ARCHITECTURAL LAYERS IN CAD

The following layers are divided into three prototype drawing

files:

1. ARCHPRT-plan
2. ARCHPRT-elev-sec
3. ARCHPRT-civil

Plan contains all the layers required to draw floor plans,

foundation plans, roof plans, and the like. Elev-sec contains all
the layers required to draw elevations, section views, and details.
Civil contains all the layers required to draw site maps, plat maps,
landscape plans, topographic maps, etc.

CONCEPTS BEHIND THE LAYER LIST

• Exterior, interior, roof, multi-story, and existing layers are always

grouped together in ddlmodes.

• Layers can be globally manipulated with filters (i.e. layer filter freeze:
INT- freezes all interior layers; EXT- freezes all exterior layers).

• Layer names are intuitive and allow growth easily.

• Layers for multiple viewports of the same plan on one sheet can be
manipulated with different plan views that need to be shown with
different text and dimensions.

REDUCED SCALE PLOT MODEL SPACE

1 to 48 (residential architecture scale)

EXAMPLE:

A floor plan’s length of a house is 60ft at full scale ( 1:1)

SCALE:

1/4” = 1’ or .25 = 12 or 1 = 48 or percentage = .0208 or factor = 48

.208 x 60ft = 1.2ft x 12” = 14.976 ---------- > use “C” size sheet

LIMITS:

“C” size = 20 x 15.25 ---------- > 20 x 48 = 960” ---------- > 15.25 x 48 = 732”
set limits 960” x 732” for 1/4”=1’

DIMSCALE:

set dimscale at 48

TEXT HEIGHT:

.125 or 1/8” x 48 = 6”

BORDER:

insertion point = 0,0

UNITS:

set units to Architectural and precision to 1/16” or appropriate fraction
