SNV Ghana Agriculture April 11, 2014 Three LCBs (Local Capacity Builders), PRUDA (Partnerships for Rural Development Action), ORGIIS (Organisation for Indigenous and Integrated Development), and WIDO (Women Integrated Development Organisation) engaged for 500 PPDs.Three consultants engaged for 578 PPDs to provide technical assistance.
Output Capacity strengthening of three cooperative Unions: Langtaamaale Co-operative Union, Lambussie East Co-operative Union, and BRU-NAVIO Area Co-operative Union with the support of the three LCBs.
Outcomes Production
1,232mt (13,688 bags of 90kg bush-weight) of quality shea nuts mobilised by the three cooperative unions (Langtaamaale, Lambussie East, and BRU-NAVIO) 278.2mt (3092 bags) was mobilised using the GH59,800 pre-finance from AAK (International Shea nut trader, exporter and processor) Additional 953.8mt (10,596 bags of 90kg bush weight) without prefinance was sold on the open market 203 litres of honey produced (sold at GH20 per litre)
Revenue Generated and Financial Services GH1,820,113 mobilized from VSLA(Village Savings and Loans Associations) operations as against a target of GH1,320,000 GH240,433.00 profit grossed from cooperative societies GH868,107 worth of loans disbursed to members which earned a total income/profit of GH116,645 from VSLA loan operations Average benefit per beneficiary was GH88.34/year Two VSLA member based co-op credit unions established
Organization and Governance 341 societies with a total membership of 7606 (189 men and 7,417 women) 74 coop leaders benefit from BDS(Business Development Service) training 7 DVCC(District Value Chain Committee) meetings were held between the buyers and the CUs(Cooperative unions) SNV supported SNG(Shea Network-Ghana) to organise the 5th Annual MSHF , a new substantive board was constituted with private sector involvement
Infrastructural Development 68 beehives and accessories supplied to societies from a beekeeping revolving fund 116 VSLA Kits supplied to the unions through a revolving fund
Impact 7,417 women and 189 men with increased incomes, established market linkages, and improved livelihoods through Value Chain Development.
