LEARNING TO CODE @ L612
Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a
way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.- Bill Gates
I think everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it
teaches you how to think.- Steve Jobs
Computer science is driving job growth and innovation throughout our society. More
than half of projected jobs in STEM fields are in computing occupations; these
occupations dominate help wanted ads; and computer science is one of the hottest
degrees for new college graduates. In fact, only 13 states and the District of Columbia
allow rigorous and engaging computer science courses to satisfy a math or science
requirement for graduation from high school. We are proud to say that Lauderhill 6-12
will offer a new Cybersecurity Program starting Fall 2014
In order to expose our students to cybersecurity Lauderhill 6-12 hosted The Hour of
Code, a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code" and
show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, an innovator.
We have selected tutorials that will provide an introduction into computer science,
these can provide a foundation for virtually any career - every student can benefit from
learning the basics. Exploring these online tutorials is just the first step on a journey to
learn more about how technology works and how to create software applications.
