BRENDA B. CORPUZ, Ph. D, is Technical Adviser to the Department of Education Undersecretary for Programs and Projects, particularly K to 12 Curriculum. She has served as consultant to other foreign-funded DepEd projects such as BESRA-School-Based Management and Third Elementary Education Project. She is the Zonal representative for Luzon in the Teacher Education Council and member of the Technical Panel for Teacher Education (CHED). She was past member and later Officer-In-Charge of the Board for Professional Teachers, Professional Regulation Commission. 2
PARALUMAN R. GIRON, Ed. D., is the former Regional Director of the Department of Education of MIMAROPA, then of CALABARZON. She is the Chairperson of the sub-TWG on Grades 1-10 and consultant to the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, DepEd. She participated in a number of international conferences the latest of which are Materials Development in MTB-MLE, Bangkok, 2008; Multiliteracies, Singapore, 2012; and Bridiging Between the Languages,

ROSITA L. NAVARRO, Ph. D., is the Sixth President of Centro Escolar University, the first to rise from the ranks (2001-2007). She received two (2) prestigious awards Outstanding Professional Teacher, awarded in 2000 by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC), and Outstanding Professional in the Field of Teaching, awarded in 1997 by the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA). At present, she is Consultant of Quality Assurance and TQM of St. Jude College of Manila and Cavite, and Chairman of the Philippine Associations of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). 4
LOLITA M. ANDRADA, Ph. D., is the Director IV of the Bureau of Secondary Education, Department of Education. She served as Project Director of the foreign-funded Secondary Education Improvement Project. She introduced a number of innovations in the Bureau of Secondary Education such as Dropout Reduction Program (DORP), School-Initiated Intervention (SII), Effective and Affordable Secondary Education (EASE), Internet-Based Distant Education Program (IDEP), Open High School Program (OPHP) and the 2010 Secondary Education Curriculum. 5

PURITA P. BILBAO, Ed. D., rose from the ranks from being a classroom teacher, to Deaprtment Chair, Associate Dean, Dean of the College of Education and Vice- President for Research, Extension and Training. She holds Bachelors Degree in Education and Doctor of Education in Curriculum Instruction and Evaluation from West Visayas State University and a Doctoral Enrichment in Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA as a US-RP Faculty Scholar. She was awarded as the Outstanding Teacher Educator of Region 6 and was a Metrobank national finalist. She is the Zonal representative for the Visayas in the Teacher Education Council Department of Education and a member of the Technical Panel for Teacher Education, CHED. 6
AVELINA T. LLAGAS, Ed. D., is the former Director, Bureau of Secondary Education, DepEd; Chair, Board for Professional Teachers, PRC, 1999-2002; Chair, Technical Panel for Teacher Education in 2001. After 50 years in the education sector basic education, tech-voc, higher education and later college superintendent, she is still a consultant of the TIP Teacher Education Council, DepEd; TWG Member in K to 12 Curriculum and Teacher Development. She is the recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award in the field of Teaching awarded by the Professional Regulation Commission and a 2012 Silver Pillar Awardee of SEI-DOST. 7
GLORIA G. SALANDANAN, Ph. D., she was President of the Philippine Normal University from 1991-1997; Member of the Board for Professional Teachers,

PRC (1997- August 2002); Chairman (2002-2008). She has been a member of the Technical Panel for Teacher Education, CHED, 2000-2005. Among her awards were: Achievement Award, National Research Council, DOST and Outstanding Professional in Education, U.P. Golden Jubiliee in 2002. She was once president of the Phi-Lambda Theta Philippine Chapter, an international honor society for women educators. 8
MARIA RITA D. LUCAS, Ph. D., is owner-directress of Marys Road Center for Development and Learning, Harrison Plaza, Manila. She is a professor of psychology and education in the undergraduate and graduate levels at Centro Escolar University. She is the President of the Association for Childhood Education International-Philipines (ACEI-Phils.), and also a member of the ACEI- USA and the British Association for Early Childhood Education. She is author of Education textbooks: Facilitating Learning, Child and Adolescent Development and Field Study Manual. She is a former member of the Technical Panel for Early Childhood and Special Education of CHED. 9
PAZ I. LUCIDO, Ph. D., is the President Emeritus of PAFTE. Past Zonal representative for Luzon, Teacher Education Council. She served as a member of the Technical Panel for Teacher Education and Chairman of the Committee on Graduate Teacher Education, She was once the chairperson of NCR Council of Deans of Colleges of Education and the first representative from the academe in the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Council of the Professional Regulation

MILAGROS L. BORABO, Ph. D., is currently the Program Director of the Professional Continuing Education (PACE) of Centro Escolar University. She also served as Head of Human Resource Department and Head of Multimedia Instructional Assistance Department in the same university. She was the former Principal of San Beda College Grade School. She is currently the Executive Secretary of National PAFTE. She is a faculty member of the School of Education and Graduate School of Centro Escolar University. 11
HEIDI GRACE L. BORABO, MA. Ed., is presently a faculty member of the School of Education Liberal Arts Music Social Work at Centro Escolar University. Prior to this, she was a Grade 1 teacher, handling Language and Science at Saint James Academy of Malabon City. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education major in Childhood Education in Centro Escolar University. In 2008, she earned her Master of Arts Degree major in Educational Management. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy major in Curriculum and Supervision in the same university. 12
AMOR Q. DE TORRES, Ph. D., is the Director of the Office for Education Development and Linkages at Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro City. She was the former

Dean of the College of Education and the Graduate School of Xavier University, Ateneo de Cagayan. The University of Sto. Tomas awarded her as The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni (TOTAL) award for Peace Education in 2007. She is the Zonal Representative for Mindanao in Technical Education Council. She attended training in the US as a Fulbright Scholar for Peace, whe she studied with the peace advisers and mentors of the Institute for Conflict Resolution (ICAR) at the George Mason University in Fairtax, Virginia, the Albert Einstein Institute in Massachusetts, the US Peace Institute in Washington DC and the Creative Conflict Resolution in New York City. 13
The book was the fourth modules of the Project WRITE (Writing Resources for Innovative Teacher Education) that was initiated by the authors on August 4, 2006 that culminates in the production and production of workbooks and textbooks, that may help bring teacher education to new heights. 14 The Special Topics in Education aim to align teacher education with the National Competency-Based Teacher Standards 15
16 with the end in view of contributing to the formation of the ideal professional teachers as concretely described in the seven integrated domains of teaching and learning process 17 . The book is the compilation of the eleven (11) modules written by the members of PAFTE all over the country for PAFTE members most especially and also

for non-PAFTE members. 18 The course on Special Topics likewise gives the teacher education student an opportunity to explore topics and issues related to their field of study. 19 Each module is developed with the following parts: things to learn; things to know; things to remember; research taught of the topic; insights gained in the topics; things to do about the topics; and where to get additional information. 20 Every module of the book facilitates student learning by beginning with the end in mind, providing a full discussion of important concepts, drawing out the most essential concepts, expanding and enriching concepts learned by referring to research findings, and the students insights gained and giving the student a list of references for further research and reading. 21
