LOCATION: The port is located in position Lat. 04_ 26' N, Long. 07_ 09' E.
The Bonny Inshore Terminals are situated on the east bank of the mouth of
the Bonny River, south of Port Harcourt.
Bonny River NGL Terminal (BRT): The terminal is located just north of the
Light Tower at the entrance to the river, in position Lat. 04_ 25' N,
Long. 07_ 08' E, and is operated under a Joint Venture Agreement between
the Nigerian National Petroleum Company and Exxon-Mobil Producing
Nigeria who act as the terminal operator. Propane, butane and pentane plus
are exported from the berth.
Nigeria LNG Limited Terminal (NLNG): The terminal is located between the
Bonny River Terminal and the Shell Crude Oil Terminal. It is operated by
Nigeria NLG Ltd, which is a Joint Venture between the Nigerian National
Petroleum Company, Shell Gas BV, Cleag Limited and Agip International.
The terminal operator is Nigeria LNG Ltd Liquefied natural gas and
condensate are exported from the berth.

PORT LIMITS: The port limits are bounded by the parallels of
Lat. 04_ 23' N and Lat. 04_ 30' N, and by Long. 07_ 00' E and Long. 07_ 15' E.

MAX. SIZE: Max. draft 11.8 m.
Bonny River NGL Terminal (BRT): The terminal can accommodate fully
refrigerated LPG vessels of 35,000 85,000 cu.m. or product carriers of
20,000 120,000 d.w.t.
Nigeria LNG Limited Terminal (NLNG): The terminal can accommodate
LNG vessels of up to 140,000 cu.m. (max. displacement 104,800 tonnes).
The berth is designed for product tankers of 30,000 60,000 d.w.t., but can
accept tankers up to 100,000 d.w.t. when loading a part load (up to
60,000 cu.m.).
DENSITY: 1015 1020.
RESTRICTIONS: The berths work throughout 24 hours.
Night navigation: See Approaches.
APPROACHES: Access to the port is via a dredged channel. The
channels length is 9.5 nautical miles and width 215 m. in the seaward
channel, which then opens to 296 m. at Buoys No. 21 and No. 22, 389 m. at
Buoys No. 23 and No. 24, and 482 m. at Buoys No. 25 and No. 26.
The channel depth is being dredged to 12.5 m. at the beginning of 2002.
There is a dredging program put in place to keep the channel depth to around
12.5 m. Currently none of the buoys are lit, but it is hoped to have them lit
before the end of 2002.
Channel Navigation: Having arrived at the Fairway Buoy, close WSW of
the pilot boarding position, the normal track leads NNE to enter the buoyed
channel between Buoys No. 1 and No. 2, thence through the buoyed channel
to cross the bar. The channel is liable to silting. On clearing the NE end of
the buoyed channel between Buoys No. 19 and No. 20, a small alteration of
course to port is then required to continue up the channel to Buoys No. 25 and
No. 26. Upon clearing these buoys, the vessel may then proceed to the berth
or anchorage.
PILOTAGE: Compulsory. Pilots normally board off Bonny Fairway Buoy,
in position Lat. 04_ 12' 24" N, Long. 07_ 00' 17" E. Arrangements for pilotage
should be made either by the ships Agent at Port Harcourt or by radio direct
to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). Pilotage is available only by day. The
vessels ETA at the Fairway Buoy should be forwarded to the Bonny Harbour
Master through Bonny Signal Station. Under special arrangement, the Pilot
may board within the entrance in the vicinity of Buoy No. 25. The pilot boat
has a green hull and a grey superstructure.
Bonny Pilot Station may be contacted by VHF Channel 14 when near the
Pilot boarding position.
In case of shortage of Pilots at Bonny and Port Harcourt, Masters of
vessels, other than tankers, may be asked to proceed without a Pilot to Bonny.
River Pilots board 3 cables west of Bonny Town.
ANCHORAGES: Vessels anchor off Bonny approximately 3 cables NW
of the signal station in a depth of 20.1 m. Anchorage may also be obtained
off the old entrance of the Cawthorne Channel. There is generally a refreshing
sea breeze here, but vessels should not anchor close to the entrance.
The anchorage for discharging oil products into coastal tankers is located
north of position Lat. 04_ 30' N off Allan Point, under the supervision of a
Bonny River Pilot.
Prohibited Anchorage Areas: Across the channel near the tanker
moorings, within 2.5 cables of the submarine oil pipeline laid across the river
1 nautical mile North of Bonny town, and near the pipeline extending
10 nautical miles NE from the tanker moorings to Opobo Creek.
PRE-ARRIVAL INFORMATION: The Agent in Lagos must be advised
by fax or telex of the vessels Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA).
VHF: For vessels proceeding inshore, it is essential that they contact the
Nigerian Ports Authority on Channel 14.
Vessels should advise the terminal of their ETA prior to arrival:

TUGS: Available for berthing at the Mobil and NLNG Terminals only.
BERTHS: Vessels may berth on either the flood or the ebb tide. The tide
must be stemmed whilst berthing. Vessels may berth from 40 minutes before
High Water (HW) to 40 minutes after HW, and from 40 minutes before Low
Water (LW) to 40 minutes after LW. It is generally preferred to berth port side
alongside.

Vessel: LPG carrier, 78,000 cu.m.
Location: The Bonny River NGL Terminal is located at the mouth of the
Bonny River on the eastern bank, in Finima Creek, in position Lat. 04_ 25' N,
Long. 07_ 08' E.
The terminal is operated under a joint venture agreement between the
National Nigerian Petroleum Corporation and Mobil Producing of Nigeria Ltd.
Charts: BA Chart No. 3286.
Documents: 10 shore personnel and ships Agent boarded the vessel for
Inwards Clearance, which took approximately 2 hours. Gratuities were given.

