This assignment is a break from our normal academic standards based lessons. I know many of you are beginning to
think about your futures, so I am giving you some time to explore some of your possibilities. I expect you to take this
assignment seriously. For example your potential future jobs should not be professional athlete, pop singer, and model.
If you must, you may include one of these as your dream job. This is a chance for you to help yourself grow and mature.

Select Career Options:

1. Go to the US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Kids’ Page at

http://www.bls.gov/k12/index.htm.

2. Select one of the conversation balloon links, based on one of your likes.

3. Explore the careers on the site, until you find one career for each of the following categories:
a. Dream Job:

4. For each job, click on the link of the job title on the read the description of the job. Summarize the information you

Select Trade School - College Options:

1. Go to the CollegeBoard’s Student Section at http://www.collegeboard.com/student/index.html?student.

2. Look for the blue heading with the title “My Organizer” on the left side of the screen. Click on “Sign Up” next to
“Create a free account.” Follow the directions to create a new account. If you are seriously considering going to a
four-year college, I highly recommend that you sign up for the Daily SAT Question.
3. Sign in to your account; it will put you at “My Organizer.”

4. In “My Organizer” look for the “My Colleges” tab. Click on it.

5. Under the “To-Do List” click on “Start a new College Search.”

6. On the “College Search” page, find the orange textbox titled “College Matchmaker.” Click on the “Start Here” button.
Follow the directions to colleges that will prepare you to for one of your jobs listed above. This will require you to
follow very specific directions. If you do not know what some of the words mean, ask an adult or look them up in a
search engine, such as Google. You will need to know these terms as a future trade-school or college student. Take
responsibility for your own knowledge. I do not want to hear “It was too hard.” Tip: If it doesn’t work give you any
colleges the first time, retake the search and change your options.

7. Which career are you focusing on for your “College Matchmaker”? ________________________________________

8. When you are finished with the “College Matchmaker” it will give you a list of possible colleges and trade schools. Flip
through them to find one that you like. Click on the links to find information to answer the following questions. If there
is not enough information on the CollegeBoard site, you may just want to go directly to the school’s website.
