F 2 T 0 1 7 8
1) The clearance between the left edge of TB5 and the left edge of
the relay is 17mm, the right edge of TB1 and the right edge of the
relay is 7mm. ;See Fig.3.1.
Be careful to avoid interference with other wiring.

2) The clearance between the left edge of TB2 and the right edge
of TB3 is 18.5mm. ;see Fig. 3.1.
In case cables larger than 3.5mm
2
are to be connected to the TB3,
it is recommended to use a 90ring terminal.