All crew should be duly signed on Ships Articles
All Seamans Books should be up-to-date with the date crew member
joined the vessel, position onboard and signed by the crew member.
Supernumeraries must have a Seamans Book or valid Nigerian Visa,
otherwise the vessel will be fined.
Approaches: The entrance to the approach channel is located in
approximate position Lat. 04_ 13.1' N, Long. 07_ 00.6' E. The channel is
9.5 nautical miles long and was dredged to depth of 12.5 m. in 1999.
The width of the approach channel varies from 215 m. at the seaward end,
then increasing to width of 296 m. at Buoys No. 21 and 22, to a width of
389 m. at Buoys No. 23 and 24, and a width of 482 m. at Buoys
No. 25 and 26.
Pilotage: The Chief Pilot attended all our vessels berthing/unberthing
operations. He spoke good English and was very competent. Our vessel
berthed starboard side to on a falling tide. Night-time transits through the
channel are not possible due to the channel not being lit, but may be possible
at the discretion of the Chief Pilot.
All the channel buoys are marked as shown on BA Chart No. 3286, except
Buoys No. 19, 21, 23, and 20, 22, 24, which are in a straight line and not
offset as shown on the chart.
Personnel: Vessels are required to provide accommodation and food for the
Pilot and Loading Master.
Anchorage: Vessels anchor outside the approach channel. Our vessel
anchored in position Lat. 04_ 13.9' N, Long. 06_58.1' E, in depth of 14.0 m.
Restrictions: See Pilotage.
Max. Size: The terminal loading berth and facilities have been constructed
to accommodate the following range of vessels:
Fully refrigerated LPG carriers: 35,000 85,000 cu.m.
Condensate tankers: 20,000 120,000 d.w. tonnes.
Max. LOA: 250 m.
Max. sailing draft: 12.2 m.
VHF: Bonny River Terminal operates on Channel 14.
Tugs: Two tugs were in attendance for each berthing operation. The tugs
have twin engines driving a controllable pitch propeller (fixed nozzle) with
40 tons BP, and are fitted with a 150 b.h.p. bow thruster. The forward tug
will proceed ahead of the vessel to keep the channel clear.
Berth: The berth consists of the loading platform, two breasting dolphins,
four mooring dolphins, trestles and catwalks.
The minimum depth along the breasting dolphin is 14.5 m. at Chart Datum.
The maximum sailing draft is 12.2 m., based on the dredged channel depth
of 12.5 m.
Terminal Facilities: The liquid gas mixture from the offshore OSO oil field
is separated at an offshore platform and piped to the terminal, where cracking
into Propane, Butane and Pentane Plus products takes place. The terminal
includes facilities for cracking, refrigeration and storage of LPG/pentane plus
products.

Loading Platform: The platform has five chicksans, a gangway tower, a
crane of SWL 2.0 tons, pipeline access platform, two fire monitor towers and
firefighting system. The platform is equipped with two double mooring hooks
to handle vessels spring lines.
Refrigerated Propane/Butane (liquid or vapour) is loaded via four of the
chicksans, and Pentane Plus via one chicksan at the ambient temperature.
The chicksans are equipped with quick connect/disconnect couplings and
emergency release couplings.
The gangway tower supports a gangway crane for servicing berthed
vessels and watchroom equipped with an emergency shut-down system and
alarms for the monitoring of loading operations.
Each breasting dolphin is equipped with two rubber cell type fenders with
frontal panels that are designed to resist berthing loads from fully laden
120,000 d.w.t. vessels and one mooring point with two hooks to handle the
berthed vessels spring lines.
Each mooring dolphin supports one mooring point with three hooks.
The trestle to the shore is approximately 220 m. long and consists of a
10.7 m. wide pipeway and a 2.4 m. wide roadway.
Catwalks are provided for personnel access to all dolphins.
Other Facilities: The berth also has a remote release system, load cells and
integral capstans on all mooring hooks.
A marine building is equipped with remote release controls for the mooring
hooks, mooring load monitoring system, video monitors to observe the berth,
loading arm emergency disconnect controls, loading pump controls,
anemometer readout and remote controls for the jetty head firefighting
monitors.
Cargo Operations: Chicksan connection commences once the vessels
Inwards Clearance has been completed. Loading proceeded smoothly,
though on this occasion, our vessel had to vacate the berth after
approximately 14 hours to accommodate another loading tanker.
We anchored in the river approximately 4.5 cables WNW of the NLG jetty,
in approximate depth of 14.0 m. Our vessel reberthed after 24 hours to
complete loading.
We loaded a total of 32,000 tonnes of Propane at an average rate of
1,200 tonnes/hr. in three tanks and 12,000 tonnes of Butane at an average
rate of 610 tonnes/hr. in one tank.
Average temperature of Propane was _39.2_C and Butane was _4_C.
Bill of Lading figures were based on the ships figures.

Fuel: Not available.
Gangway/Deck Watchmen: Shore gangway is used.
Repatriation: Crew changes were conducted without any trouble (largely
due to the extreme co-operation of the ships Agents).
Airport: There are regular international flights from Lagos or Port Harcourt.
Piracy: No problem with piracy or other such activities experienced in the
outer anchorage, river or at the berth. A Marine Police boat continuously
patrols the river in the vicinity of the Bonny River NGL Terminal and is
contactable by VHF radio.

LOCATION: 22 km. north of Valencia.
