Global warming is the increase of Earths average surface temperature. The cause is
burning fossil fuels giving off carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Topic 1 is going to be
explaining the effects of global warming. Topic 2 is going to talk about how global warming will
be affecting our future generations if not resolved. Topic 3 will be explaining the simple things
you can do to help global warming. We need a solution to solve global warming because the
generations ahead of us are going to be affected by the causes were doing to global warming
now.
The planet is warming, from North Pole to South Pole, and everywhere in between.
Globally, the mercury is already up more than 1 degree Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius), and even
more in sensitive Polar Regions. Some of the effects of rising temperature are happening today.
Hurricanes, tornadoes, and other storms are likely to become stronger in the future because of
global warming.
Signs are appearing all over, and some of them are surprising. The heat is not only
melting glaciers and sea ice;its also shifting precipitation patterns and setting animals on the
move. Ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earths poles. This includes mountain glaciers,
ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Artic sea ice. Sea levels are expected to
rise between 7 and 23 inches (18 and 59 centimeters) by the end of the century, and continued
melting at the poles could add between 4 and 8 inches(10 to 20 centimeters). In addition, a
researcher Bill Fraser has tracked the decline of the Adellie penguins on Antarctica, where their
numbers have fallen from 32,000 breeding pairs to 11,000 in 30 years.
Global warming will be affecting us in the future Global warming has become a major
issue. The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is so far beyond normal that the ice caps
will continue to melt way past 2050 and we are continuing to add more. This will speed up
global warming, giving us less time to prepare for the consequences or to invent new technology
to prevent it.Pollution is increasing, Deforestation is containing, and Forest fires happen more
frequently, Topsoil is disappearing, the permafrost is melting, and Billions of tons of methane &
carbon dioxide are being released from methane hydrates & the permafrost. 50% of all species
since 1492 will be extinct. Polar bears are drowning because of melting polar ice, and many
other habitats are also being destroyed.
Global warming is affecting our ozone layer
1
and without the ozone layer the suns
harmful UV rays hit us then we may get sunburn and develop skin cancer later in life. Global
warming can affect animals and humans a lot and may kill us. There is a hole in the ozone just
above Antarctica right now and that is why Antarctica is melting. Every year it is getting warmer
and warmer; last summer was a record breaking temperature.
This topic will be talking about the simple things you can do to help global warming.
You can replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl).
CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb. This simple switch will save about 300 pounds of
carbon dioxide a year. Another thing you can do is move your thermostat down 2 degrees in
winter and up 2 degrees in summer. Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to
heating and cooling. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this
simple adjustment.

There are a million ways you can help global warming and I am only listing a few of
them. Other things you can do to help global warming: Ride a bike, install a programmable
thermostat, cover your pots while cooking, use less hot water, recycle, use a clothesline to dry
your clothes. Not so many people do these simple things.
We need a solution to solve global warming or else it will be affecting the
generations ahead of us. If we could just do all the simple things to help global warming then
that would slow global warming down.
Here are some interesting facts about global warming. There is more carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere today than at any point in the last 800,000 years. Heat waves caused by global
warming present greater risk of heat-related illness and death, most frequently among patients of
diabetes who are elderly or very young. According to the U.S. Global Change Research Program,
the tempera Global warming puts coral reefs in danger as warmer water increases the possibility
of coral diseases and the rising sea levels makes it more difficult for coral to receive adequate
sunlight. Temperature in the U.S. has increased by 2 degrees in the last 50 years and
precipitation by 5%.With the start of industry in the 1700's, humans began emitting more fossil
fuels from coal, oil, and gas to run our cars, trucks, and factories. By driving a smarter car, you
will not only save on gas, but help prevent global warming in total; the U.S. emits approximately
6 billion tons of carbon dioxide every year. 40% of that comes from power plant emissions
alone. The NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) proposed the Clean Air Act to cut power
plant emissions by 26% in the next 7 years. Since 1870, global sea levels have risen by about 8
inches. Consequences of global warming include drought, severe hurricanes, massive fires and
melting of the polar caps.
At the moment scientists can't really do much to stop global warming so they are
estimating and studying the seas that will no longer have any ice and how much the sea levels
will rise. They have informed the public on what will happen and what can be done to prevent it.
They have however built and in the process of building electric cars which run on solar power
and do not burn any fuel. Scientists are actually doing many things to help. They are making
hybrid cars, they are trying to shoot trillions of mirrors into space and create a sun shade. There
has been a device that uses sunlight to transform carbon dioxide into fuel that replaces the
gasoline used in transportation.
The audience needs to know this because it is a major issue we have in this world and it
will affect the generations ahead of us and possibly in our lifetime. The audience needs to know
what would happen if we cannot help and they need to know the things they can do to help.
