There are 61 million urban households in India who are
as seriously thinking about home improvement as they
are about better cars, better clothes, better gadgets, etc.
What s more, the current economic time frame
showcases a strong consumption case in favour of goods
and services that create an experience for the user that is
over and above utility particularly with compact houses.
Smaller families are calling for style led value innovation
in the kitchen, bed, bath and beyond. There has never
been a better time to capitalise on the explosion in the
home market.
This industry is only 20 per cent organized with few
branded players supporting the modern retail format,
and rest 80 per cent of the market still stands in the
semi-organised and unorganised category. Ironically,
there are very few home businesses in India who
understand Home Design to the last mile. Most of the
businesses have a very little insight on how good design
can play a key role in building their thought leadership
and position in the industry. There is need for building
specialised retail places and business models that will
lead innovation and renovation for this sector. Whether
it is a warehouse style retail model offering quality
products with extraordinary customer service and best
discounts or an upmarket salon style furniture stores
that pay attention to the affluent consumer and could
well grow through retail franchising models. The timing
is apt for the industry to realise the need for
consolidation of local players and manufacturers of
furniture to either come together as a singular brand or
tie up with existing international conglomerates as
franchisees or licensees.
The conference aims to create thought leadership for the
modernist home market. Going way beyond the thought
of just showcasing modern products for home, the
Home Congress 2012 will be Indias first ever platform
to demonstrate and deliberate on ways to modernize
the business process and distribution of home products
consumption through a design re-thinking process,
based on the experience, mindsets and processes of
user-centered innovation; being need-focused and
solution agnostic, being prototype-driven, and believing
in multi-disciplinary innovation through its people.

The aspiring Indian consumer whose median age is 30 and
above is either focused on owning a residential property
and Building a new home or looking to refurbish their
existing home. Recent studies show that for todays home
buyers lifestyle options are now a higher priority than the
location of Real estate. This means we are operating in a
completely different kind of Home consumption where the
buyer is telling the producer what he wants at Home and
how he wants it to be.
For Home sector, Innovation is a pervasively cross-
functional process. Although this innovation is driven by
the architect, but this competence needs to be supported
by the right product match. In this new age of
consumption, the ability to grow and the ability to do so
profitably will be determined by how innovatively the
design fraternity and the product industry will perform
their roles. The reflection and analysis of what will work
and what will not is necessary and calls for collective
thinking and connect of the Inventor, Manufacturer,
Architects & Interior Designers, Marketing and Retail
partners for sustainable innovation, meeting consumer
interests, deliberate appliance manufacturer perspectives
to improve our abilities to perform in the future. With
preponderance on wining over customers by integrating
sublime service with differentiated offering, the Indian
Home Congress 2012 will be Indias first Home Industry
Forum that will connect architects and Product
companies to explore how they can work together to
create homes that demonstrates the power of design to
advance the goals of businesses and consumers.
It s my greatest pleasure to share with you that I have taken
the cause to a personal level, by agreeing to chair the
Indian Home Congress. As an integral part of the
Conference, I would like to personally invite you to be a
part of this two day event being held at Hotel Claridges,
Surajkund, New Delhi-NCR on 4th & 5th of October 2012.
Let s get together and initiate a dialogue that will help
integrate our strength as an industry, and reach out for
creative solutions to common problems that we all face in
our day to day functioning irrespective of the nature of our

NOMINATION AND EVALUATION
Franchise India presents the country's most prestigious awards in
the Home retail and improvement sector. The awards aim to
recognise and felicitate achievers, innovators and suppliers, who
have contributed significantly towards the excellence in the home
improvement segment.
Each applicant would be required to fill in a Self-Nomination form and send it to us by 25th September, 2012.
Only companies, firms or businesses registered and based in India can apply.
Any organisation/ individual from education/ allied sector can apply. Each applicant can apply for one or
multiple categories, except the ones which states 'Jury Nomination'.
Self- Nomination forms should be sent along with the prescribed fee to Franchise India. The nominees in each
category will be presented to the final jury for determination of winners.
Evaluation would be done in two phases. In select cases, online polling would also be conducted to support
the jury's decision. Jury decision is binding on all applicants.
Information received will be treated confidential and not used for any purpose except for determining the
winners of the awards.
Incomplete questionnaire in any manner will disqualify a participant from participating in the awards.
